Chapter 70: The Horrible Night (1)

Inside the dark cell, Evelyn leaned against the wall of the dungeons. Her face was pale and her forehead was covered with beads of sweat.

Her throat was dry and her lips were parched.

She wanted some water.

It had been two days since she had been brought here and it had been four days since she had anything.

Before there was at least some water in the pot inside the cell. But since the pot was too small and already not fully filled, hence regardless of how much she tried to use it meticulously, it still got vacant last evening.

She felt so weak that she wondered if this time she would finally die here in this cell.

It was not the first time she was having this feeling. Every time in the past, she would be starved like this, she would wonder about this.

And now, what accompanied her were the wounds on her body.

As soon as they brought her here, a soldier came to interrogate her.

They asked her if it was she who let the invaders inside the Mazic’s castle. She had been shocked when she heard such a question. However, regardless of how vehemently she refused that she didn’t do such a thing, no one seemed to believe her.

They even asked her if she knew Prince William. Evelyn knew who prince William was. She had heard maids in Zamorin talking about him.

But she had never seen him let alone knew him enough to tell anything to these soldiers.

However, again no one believed her.

Why were they even asking her if they didn’t want to believe? She had wondered when they beat her telling her again and again that she should just accept what she did if she didn’t wish to die.

But she didn’t do anything. Why should she accept something she never did in the first place?

The pain was however horrible...especially since the wound of her shoulder ached whenever they hit her there. Though she had tried her best to save the wound from their sticks, it had already started bleeding.

Her beautiful dress, which had been bought for her by the prince was now stained with mud and blood.

Her face was pale.

She wondered if she should just accept it. The pain in her body was making her strong will weak.

However, when she thought about how the prince would react if she accepted this, her heart ached immensely ...more than she could feel from her body wounds and bruises.

And that was what would stop her in the end.

Evelyn didn’t fear death. What she feared was pain. And that was what exactly they were inflicting upon her.

And she didn’t know how long she will last.

Hope flickered in her eyes when she heard the sound of footsteps. Perhaps they would finally give her some water and food to eat.

However, she had been very wrong and she realized that soon.

More sounds came and someone seemed to be opening the lock on the door of the cell.

"Your Highness, she is inside."

She heard someone say but she couldn’t see clearly who it was. It was dark and almost everything in front of her eyes was blurry.

Hearing the word ’Your Highness’ filled Evelyn’s eyes with hope as she thought that her master was finally here.

In these past four days, she had been wondering if the prince also thought that it was she who was behind the attack.

Did he believe her?

"You can leave."

She heard a cold voice and soon her hope-filled eyes dimmed.

It was not her master. Evelyn was sure as soon as she heard the voice. Her master’s voice...it was completely different.

She focused her eyes on the door from where a man stepped inside the cell. He had a lamp in his hands which he put down and then looked at her.

When he approached her, it was only then Evelyn could see his face clearly.

He was a prince. She knew as soon as she saw the cape. But his eyes were never like that of her master. They were filled with arrogance and something else that made her feel very uncomfortable as he looked down at her...especially when he sneered.

"So you are the slave he bought that day?"

Evelyn understood that he was referring to her master but she didn’t like the way he mentioned him.

All in all, this man made her totally uncomfortable. But she knew that she could only lower her head and called out respectfully

"Your Highness..."

Rafael was immensely satisfied when he saw her lowered head. He liked those who were submissive to him.

Was that not the same reason that made him hate Regan more than he did?

"Do you know why you have been brought here?"

Rafael asked in a gentle voice that was completely different from the cold voice he used before.

Evelyn was hesitant before she answered

"Yes, Your Highness."

Rafael hummed as he walked to the vacant pot and saw it empty then he walked back to Evelyn and said calmly.

"You are being doubted of planning an attack on the fourth prince Regan."

"I didn’t do it, Your Highness"

Evelyn said immediately.

Rafael chuckled when he heard this and looked at her lowered head for a long time before he said

"I know."

If he didn’t know then why would he have made such a plan to bring her here and at the same time to divert Regan’s attention somewhere else?

But he had to do it. If the investigation had continued, then it could have harmed him in many ways.

Therefore he needed someone to take the blame to stop the investigation completely.

The words made Evelyn raise her head swiftly and look at him in shock. And more shocked made her what Rafael said next.

"But you will say that you did it."

There was no longer any gentleness on his face when he said the last few words.

And Evelyn could only look at him in shock and confusion.
