Chapter-86

"Sir, do you want me to inform the council head you are here?" The guard asked as soon as Aditya walked to the main meeting room, and he paused.

"No. I was just passing by," he turned before spotting the head maid of the council chambers.

"Head maid, you are responsible for all the old things in the personal cabins, right? Where is my stuff kept?"

"Sir, everything is kept in the old attic room. Do you want me to retrieve something for you?" The head maid bowed in respect.

"No. I will retrieve it myself," Aditya walked to the attic room that the head maid talked about.

He looked around at all the files and shuffled them to find his stuff. It wasn’t long before his gaze fell on the small chest that was neatly placed over all his school files and reports he submitted to prove himself worthy of being in the council.

Aditya pulled out a random cloth from the corner and wiped the chest before looking at its lock. He took out the keys from his pocket and opened the lock.

He looked at the opened door and walked to it before closing it and leaning on it. It would be better if no one saw him like this and didn’t find out about the secret that he had been hiding for a couple of years.

This chest. It not only hides what his personality really is like but also what he has always wanted. He looked at the poems that a particular girl gave him and read through them with a smile on his face.

’The moon shies away when they look into your eyes,

The stars hide behind the clouds when they see your smile.

It’s a wine, a very addictive one.

Your heart is all that I want.

Maybe I am crazy, but I fell for your personality rather than your looks,

I can’t talk about fictional love characters,

I don’t know about my heart or why it beats so fast when it looks at you.

I just know when I spend time with you, and it feels that time stills,’

This was the cheesiest and funniest confession poem he had received from someone, yet it was the most close to his heart.

’Maybe you think I am crazy, Aditya.

I know you’ll choose her over me a million times.

But I feel like my life is playing a game with me,

Or why would my life bring me to you

Even as a friend, I am happy to be with you

This madness, does it scare you?

This madness is what brings me to you; thanks to you

This madness is my fault, but I don’t feel guilty,’

He read the second poem with the same smile on his face.

’Slowly, slowly, you are feeling for me too.

Your heart has started to grow small desires for my madness, no?’

This was the note she had given him as a prank to scare him.

Aditya had told her that he didn’t want to risk their friendship, and that’s why it was better if she stopped talking about her feelings to him.

She had indeed stopped. But then, one day, when they were sitting in the middle of the forest behind their school, and she was lying on the grass, she handed this small note to him.

She had laughed after giving it to him. These were her true feelings, but she hid them nicely between her laughter. She said she was just messing with him at that time.

That girl was so lively even after how no one liked her. He often saw marks on her body, and she used to say that she fell somewhere or hit herself. She used to love to go to the forests, and thus, all those words were white and believable at that time.

He was a fool to never try to pry more into her wounds when she was obviously trying her best to bring a smile to his face and life.

At that time, he was also struggling to be a part of the council. Getting scoldings and beatings from his grandfather whenever he made a mistake was normal for him. And sometimes, he used to run to the forest to find solace.

That’s exactly how they became friends.

He looked at the photo of the girl, who was hiding her face behind her hands. Only a part of her face was visible because of her fingers and bulky hair, but those were more than enough to tell him who she was. And more than that, the memory was etched in his heart deeply.

With a deep sigh, he placed the photo close to his heart and closed his eyes to feel her smile and remember the sound of her sweet laughter.

"Sir, Miss Madeline is here. She is waiting for you," Aditya heard the head maid knocking at the door of the attic room and sighed before placing the photos and letters back in the chest.

He locked the chest and covered it with the cloth before throwing it in the corner casually so that no one suspects that chest and tries to open it.

"I am coming after reading a couple of documents," Aditya said before ruffling a few files to cover his tracks.

After dusting his clothes with his hands, he walked out of the room with the same aloof expression that he was infamous for. The expression that makes people say he resembles his grandfather in his young days.

He descended the stairs, his gaze falling on Madeline, who was drinking some tea with a sweet smile on her face that obviously looked too fake to be true.

"What can I say, mother? Aditya has always been like this. He doesn’t even remember that we had to go shopping for clothes today," Madeline’s words came next to whatever his mother said.

He wouldn’t be so annoyed with her presence, but when his heart wants to see that particular girl, he just can’t be with the girl he chose over her.

’I got attacked by the human boys,’

’Who do you think has the power?’

’I think Madeline is behind the incident,’ Aditya remembered all the words Eliana said to him and sighed before massaging his head.

He still can’t decide who to believe and who to not.

Madeline has indeed been a bit moody ever since Elliana entered their life again, but that doesn’t mean she will hire people straight away to bully her.

"Aditya, here you are. What am I hearing? Madeline has been waiting for you to call her, and you forgot? How can you do something so grave? Don’t you know a man should always stay true to his words? What kind of example are you setting?" Aditya’s mother smiled softly, clearly making fun of him, and he smiled back.

"I am sorry, Mom. I was busy with the recent report and completely forgot about it. Now if you allow, shall I take my partner to the shopping?" Aditya smiled at Madeline, who looked at his mother.

"Well, go ahead. Who am I to stop you?" She ushered them out of the council chambers, and Madeline turned to Aditya.

"I am sorry, Aditya. I had no idea that you were so busy with the work. It’s just that the event day is nearing, and as a member of the student’s representative committee, I am sure you’ll get even busier," Madeline looked at Aditya innocently, and he hummed absentmindedly.
