Chapter 148: After The Doom

Chapter 148: After The Doom

In the dark room, Evelyn sat in the corner. This was a very small room in the back of the house where they first used to keep two cows before. However, not long ago they sold them and hence this room was now empty.

Evelyn’s eyes were red and swollen. The most visible thing was their blankness.

Now there was no brightness and liveliness in them that she had carried when she had entered this same house three years ago.

Her dress was covered with blood imprints and her shoes were still red because of the blood. There were some imprints of fingers on her cheek as if she had been beaten.

"Evelyn..."

Her body started to tremble fiercely when she heard the whisper of her name. She didn’t even dare to look towards the figure in another corner. Her eyes stayed blank as she stared at her knees and her hands clutched her dress tightly.

Oliver’s body which was covered with blood and stabbed wounds continued to flash in front of her eyes.

Her body started to tremble more when she heard the rustling sounds from the same corner. Her mind screamed at her to run away when she saw a figure coming closer to her but her body stayed unmoving.

Where could she even run? There was nowhere for her to run.

When she saw the figure kneeling down in front of her, Evelyn clutched her knees more tightly and tried to shrink herself more if it was possible.

"Are you angry with me, Evelyn? ...I wouldn’t have done so but after seeing how you avoided my touch but you would smile for Oliver...I couldn’t stop myself."

She couldn’t believe how he was still able to explain himself. How could there be an explanation behind doing something like this!

Fortunately or perhaps unfortunately, the door of the room opened just at that moment.

Pale-faced Gianna stepped inside the room. She was no longer that gentle woman who Evelyn had seen three years ago and had been seeing all along after that.

Her eyes were red, swollen and there was craziness and anger in them. Her hair was not combed at all. Without any hesitation, she sprinted towards Evelyn and grabbed her by her collar as she shouted loudly.

"I brought you here to take care of Oliver. What did you do, huh? Tell me what happened. Tell me how my son...Tell me how... my Oliver..."

Gianna couldn’t even say those words.

Apparently when Evelyn was deciding to bring a doctor for the already dead, Oliver... Arthur had cleaned the knife he had used. He had put it back inside the kitchen.

He had cleaned himself and then stepped out only to see Gianna beating Evelyn. Hence, when he tried to protect her, both of them were dragged to this room and locked there.

Tears continued to stream down her eyes as Gianna continued to shake Evelyn’s body more and more. Once more, she slapped Evelyn angrily and then raised her leg to kick her.

Evelyn curled up her body because of the pain in her stomach. Her face was pale and her forehead started to cover with sweat.

Her eyes slightly wide stared at Gianna who was raising her leg again to kick her. She couldn’t believe for a few moments that this was the same woman she had called Mother for three years. But then Evelyn thought that Gianna’s anger was reasonable.

Oliver died...Oliver died because of her. If she had obeyed Arthur, if she had not avoided him, Oliver would have been alive.

She should have been obedient when Arthur wanted to touch her. Thinking this, Evelyn prepared herself for another painful kick.

But the long-awaited kick never came. Instead, Gianna was pushed down to the floor as Arthur stared at her coldly and said

"She didn’t do anything. She was in fact going to call the doctor when she opened the door and you appeared. He fell down from the roof and died."

Gianna stared at Arthur for a few moments and covered her face as she sobbed loudly.

"My Oliver... My son..."

Cooper who was searching for his wife all around the house finally came there and held his wife. His eyes were also red and the grief of losing a son could clearly be seen on his face. As he held Gianna and tried to comfort her, his eyes went to Arthur and Evelyn who was lying on the floor.

They were slightly cold for some time.

He had gone to clean his son’s body so that it could be buried. But while removing the clothes, he had seen wounds on his body which make it look as if he had been stabbed many times in his stomach.

Before Oliver’s body was covered with blood all over and he couldn’t see those wounds. He had also thought that Oliver died after falling down from the roof as Arthur had claimed when Gianna was beating Evelyn. But now....it didn’t seem so.

Cooper’s eyes were filled with anguish when he thought this but he didn’t dare to tell this Gianna.

He held Gianna firmly and picked her from the ground.

"Gianna, we need to prepare for the funeral."

Cooper’s voice shook when he said these words and Gianna’s cry went louder because of what he said.

Somehow Cooper took her away from there but he forgot to lock the door again...which was a huge mistake on his part.

Arthur saw the door wide open and his eyes flashed. He immediately turned around to look at Evelyn. Seeing her still holding her stomach, his eyes softened and he said

"Are you still in pain?"

He asked as he tried to touch her arm but Evelyn cowered away. Arthur’s eyes immediately went cold and he smiled as he said

"You still wouldn’t learn, Evelyn? I would never harm you but if you continued to behave like this...the people around you love dearly would not stay safe."

Evelyn’s body trembled at his words. The next moment, Arthur held his arm in a firm grip and made her stand.

Evelyn almost whimpered because of the pain but Arthur continued to drag her outside the room.
