Chapter 35: Chapter 35: The Large-scale Mission Beyond the Domain

The next day, Chen Jiuge went to the Immortal City beneath Hundred Herbs Peak early in the morning to purchase a good amount of spiritual materials and seasonings. His previous stock was running low, and he had to entertain his Senior Brother Lin En, as well as replenish his supplies.

A robust Red Flame Sheep was roasted to a golden brown, with seasonings made from spiritual materials sprinkled on top, its fragrant aroma assaulting the nostrils.

The Spiritual Fish fished out from the Spiritual Beast Garden was cooked into a pure white fish soup that wonderfully whetted the appetite.

What’s a meal without alcohol?

There was Bai Zhuo Wine from White Burning Immortal City and Immortal Intoxication, buried deep underground for fifty years. One cold, one fiery, there was always one to your liking. If that wasn’t enough, experiencing both ice and fire was also an option.

However, there was a minor mishap when fetching the alcohol because the Immortal Intoxication was missing. Only Yue Meng could pull off such an unreliable stunt. After being subjected to a severe "punishment," the tearfully complaining Yue Meng honestly confessed its accomplice, War Song, and the location of the remaining Immortal Intoxication.

"HAHAHAHA, Junior Brother, your Senior Brother is here." The voice arrived before the person did.

Several months had passed, and Lin En still had the same lazy demeanor as before, but at least he looked much better than the first time they met. Dressed in black, he looked more like a spirited wanderer.

"Junior Brother, we meet again." Following behind Lin En, Lin Jiu popped up nonchalantly.

"Senior Brother Lin Jiu?" Chen Jiuge asked curiously.

After comparing their appearances and recalling that they both shared the surname Lin, he suddenly realized and exclaimed, "Are you two Senior Brothers from the same clan?"

"You kid, I didn’t expect that you were on the last assignment with my cousin. I should have told him to take care of you," Lin En said, with an arm hooked around Lin Jiu’s neck.

"Cousin, Junior Chen doesn’t need my care; his luck is much better than mine." Lin Jiu couldn’t help but feel envious when he thought of Chen Jiuge, who was called the "King of Fish."

"Alright, look at that expression on your face. I’ve always told you to cultivate properly, but instead, you either flirt with Holy Daughters or gamble on fish. It’s simply shameful that you haven’t achieved Returning to Void yet," Lin En said with a look of disdain.

"Senior Brothers, please come inside. Everything’s ready on my end; we can talk while we eat," Chen Jiuge interrupted their chat.

"I can already smell the strong aroma of the alcohol—Bai Zhuo Wine and Immortal Intoxication! Junior Brother, you’re quite generous," Lin Jiu said, unable to wait any longer.

「At the dining table」

A bite of roast sheep, a sip of fish soup, mixed with a gulp of aged wine—truly an Immortal’s leisure.

After tasting a few bites, Lin En took the opportunity to say, "Junior Brother, I can’t reveal too much about this mission; I can only give you an overview. You can decide whether or not to join us after you hear it."

"Senior Brother, please tell me." Chen Jiuge was all ears when it came to missions.

"First of all, this mission is equivalent to the share of two ten-year missions. That is to say, once you finish this mission, you won’t need to go on another one for the next twenty years."

"Secondly, the location of this mission is very far, not within the Myriad Beasts Domain. And of course, there’s no danger. There are no requirements for Cultivation and such."

"Finally, this is a large-scale mission, meaning many people will be involved, and it will not be a short one—it may take a few years. The specific duration will depend on the progress of the task."

Lin En continued, "Right, this could also be considered a garrison mission, but it’s a bit different from usual. It’s somewhat like a development task, yet not as dangerous. The choice is yours, Junior Brother. As for the mission’s details, I’m bound by the Sect’s rules, so I can’t say much more."

Lin En spoke after some deliberation, giving a somewhat vague overview.

Chen Jiuge fell into deep thought. Lin En’s words hadn’t really clarified much. All they indicated was that the mission would likely take several years, involved some danger—but not a lot—and upon completion, would count as twenty years of service.

"Cousin," Lin Jiu raised his cup towards Lin En, "let’s have a couple of drinks and give Junior Brother some time to think." He also winked at Chen Jiuge in the process.

Not long after, Chen Jiuge gave his response, "I’ll go."

Lin En and Lin Jiu were both going. He hadn’t offended them; in fact, their relationship was quite good. They wouldn’t likely set him up, would they?

Having received the answer, Lin En smiled and nodded. "The mission is still a few days away. I’ll register you in our team tomorrow, and then I’ll send you the specific details of the task."

Before leaving, Lin Jiu turned to Chen Jiuge and added, "Trust me, Junior Brother, you won’t be disappointed with this mission."

「The next afternoon」

Chen Jiuge looked at the mission details sent by Lin En, a smile playing on his lips. This really is a good mission.

Between each domain lay a vast, untamed region, unclaimed and belonging to whoever developed it first. Though technically unowned, these regions mostly defaulted to the nearest powerful force.

Unfortunately for the Myriad Beasts Sect, they had almost fully developed the domains around them. Recently, the Sect Master’s eldest disciple, also the Lead Disciple of the Myriad Beasts Sect, had by chance developed an area in the neighboring San Guang Domain.

How could meat that has reached the mouth be spat out? The Myriad Beasts Sect certainly wouldn’t. Unlike the Myriad Beasts Domain, where they were the unchallenged overlord, the San Guang Domain had two powerful Sects, each controlling half, and their combined strength was far less than that of the Myriad Beasts Sect. Having to swallow this loss, they still managed to secure management rights.

This newly developed Immortal City was named Mo Qilin Immortal City, after the Lead Disciple’s Lifebound Spirit Beast, the Mo Qilin. It was to be developed jointly by the Bihai Immortal Sect of the San Guang Domain and the Myriad Beasts Sect. The Myriad Beasts Sect would take sixty percent of the income, while the Bihai Immortal Sect would receive forty percent and be responsible for all city affairs. The Myriad Beasts Sect only needed to send Disciples to supervise.

As for the purpose of Chen Jiuge and the others’ visit, it was to build up the city, which was still a blank slate, teeming with resource opportunities.

Thank you, Senior Brother Lin En, and thank you, Senior Brother Lin Jiu! What a splendid mission this is! Chen Jiuge was very pleased with the assignment. It came just as my resources were running low—could I be a child of destiny too?

However, they say the Lead Disciple completed the development alone. But for a Little Cultivator like myself, it’s still risky. I’d better prepare properly, Chen Jiuge mused.

In terms of Magic Artifacts, since I’ve also trained as a Body Refiner, my needs aren’t great. Elixirs and such... my last trip barely depleted my stores, so I just need to pack some extra. There’s no issue with my Spiritual Beasts, though this time I’ll bring Yue Meng along. Black Eye can stay and look after the Spirit Beast Group.

After making preparations to leave and arranging for the trivial matters at the Spiritual Beast Garden to be handled, the mission time was almost upon him.

「At the Sect’s Main Hall for mission dispatch」

A huge crowd of Cultivators had already gathered on the massive White Jade square. They were all Myriad Beasts Sect Disciples participating in the mission, although not from the same peak.

After Lin En’s guidance, Chen Jiuge found Lin En’s team, which actually consisted of members from Hundred Herbs Peak. There were six people in total, with Lin En as the leader. free\we\bnov(e)(l).com

Lin Jiu, Zhen Yan, and Chen Jiuge were there, along with two others: a man and a woman. The man was Zhen Yan’s brother, Zhen Dan, and the woman was Lin En’s niece, Lin Yanyu. Both, like Chen Jiuge, were at the Nascent Soul Cultivation stage, though they had joined the Sect a few years earlier than him.

"Now that everyone’s here, don’t wander off," Lin En cautioned. "For this mission, we’ll be taking the Sect’s Flying Boat, so there’s no need for us to travel on our own."
