Chapter 23: She Can Wear Only Green Colour

Chapter 23: She Can Wear Only Green Colour

The years that have starved Evelyn had also made her body slender and thin. From the past few days since she had started to eat at times and until she felt full, her cheeks had started to gain their color.

Hence, the royal blue colored dress looked very beautiful on Evelyn in contrast to her pale white skin.

If one would ignore the black band on her wrist, she looked no less than a noble lady.

Her thin waist was unconsciously highlighted and her green eyes had the calmness and innocence that could be found rarely in people.

It was those same eyes that had compelled Regan to save this girl.

As he looked at the silent Evelyn who even looked slightly uncomfortable because of so many eyes on herself, Regan felt as if something was stirring inside his chest.

His hand unconsciously went there as he wondered what was happening to him.

There was a sudden desire to hide her away somewhere else where only he would be ...

"Regan"

Regan’s thoughts were interrupted by his brother’s playful voice. And when Regan realized the direction in which his thoughts were going, for the first time he felt grateful to Rex.

However, the gratefulness vanished as soon as it came when he saw the surprise as well as the amusement in Rex’s eyes.

"Regan, are you alright? Why are you holding your chest? Should I call for a doctor?"

At these words, not only Elias but even Evelyn was worried.

Both stepped forward and said

"Your Highness, I shall go and call for a doctor."

Evelyn and Elias looked at each other. Evelyn was slightly surprised and Elias narrowed his eyes as he thought that now someone else was there to steal his job.

On the other hand, Regan removed his hand from his chest and coughed awkwardly. He glanced at Rex knowing very well that his brother was making fun of him...something that these two fools couldn’t see.

And somewhere he felt thankful for that.

"I am alright."

However, Rex seemed to be determined to elongate this matter and asked with a fake concern-laced voice.

"Are you? Then why were you..."

"Elder Brother."

Regan stopped Rex firmly from finishing his words and before anyone could say anything, he turned to look at the tailor and said

"Take her measurements and send the dresses as soon as possible."

"Yes, Your Highness"

The tailor said eagerly. A woman that was brought by him stepped forward and checked where the dress didn’t fit Evelyn but it seemed that the dress was just perfect for Evelyn so she noted all the measurements accordingly.

All this while, Regan couldn’t help but steal a few glances at her. His red eyes would be however filled with some annoyance when they would fall on the black band on her wrist.

It didn’t go well with her dress.

But he looked at Rex whose attention was solely on him. So he just looked away without saying anything else.

Evelyn went to change her clothes and by the time she returned the tailor had already taken out different different colors of clothes with different textures.

She was slightly dazed as she looked at so many colors.

There was actually no need for so many colors. She had wanted to say but silently choose the green color.

"This...please make a dress for me with this cloth."

She said to the woman who was writing everything politely. The woman nodded her head and wrote it down.

However, when she saw Evelyn stepping back after choosing only one color and cloth, her forehead wrinkled.

Not only she but everyone else looked at Evelyn in confusion.

"Lady...do you not want any more dresses?"

"No"

Evelyn shook her head and responded calmly.

Rex chuckled when he noticed that the tailor looked as if he would cry at any moment. He couldn’t help but look at his brother and say

"Regan, are you this poor that you won’t let her buy more than one dress?"

Regan gave a blank look at Rex and looked at Evelyn in a questioning manner who didn’t seem to know what was wrong.

"Your Highness, I asked for only one dress."

When he heard this, Regan’s lips twitched for a moment but his mask hid it well.

"And I did say that you can have as many dresses as you want."

Regan felt annoyed by how Rex raised his eyebrows playfully at his words but he ignored him and looked at Evelyn firmly, silently asking her to choose more.

So Evelyn turned to the woman and said

"Then please make four dresses for me with this cloth."

Four would be more than enough for her.

However, people inside the room seemed to have some problems again and she felt it when she saw that everyone was looking at her weirdly.

The tailor sighed as he looked at the green cloth which Evelyn has chosen and said

"Lady Evelyn, why don’t you take a look at other clothes as well? You might like them."

One need not mention that when the tailor was informed that he needed to go to the castle, he had thought a lot of money was on his way but Evelyn’s choices were spilling water in his expectations.

"I can’t do that."

Evelyn said calmly.

"Slaves in the Royal Palace wear only green color. I am ought to do the same."

The words seemed to be reasonable to everyone except one person who said coldly

"Make one dress for her of every color."

Evelyn’s eyes widened when she heard this and she turned to look at her master with shock.

"Your Highness, I don’t need that many."

However, Regan only glanced at her coldly and then glanced at Elias who threw a heavy pouch of coins at the tailor.

The tailor eagerly caught it and thanked Regan many times before he collected the clothes and left with his people.

All this while, Evelyn continued to wonder what exactly she did wrong or say to anger Regan.

Otherwise, why would he glance at her like this?
