Chapter 195: A Mistake
Chapter 195: A Mistake
Evelyn had not expected that Peri would still have a face to come and talk to her. But PerI actually did come to talk to her as soon as Rex left.
"Evelyn..."
Evelyn recognized the voice as soon as she heard it.
A frown marred her face instantly when she saw how Peri had a wronged expression on her face. And her frown only deepened when Evelyn heard Peri say
"Evelyn, I am really sorry. But I didn’t mean to do it on the stage just now. You know that I don’t know how to dance?"
Peri was lying.
The day she became a concubine a maid had come to teach her some basic things that were important for a concubine to learn and she had also taught Peri how to dance.
Although Peri was not skilled, she still could do some doable steps.
Even if she didn’t anyone with eyes could see that she was doing everything she did on the stage intentionally. And Evelyn believed Rex and Regan.
Still, she pretended as if she believed Peri and asked her
"I can understand that you didn’t know how to dance. But Peri didn’t you say those concubines were your friends?"
Peri’s eyes widened slightly when she heard this. She didn’t want Evelyn to be angry at her. She knew that Evelyn could help her a lot in the future so in her hurry to make Evelyn believe her she said desperately and without thinking
"I was not lying."
"Then how can you stand so silently when your friends were insulting me?"
Evelyn asked immediately after Peri answered.
Peri closed and opened her mouth but she didn’t have anything to say in her defense.
If she said the truth that she was afraid of those concubines bullying then her words that they were her friends would become a lie.
What else she could say now?!
So she smiled nervously and tried to pretend as if Evelyn was making a mountain out of a mole.
"They were just having fun, Evelyn. You took it too seriously."
Evelyn’s lips were pressed in a thin line.
Indeed, Peri was a different girl than she had thought. You can never know someone well in only three days. Evelyn thought suddenly and she even felt stupid for considering Peri as her friend just for those three days.
She couldn’t recognize Gianna and her family’s true intentions even after years yet she dared to believe Peri in only three days.
"Evelyn..."
When Peri called her out again, Evelyn only felt irritated seeing her pretense and lies.
"I need to use the restroom."
She whispered in a low voice and then left the banquet hall before Peri could stop her. She doesn’t wish to be around Peri for now because she was feeling very upset.
Outside the banquet hall, there was a beautiful garden. Everyone was in the banquet hall so the garden was vacant completely and Evelyn realized her mistake of stepping out only when she had stepped inside the garden.
Her eyes widened as she remembered what the prince had said to her and she immediately turned around to go inside the banquet hall.
However, a gasp left her lips when she turned around and came across the very face she didn’t wish to see at all.
"Arthur..."
Evelyn whispered in a trembling voice.
His eyes were staring at her with no emotion but all Evelyn felt was fear. Every time she looked at Arthur, all she remembered was Oliver’s dead body that was covered in a pool of red blood, Gianna’s lies and selfishness and her being sold like an object.
Evelyn breathed heavily and calmed herself by telling her that Elias was still around. She didn’t need to fear Arthur.
She took a step back and the next moment, she raised her leg to walk past him to go inside the banquet hall.
However, Arthur’s arm immediately grasped hers and
He dragged her across a wall where no one could see them.
Evelyn’s eyes widened in shock and she immediately said loudly.
"Don’t...Elias is still around...Arthur...Leave me."
Needless to say, Evelyn was very afraid. Arthur’s touch was enough for her body to get still all over. She looked around with teary eyes wondering why Elias had not come out.
Should she scream?
But if she did, then the people in the banquet hall will come out and she as a Princess Consort would become a mockery regardless of whose fault it was.
Evelyn really hoped that Elias would come out but when he didn’t, she decided to scream putting everything aside.
However, just when she opened her mouth to scream, Arthur covered her mouth tightly with his hand and looked at her with warning-filled eyes.
"Don’t, Evelyn. I am not doing anything to make you scream yet."
Evelyn’s eyes flashed with disgust when she saw a smirk on Arthur’s lips while saying his last few words. Arthur’s smile fell when he noticed it.
He held her hand against the wall above her head when she tried to struggle while his other hand covered her mouth tightly.
When Evelyn tried to raise her leg to kick him, he pressed her leg down and now his body was completely against hers.
Evelyn turned her face forcefully away when she felt his breath falling on her face.
Arthur’s eyes went colder when he noticed her actions.
He stared at her face for a few moments before he asked
"Why were you so scared of Raphael? Did he do something?"
When Arthur asked his second question, his voice was especially cold.
Since the moment, Evelyn had stepped inside the banquet hall, he had not looked away from her. So he noticed her fear very well when Raphael was talking to Regan and Rex.
He didn’t know what they were talking about but Arthur knew that Evelyn was afraid of Raphael.
Evelyn, however, was not in the state of speaking so she didn’t answer his question. She just wanted him to leave her. She regretted being stupid and stepping out of the banquet hall. It would have been better if she had just stayed by Peri’s regardless of how upset she was.
"I am asking you something, Evelyn."
She closed her eyes when she felt him caressing her cheek with the same hand he was holding her mouth shut.
Arthur sighed suddenly when he saw that she was not still saying anything.
"I don’t wish to do it with you but you just force me."
Evelyn opened her eyes unable to understand what he said.
But her heart was filled with fear of the unknown.
