Chapter 165: Who Will Win?

What Arthur said was only half the truth.

Because it was indeed Gianna who had sold Evelyn to the slave trader. Indeed, Evelyn realized very soon after Gianna had left her that she was liked by Gianna only because of Oliver.

As long as Oliver was alive, Gianna liked her a lot thinking that she would take care of Oliver.

But the reason behind selling her to a slave trader was because Gianna wanted to avenge Oliver’s death from Arthur. She knew that Arthur liked Evelyn and hence killed Oliver.

So she attacked the person most dear to Arthur.

Hence, Arthur’s lies were half-truths.

Still, Evelyn couldn’t believe how easily Arthur put all the blame on Gianna. Did he need a reminder that he killed his brother Oliver?

However, Evelyn was also aware that she didn’t have any evidence, and without evidence, she couldn’t speak again Arthur.

But she still could do something.

She raised her head and looked towards Arthur for the first time in the whole day. Finding Arthur already looked at herself did stilled her body but she clenched her fists tightly as if she was trying to provide herself with some strength.

On the other hand, Arthur’s eyes were filled with hope. He thought that perhaps Evelyn also wished to change her decision. But the next moment, he heard her say calmly

"My marriage with Sir Arthur was not with my will."

Arthur’s eyes went wide. The next moment, he stared at Regan coldly. His hands were also clenched tightly. According to him, it was Regan who had taught Evelyn all this.

Otherwise, his Evelyn would never speak a single word more than she was asked to. She was submissive and meek.

But he still put a smile on his lips as he said

"Evelyn, do you blame me because I couldn’t save you when my mother sold you? I am saying the truth. I didn’t know what my mother was thinking at that time and I have been looking for you all these years."

As he said these words, Arthur continued to stare into Evelyn’s eyes and Evelyn suddenly felt a headache forming.

She felt confused for a while as she heard Arthur continuing

"Evelyn, do you not remember you had signed the marriage certificate with your hands, didn’t you?"

"Yes..."

Evelyn whispered in a daze and Arthur’s eyes flashed with victory. Looking at Derrick, he said immediately

"Did you hear that Your Majesty?"

On the other hand, Regan frowned and looked at Evelyn’s lowered head.

But Arthur continued

"Evelyn does remember signing the marriage certificate. Your Majesty, my marriage with Evelyn was legal. I accept that the royals in Alfaros could marry any women they wish to but it must be because of Empire’s interest. I don’t see any interest in Empire getting fulfilled if Prince Regan marries Evelyn. And Your Majesty, I would never let my Evelyn become an object of someone’s interest like this."

The ministers in the court sighed as they looked at Arthur.

How much he loved this girl exactly to fight for her like this! Was not it merely a woman? He could have many like this if he gave this one to the prince and gained his favor.

They didn’t know if they should admire Arthur’s courage or mock his foolishness.

If only they knew to what extent exactly Arthur could go to get Evelyn...

However, regardless of what Arthur said, many ministers could be seen on his side. One of them even stood up and said

"Your Majesty, Sir Arthur’s words seems right to me. She is an ordinary girl and doesn’t fulfill any of Empires’ interests. On the other hand, if we give this girl to Sir Arthur then we might be able to get some important information regarding Prince William from Sir Arthur, right Sir Arthur?"

Regan chuckled on hearing Arthur and said

"It is slightly funny how Sir Arthur claims that he would not let Evelyn become an object of interest ever...and yet you are using her to blackmail us as you are aware that Alfaros need Prince William’s whereabouts."

Arthur stiffened hearing these words. For a moment, he was speechless.

Because what Regan said was very true.

Indeed, his words were very contradictory.

Just when Arthur was thinking how to twist his words, Regan didn’t give him any chance and said

"Do you think that Alfaros is weak? It is already generous that we have not locked you inside dungeons and tortured you for finding out about your friend’s whereabouts. And yet so still dare to put some outrageous demands in front of us."

Finally, one of the ministers stood up from his seat and said

"I agree with His Highness, Your Majesty. I have been thinking about this for a long time. Sir Arthur is our captor from an enemy country if we see it from the other side. He doesn’t have the right to put any demands in front of us. We are already being generous by treating him as our guest."

Arthur was completely silent when he heard this because he suddenly felt that things were not going in his favor.

And Evelyn only hit the nail on the head completely when she raised her head and said

"I did sign on the marriage certificate but ...I didn’t even know what it was when I signed it. I was still in shock because of Oliver’s death. I didn’t know what was going on."

And this proved that even the marriage that Arthur claimed to be legal was not legal ...because he married his brother’s widow when she had not even recovered from his death shock.
