The Master of Beasts -
Chapter 20: Hundred Herbs Peak Wen Ruo
Chapter 20: Chapter 20: Hundred Herbs Peak Wen Ruo
The gentle-faced Senior Sister was named Wen Ruo. Her master was the Third Elder of Hundred Herbs Peak, whose cultivation was very high—at least Chen Jiuge couldn’t sense it. He believed a casual slap from the Third Elder could probably kill him effortlessly.
Feeling the gap in strength, any small restlessness in Chen Jiuge’s heart disappeared without a trace.
"Our Hundred Herbs Peak mainly focuses on cultivating Spiritual Medicine, being primarily Spiritual Plant Masters. By the way, Junior Brother, are you a Spiritual Plant Master?" Wen Ruo suddenly asked.
Chen Jiuge, feeling a bit awkward, touched his nose and said, "I’m not; I’m a Beast Master, but I have a Moon Rabbit that can help handle Spiritual Medicine." He tried to make amends.
Wen Ruo covered her mouth and laughed, "It’s okay not to be a Spiritual Plant Master. After all, we are the Myriad Beasts Sect, are we not? Our very foundation is Guardian Beasts, but a Moon Rabbit is indeed a good helper."
"It seems like Junior Brother is going to be assigned to the guarding team, but that’s also fine. Our Hundred Herbs Peak mainly cultivates Spiritual Medicine, so most of the places we need to guard are Immortal Cities with mixed immortal and mortal populations, or some mortal realms; there are few mines here, and it’s quite nice."
"Moreover, Junior Chen, besides the basic benefits of the Inner Sect, our Hundred Herbs Peak can also claim ten stalks of Fourth Rank Spiritual Medicine annually. The variety is up to personal choice, though special types of Spiritual Medicine might count for more against your annual quota, and this is cumulative." fre ewebno(v)e\l.(c)om
"Let me first take you to the main hall to pick a cave mansion; later, we’ll need the Peak’s Powerful Warriors to help move your external property in, right?" Wen Ruo said with a gentle smile.
The two didn’t traverse by flight; according to Wen Ruo, this was to let Chen Jiuge familiarize himself more with the environment of Hundred Herbs Peak.
Looking at the Second Rank and higher Spirit Grass lining the road, and occasionally spotting Second Rank Spiritual Medicine, Chen Jiuge secretly marveled. Hundred Herbs Peak is so wealthy! Even the roadside is covered with Spirit Grass and Spirit Plants. It seems I made the right choice this time.
Perhaps Chen Jiuge’s gaze attracted Wen Ruo’s attention. She softly said, "Junior Brother, these Spirit Grasses are just ordinary stuff. Those Spirit Plants must be seeds accidentally dropped by some disciples, sprouting on their own. Once you’ve picked your cave mansion, you’ll also have your own Medicine Field, containing some commonly seen High Rank Spiritual Medicine; they are easy to cultivate, require no effort, and are very suitable for you, Junior Brother."
Listening to Wen Ruo’s introduction to Hundred Herbs Peak, the two finally arrived at the main hall of Hundred Herbs Peak.
Looking at the spacious main hall, Chen Jiuge asked in surprise, "Senior Sister, is our Hundred Herbs Peak so sparsely populated?"
Wen Ruo shook her head, "Since Hundred Herbs Peak mainly involves cultivating Spirit Plants, the disciples assigned externally are often stretched thin. Aside from those Spiritual Plant Masters busy in the Medicine Fields, most other disciples are out on tasks, so it seems there are few disciples inside the peak."
"I see."
"Junior Lin, I’m here with a new disciple for registration and to choose a cave mansion," Wen Ruo said to a drowsy young man slumped over the counter.
Junior Lin jolted awake and looked up. Wow, the Third Elder’s Direct Disciple! Just great, caught slacking off... I’m done for!
Looking helplessly at the smiling Wen Ruo, Junior Lin said rather despairingly, "Senior Sister Wen, if I said I was pondering life just now, would you believe me?"
"Slacking off during your duties? Considering a new disciple is joining today, I won’t punish you this time. But if I catch you again, you’ll be off to the Li Fire Mine in the north," Wen Ruo said, tapping the counter.
"Thank you for your grace, Senior Sister! This must be the new Junior Brother, right? What’s your name? I’m Lin En. Let me introduce you to a good cave mansion," Lin En said, grinning broadly and eagerly pulling Chen Jiuge along.
"Senior Brother Lin, my name is Chen Jiuge," Chen Jiuge said, somewhat bewildered by Lin En’s enthusiasm.
Staring at the remarkably realistic projection of an available cave mansion on Hundred Herbs Peak, Chen Jiuge couldn’t help but marvel. The pinnacle of science is theology, and the pinnacle of theology is also science!
"Junior Brother, which one do you like?" Lin En asked enthusiastically.
"Senior Brother Lin, let’s go with this one. I feel it suits me well; I have a valley outside that houses quite a few Spiritual Beasts," Chen Jiuge said, pointing at a secluded cave mansion near the lake.
"That cave mansion is indeed nice, just a bit isolated. But if you want to keep Spiritual Beasts, this place is really good. Later on, you can just buy a few High Rank Array Plates," Lin En commented.
"Have you made your decision, Junior Chen? Leave your Communication Stone. I need to make a trip over there. Let Lin En handle the selection of your cave mansion and the relocation of your Outer Sect properties. Oh, and since you’ve joined Hundred Herbs Peak, you can choose three Cultivation Techniques for free. When you have some time, you can go check them out. As for the location of the Scripture Pavilion, let Lin En familiarize you with it over the next few days," Wen Ruo said, shaking the Communication Stone in her hand.
After exchanging Communication Stones and watching the gentle-looking Senior Sister with an admirable figure leave, Lin En patted his chest with lingering fear and said, "Senior Sister Wen finally left; she scared me to death."
Chen Jiuge curiously asked, "Doesn’t Senior Sister Wen seem very gentle? Is she really that scary?"
"Junior Brother, you don’t understand. Senior Sister Wen is the only Direct Disciple of the Third Elder, and the Third Elder often secludes himself. The Great Elder and Second Elder seem to have gone away because of Sect matters, and the Peak Master is busy studying Spirit Plants and doesn’t manage anything. Essentially, Senior Sister Wen is in charge of Hundred Herbs Peak. Do you think I shouldn’t be afraid?" Lin En explained.
"Then what about the disciples of the Peak Master, Great Elder, and Second Elder? Isn’t Senior Sister Wen just a disciple of the Third Elder? How does it fall on Senior Sister Wen to manage things like this?"
"Ah, that’s of course because Senior Sister Wen is the strongest. With the Eternal Youth Body, a Tribulation Cultivator not even a thousand years old—even among the four Great Peaks, there are few who can defeat Senior Sister Wen. Who would dare to compete?" Lin En said, his eyes filled with admiration.
Chen Jiuge sucked in a sharp breath. "HISS! So fierce!"
"You don’t know the half of it. Senior Sister Wen looks very gentle, but that’s only if you handle your affairs well. If you don’t, then it’s just dreadful," Lin En said, seeming to recall something unpleasant that made him lose the desire to talk further.
"Let’s go take a look at the cave mansion you chose. If there are no issues, I’ll give you the keys. I’ll arrange for the Powerful Warriors to relocate your properties. This should all be timed well. Tomorrow, I’ll take you to see the Scripture Pavilion, Medicine Garden, and some Cultivation Secret Realms and such."
"Oh, by the way, since you’re new to the Sect, you have three months to familiarize yourself with the environment. Only then will tasks be assigned to you. Since you’re a newcomer, the first task will be very simple, so don’t worry," Lin En reassured.
"Thank you, Senior Brother," Chen Jiuge expressed his gratitude.
"It’s no bother at all; aren’t we all fellow disciples in the Sect? By the way, Junior Chen, I saw that your property in the Outer Sect is a valley. Do you breed Spiritual Beasts?" Lin En asked, his eyes narrowing slightly.
Seeing Senior Brother Lin’s suddenly sly expression, Chen Jiuge felt a bit uncomfortable and said, "Yes... that’s right."
"Do you have any of those fiercely combative Spiritual Beasts? Sell one to your Senior Brother," Lin En asked excitedly.
"There might be a few, but they are all at Fourth Rank Cultivation; they wouldn’t be of much use to you, Senior Brother," Chen Jiuge said uncertainly.
"Cultivation level is not a problem; there are plenty of Spirit Plants and such. As long as it fights fiercely or looks very fierce, that’s fine," Lin En said, patting Chen Jiuge on the shoulder.
