Chapter 67: Soldiers From Royal Palace

Chapter 67: Soldiers From Royal Palace

It was evening.

The sun was about to set. Since prince was no longer here, Evelyn decided to shift to her own room. Fortunately, the prince didn’t order the maids who were there to help her about keeping her inside the chambers only.

Evelyn felt more comfortable inside her own room.

However, the two guards accompanied her. Her head hurt as she saw the two of them guarding her room solemnly.

But she could do nothing that could make them go away. They obeyed the prince only and the prince was not there.

The thoughts of prince brought Evelyn to this morning when she was strolling inside the garden with Hannah, Miri and Ami. She remembered what Hannah had said.

For the whole day after that, she had intentionally tried not to think about that.

Now that she thought about it...Evelyn thought that it was possible that her friends were overreacting.

She got injured while protecting the prince. Knowing how generous and kind hearted the prince was, he would never leave anyone alone in such a situation.

Yes, that must be it.

She shouldn’t be thinking along whatever Hannah said and get confused needlessly.

Evelyn told herself and she could soon feel her fast beating heart calm down. It was only then that she felt normal.

"My Lady, should I bring the dinner?"

Evelyn came out of her trance when she heard the maid’s words and nodded her head. The way they called her still made her feel awkward.

She had asked them to call her by her name but the maids didn’t listen to her. Other than that, they were very good. They would even try to talk to her when they would see that she was feeling bored.

What made Evelyn feel surprised was that they could read.

One of them would even read a book for her. Seeing this, she couldn’t help but feel a tinge of disappointment in herself. She knew that even Hannah, Miri and Ami knew how to read and write.

It seems that it was only she who didn’t know how to hold even a brush.

However, life didn’t have been less harsh on her. It was already a wonder that she managed to survive until now. So how could she get the chance to be literate!

Evelyn sighed as she accepted her fate with a heart full of disappointment. Another sigh escaped her lips when the other maid came and told her.

"My Lady, I have washed your clothes."

Her dresses had been piled up these days as she had been unable to wash. Since she had many dresses now, she didn’t need to worry about lack of clothes to wear. She had been thinking of washing them either tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. But she had not expected that when the maid would see them, she would not even hesitate to take the work in her own hands.

Now all her dresses were already washed.

They were indeed very good with their work. There was no doubt that they made her life easier when she was injured but since she was not used to of it, she would feel uncomfortable whenever they did something for her.

The maid who had left to bring the dinner had already entered the room with a bowl of porridge in her hands.

She sat on the bed as she stirred the hot porridge softly and then took the spoon near Evelyn’s lips.

Evelyn was about to have it when she heard loud voices from outside the room and frowned in confusion.

"Is there something wrong?"

She whispered and the maid who was standing beside the bed immediately said

"I will go and have a look, My Lady. You should continue your dinner."

Evelyn nodded her head softly and was about to move towards the spoon but she flinched when the door of the room was thrown opened with a bang.

The maid who was helping her with the dinner frowned and looked towards the door.

However, hers as well as Evelyn’s eyes went wide when they saw the other maid who had gone outside lying on the floor unconscious.

The first maid was scared but still kept a firm face as she put the bowl and looked at the man who was entering the room with the sword in his hand.

Following behind him were a few soldiers and Evelyn’s eyes narrowed in confusion when she looked at their uniforms. She could easily recognise it.

These soldiers were from the Royal Palace of Alfaros. But what were they doing here!

"What kind of behaviour is this? Who are you? Invading inside someone’s room like this, have you lost all your senses?"

The maid shouted angrily. However, the man in front glared at her and said coldly

"Don’t you think that you speak too much as a woman?"

The maid was angry when she heard these words and was about to speak more but when the man suddenly glared at her sharply and stepped toward her with his sword, Evelyn held her hand to stop her.

"My Lady..."

The maid looked at Evelyn wanted to say something but Evelyn signed her not to speak.

She looked at the man in uniform and asked politely though her heart was surging with anger after seeing the maid lying on the ground unconscious. She was worried about her and wanted her to be get treated as soon as possible.

"Mister, may I ask what is the matter?"

The man looked at her from head to toe. Evelyn didn’t like the way he looked at her. She felt utterly uncomfortable...the discomfort that she had not felt for a long time returned.

Fortunately, the man spoke

"Are you the slave His Highness just bought a few weeks ago?"

Confused, Evelyn nodded her head.

"Yes, It is me. What is the matter?"

The guard didn’t give any response to her question. He instead looked behind and said

"Pick her up and drag her out of this castle."
