Chapter 216: The Letter
Chapter 216: The Letter
Evelyn’s training was going on very well.
From morning to afternoon she learned swordsmanship from Isla or Elliot or sometimes Ezra. They seem to have distributed days within themselves to train her.
Evelyn wondered if it was because she was too much of a burden.
Did she give them a headache by doing the wrong moves?
If only she knew...the three literally had a fight over who will train Evelyn in Regan’s absence. In the end, they had to divide the days among themselves, something which was disliked by Ezra lot because Regan had clearly assigned him the work. Then it should be he who should get the opportunity to train with the princess consort.
However, his so called friends had decided to steal this opportunity from him. Ezra was left helpless when the two literally surrounded him and forced him to agree with themselves.
It was torture ...an emotional torture and he had to agree.
Evelyn didn’t know about this but she tried her best regardless of whosoever was training her.
In the evening, Isla taught her new words.
She had also started to read books now. Though she needed Isla’s help here and there, she was still better than before when she could not able to recognize anything written in the book.
The experience of reading a book thrilled Evelyn. She felt so excited to learn everything and read so many stories, Ezra, Elliot, and Isla told her about.
These days they did this only...telling stories that made Evelyn feel interested and she had her meals hearing those wonderful stories.
This was her only way to distract her mind from thinking about Regan.
However, when the night came and she had to sleep alone inside her room on that bed, Evelyn would come to realize Regan’s absence after avoiding the same for the whole day.
No pillow wall was needed anymore but she still made it as if it provided her some comfort.
Almost a week passed since Regan had left Royal City with the soldiers and Evelyn finally received a letter. She took the letter from the maid’s hands immediately and opened it.
However, she was not able to recognize some words. She didn’t wish to waste any time so she gave the letter to Isla in the end.
Isla took the letter and looked at the maid.
"Who gave the letter?"
"It was the prince’s pet."
Evelyn’s eyes widened when she heard the maid’s answer and she asked immediately
"Did Lavo come?"
The maid nodded her head and Evelyn wanted to go and see Lavo immediately. However, the maid who guessed her intentions said immediately
"It left, Your Highness."
"He left..."
Evelyn whispered with a lost expression on her face. Isla looked at the maid with an unhappy expression on her face and signed her to leave with her hand.
The maid left with an apologetic expression on her face.
In the past month, the servants in the Palace including Evelyn’s knights have realized how Evelyn was. She didn’t have any arrogance of a master but she was responsible.
They liked Evelyn very much as their mistress but they didn’t like to see her upset.
Only Ezra, Elliot, and Isla knew how they looked for interesting stories every day just so Evelyn would have her full three meals.
Isla sighed when she saw Evelyn’s lowered head and said softly
"My Lady, Lavo must have been asked to leave immediately by His Highness. After all, he would be needed on the battlefield. It will still take him three days to reach there."
Evelyn raised her head and nodded her head in understanding.
Indeed, Prince would need Lavo on the battlefield. It was good that Lavo left immediately. Evelyn took a deep breath to compose herself and looked at the letter in Isla’s hands.
Isla smiled seeing her gaze and opened the letter.
Isla blinked when she opened it. It was a very short letter. Still, she read it aloud for Evelyn.
"We have reached the border. The enemies have not attacked yet. Have your meals on time and train every day. Write all the words you are learning on a paper ten times. I will check them when I will return."
And then there was ’Regan’ name below this.
Isla raised her head and looked at Evelyn with an awkward expression on her face. Evelyn looked at her with a frown on her forehead and said
"Read ahead."
Isla smiled tightly but had to reply
"I have read everything, Your Highness."
Evelyn blinked and then took the letter from Isla’s hands as she whispered
"Only this much..."
After more than a week, she received one letter and it had only five to six sentences. How was it possible?
But Evelyn realized that Isla was true when she saw only a para on the scroll and nothing else.
She even turned the scroll upside down to see if he wrote anything somewhere else but there was nothing anywhere.
In the end, she suddenly felt frustration filling up her heart. Giving the letter to Isla, she ran back to her room.
"My Lady!"
Isla called out but Evelyn didn’t stop.
Isla sighed as she stared at the scroll in her hands. She could actually understand why her lady was so upset.
Could His Highness not write another para? Isla wondered.
Even the para he wrote was so awkward. Did he always write letters like this? It was more as if he was instructing his subordinates to behave in his absence.
Isla sighed yet again as she put the letter on the table. After that, she decided to go to Ezra and Elliot to tell them about this. They needed to cheer up their lady. As long as they were with her, she was not allowed to stay upset.
However what she didn’t know was that when she left, Evelyn came back again. She picked the letter from the table and looked at it with grudge-filled eyes before she left with the same letter in her hands.
In the end, that was the only thing she had of him in his absence.
