Chapter 167: Evelyn To Learn Royal Etiquettes

Regan wished to return to Mazic when he had heard Derrick that the matter regarding Evelyn’s marriage with Arthur that happened years ago would be put to rest.

It meant that Derrick was no longer interested in fulfilling Arthur’s demand and it was perhaps because Derrick also found all the ministers and Regan’s words reasonable.

Arthur was from an enemy country and he had not helped them much for now so they should not fulfill any of his demands.

However, the next morning just when Regan was discussing with Rex when they should return to Mazic, Regan was called to Royal Palace by Derrick.

Regan didn’t wish to go but Rex persuaded him.

According to Rex, Derrick had helped Regan by putting a full stop to Arthur’s demand so they should also show some respect to him as a king that he deserved. And since he had called Regan to Royal Palace, he should go there once.

Hence, the same morning Regan was inside Derrick’s chambers.

"You can’t leave Mazic yet."

Derrick said calmly because he knew that Regan was not going to initiate any conversation with him. Hearing his words, Regan frowned instantly

Before he could ask anything, Derrick continued

"That girl needs to learn the rules of Royal Palace, Regan."

Regan’s frown only went deeper as he realized who his father was talking about. But he didn’t like how Derrick talked about Evelyn ...as if she was some sort of disease.

That was the problem.

In Derrick’s eyes, Slaves were no less than any disease. It was this thinking of him that had always disappointed Regina who was also Regan’s mother.

Derrick might have protected his empire from enemies very well but in Regina’s eyes, he was not an ideal Emperor.

However, Regan was also slightly surprised.

Regardless of what kind of expression Derrick had on his face, his words indicated that he was ready to accept Evelyn as Regan’s wife.

Regan was silent for some time before he said suddenly

"But Evelyn won’t come to Royal Palace. A lady teacher to teach her etiquettes can be sent to my Palace."

It was not that Regan thought that Evelyn needed to learn all this.

But he thought that perhaps on learning the etiquettes of Royal Palace, Evelyn would find herself confident in front of others in the future.

And since he was the prince of Mazic, Evelyn would also have some responsibilities on her shoulders. Regan thought that the teaching would help Evelyn in learning how to manage the castle in Mazic.

However, he also knew that he couldn’t let Evelyn come to the Royal Palace. The teacher might not behave with her nicely and there was Arthur here also.

Hence, he accepted Derrick’s demand but with his own condition.

As long as it was in his Palace, no one could harm even a strand of Evelyn’s hair.

Derrick didn’t like Regan’s suggestion but then his eyes suddenly flashed and he nodded his head as he said

"Alright."

"I also wish to assign you some duties."

Derrick said and looked at his son. Regan only nodded his head. He was anyways free here so he decided to hear what kind of work Derrick wished to assign him.

It was nothing but to keep an eye on the trade happening in Royal City’s markets. Regan accepted this work and left the Royal Palace.

On the other hand, Derrick summoned one of the ministers and said

"Prepare your daughter. She would go to Regan’s Palace tomorrow with the Lady teacher."

Minister’s eyes brightened when he heard this and he immediately bowed his head deeply.

"As Your Majesty says."

Derrick waved his hand to dismiss him.

The minister left and Derrick walked to one of the paintings inside the room. It was of Regina, his third and last queen.

But she was also the only woman Derrick had loved sincerely.

Unfortunately, she left this world too soon.

Caressing Regina’s painting, Derrick sighed as he said

"He has made a mistake. But don’t worry. As long as I am here, I will correct them. He can keep that slave but she can’t be more than a concubine. In the end, he would have to marry a girl who would be of his status and an ideal candidate for being a Queen."

Derrick had made all the plans for his son, Regan regardless of what Regan wished.

He was not realizing that he was already too far away from Regan and that what he was planning would only increase the distance between them.

On returning to the Palace, Regan immediately went to Evelyn’s room. When he stepped inside the room, he found Evelyn seated in front of the dressing table while the maid was helping her with her hair.

Evelyn on the other hand seemed to have a sort of helpless expression on her face.

When she saw the prince in the mirror, an expression of relief immediately formed on her face and she stood up from her seat and called out

"Your Highness..."

Evelyn looked as if she had found a saviour and her situation amused Regan.

The maid looked slightly disappointed but also understood that she was not needed anymore and hence she bowed her head and left the room.

Evelyn sighed in relief and her eyes followed the maid until the latter had stepped outside the room completely. She looked at Regan again and said in almost a begging tone

"Your Highness, why did you assign a maid to me? I don’t need a maid. I can do my chores on my own."

It was the same maid who had readied Evelyn for the marriage.

The day before yesterday, Evelyn had been able to bear the enthusiasm of the maid but she was unable to do so for a long time.

She was too enthusiastic and too eager to try all the hairstyles she knew on Evelyn. In fact, to Evelyn, it seemed that the maid’s favorite thing was to decorate her.

But she didn’t enjoy being seated idly in front of the mirror for such a long time and she also didn’t know how to say ’no’ to someone.

Hence, Evelyn found herself completely helpless.
