Chapter 79: Rex Returns

Sitting inside Rex’s chambers, Regan was thinking deeply when he heard a growl from the balcony.

The next moment, he was walking towards the balcony.

As he knew already, Lavo was standing there and waiting for him. The giant creature knew very well how to find his master.

At this moment, his blue eyes were fixed on his master and they seemed to be filled with grievance.

Regan sighed when he saw him like this and said

"She is not well yet."

The past few days Lavo was coming everyday just because he wanted to see Evelyn. However, Regan couldn’t let that happen.

Evelyn was still recovering.

Lavo growled again in response to his master’s words and Regan had a strict expression on his face this time as he asked

"Do you want to see her in pain?"

As if he understood what his master was saying to him, Lavo no longer growled again instead he mewled softly.

Regan was not strict with him any longer. He stepped forward and patted him gently as he said

"Lavo, what do you think? Does she hate me? She must be despising me. After all, if she had not been by my side then none of this would have happened to her."

Regan’s red eyes had a forlorn look when he said these words.

His mother, Regina had red eyes which was quite abnormal. Since her birth, many people ruined her reputation by calling her a witch.

However, his grandparents had been by his mother’s side and after they died, his mother ruled Mazic in absence of any other heir.

The people of Mazic also started to love her with time seeing how she truly cared for them.

However, Regina suffered from the same taunts when she married Derrick, King of Alfaros.

Still, she had been very strong and ignored those people.

He was also born with those same red eyes. Regan still remembered how his mother took the death on herself that was supposed to be for him.

He couldn’t help but close his eyes for a moment as the memories flashed in his mind.

’You are cursed.’

’The prince is cursed. He didn’t even leave his mother just like how his mother didn’t leave her parents.’

Living in the Royal Palace since then he had heard many people calling him cursed.

Hence, when he came to know that Rex’s Palace was on fire, he didn’t hesitate for even a second before jumping in the fire to save him.

That time, he either wanted to die with his brother, who was the only person by his side or save him using his life.

Because Regan didn’t wish to stay alive only to hear the words again that he even ate his brother who always looked out for him.

And Rex was his only support after his mother left...partly his father was as well until he realized that his father’s love for his mother was not enough for him to even punish those people who were behind her death.

Regan came out of his trance when Lavo growled again.

He smiled bitterly as he looked at his pet who looked equally sad.

"Am I really cursed Lavo as they say? Perhaps that’s why Evelyn is going through so much."

Lavo couldn’t speak but he stood there to listen whatever Regan had to say.

The master and pet stood there for a long time, finding solace in his each other’s company.

After Lavo left, Regan stepped inside the chambers again.

Since he had talked to someone, Regan’s head was slightly clear now. The past few days, all kinds of thoughts had been buzzing him but now he realized that it was not the time to blame himself.

"Guards!"

Regan shouted and when they were inside, Regan gave them a work.

"You two... go to Alfaros. Go there and find out everything about the slave trader ...especially how they free the slaves."

The two guards were surprised by the sudden order nonetheless composed themselves very soon and said respectfully

"Yes, Your Highness"

And then they left the chambers.

Two days later, Rex and Elias also returned to Mazic.

As soon as they reached the castle, the first thing both the men did was to find Regan and ensure if everything was fine.

This morning, Regan had called the men to practice so he was in the grounds. When he saw Rex and Elias from far away, he signed the men to continue practicing and walked towards them.

"Regan..."

Rex held his brother’s arm as he looked at him from top to bottom. When he saw that Regan looked completely fine, he was relieved and immediately hugged him.

Though he had sent Regan back alone, he had been worried constantly. When he stayed at the border and didn’t find anything weird there, his worried only increased as his doubts that someone was trying to confuse them only got stronger.

That’s why he was worried that it might be a trap to harm Regan. Fortunately, Regan looked completely fine.

Elias also looked relieved to see his master.

When they parted, Regan looked at Rex and asked even though he already knew the answer.

"Did something happen there?"

Rex’s lips were pressed in a thin line as he shook his head. Regan smiled coldly as he told Rex

"I went to Royal Palace. He said that he didn’t send any such letter."

It meant that the letter they received was fake. But it had the stamp from Royal Palace.

Rex frowned deeply. When he saw his brother’s cold red eyes, he couldn’t help but ask

"Did something happen here?"

Regan only hummed and patted Rex’s shoulder as he said

"Go and rest. We can talk letter."

He could tell that Rex didn’t have a good rest in the past few days. And the men were still waiting for him as he was amidst the training.

Rex could also see this.

So he nodded his head stiffly and watched his brother going back.

However, as soon as he returned to his chambers, he called Henry and asked him everything.

As Rex and Elias heard whatever Henry said, they were shocked as well as angry.

After Henry left, Elias said immediately

"Your Highness, Who do you think is behind all this? And why did they target Evelyn?"

Elias actually felt band for Evelyn. Not even a whole month had passed since the girl came here and she had already gone through so much.

In Rex’s mind flashed Regan’s words regarding Rafael and his knuckles looked white as he clenched his hands tightly.

The target had been Regan simply but Evelyn just got involved in the mess.

If it was indeed Rafael who was behind all this then he will not let go of him so easily this time.

Rex promised himself.
