Chapter 297: Letting It Out (3)

0% The residence where Aether was staying was only a two-room house.

A large place for one person, but modest for a high-ranking official with the title of Minister of Magic.

Having spent her youth in a big mansion, it felt cramped to Klais. She thought the elves were keeping Aether in check even in the personal things. Perhaps providing an awkward-sized house like this was a sign of sorts–a sign that they would discard her after they were done with her.

Apart from that, the owner herself didn’t seem to be bothered.

Rather, she seemed to be satisfied. Aether was looking pleasant from the moment she opened the front door, like a commoner who had never lived in a house like this before.

That part triggered her guilt.

Klais barely managed to move her mouth that had clamped shut.

“......Excuse me.”

She scanned the floor while arranging her shoes.

There were only two pairs of shoes including hers.

Meaning, it was just her and Aether in this house right now.

This kind of environment....... might be fine.

Feeling inwardly relieved, she moved her feet.

After passing through a long, narrow hallway, the living room appeared. There was a sink to one side, and the windows and a large wardrobe on the opposite side.

Next to the wardrobe was a small refrigerator and dresser, and lastly, a round, lacquered wooden table sat in the middle of the living room.

“Please wait a moment.”

While Aether pulled out drinks and snacks from the fridge, Klais took a peek at the inner room.

She could see there was one slightly large bed.

It’s confirmed.

Aether was living alone.

Her pounding hard finally calmed down.

As she was taking a look around, Klais looked at the wardrobe and made a comment.

“That’s quite a big wardrobe for one person.”

Whip.

Aether, who had been about to pull out two bottles of liquor from the fridge, turned around reflexively.

Gold eyes glaring like a blazing sun. It was a gaze filled with unusual energy.

The moment their eyes met, her heart dropped.

...Have I, said something wrong?

–was the thought that occurred to her.

It might be different for Klais who was disinterested in fashion because of her obsession with studying magic, but high nobles easily used wardrobes that were bigger than that.

And Aether would be well aware of that fact.

What if her words had come across as rude? What if she saw her attitude as oppressive? Feeling anxious, she became self-conscious.

Klais’ gaze flicked towards Aether.

“Yes, the old owner seems to have brought in a big one.”

Thank goodness.

She didn’t seem to think much of it.

The thought that it could be a poker face flashed by, but she decided she was overreacting and dismissed it.

“Don’t just stand there, please sit.”

Thankfully, her first words went over without a problem.

Fidgeting, Klais took a seat.

Tempura, sashimi... one by one, snacks were set on the table. There were also refreshments for light enjoyment.

The dishes that were provided weren’t simply just snacks, but they looked appetizing on their own.

While Klais was reeling from the table full of delicious foods–

“Do you know what this is?”

Aether asked as she showed her a bottle of liquor.

“Isn’t it whiskey?”

“It is, brewed directly at the Saliere estate. It’s from an acquaintance, and I can guarantee its quality.”

Saliere liquor. Even Klais, who didn’t know much about alcohol, heard of it. It was quite famous, wasn’t it.

She had never tried it, of course, and didn’t even know if it was hard liquor or not. She was going to ask how much alcohol content it had, but there wasn’t even a label.

“I heard that it isn’t that strong, so even if we get drunk, it’ll probably be in moderation....”

“Are you a strong drinker?”

Instead of replying, Aether chuckled.

“Have a glass first.”

Aether personally poured her a glass of whiskey on-the-rocks.

The color was blackish red like the blood of a Beast.

A sweet yet sharp aroma tickled her nose, and that alone seemed to make her lose her senses.

I can’t be like this.

She couldn’t believe she was getting drunk off the scent alone; this just made her a complete child.

At least one glass.

She had to stay sober until she fully emptied one glass; that was her goal for today.

At this point, she didn’t know what she would talk about with Aether. They could have a heart-to-heart, or they might just drink and that would be it.

It would all depend on how Klais herself behaved.

“Please, eat.”

“Th-thank you for the food.”

Klais hesitantly moved her fork.

After seeing that Aether took something first, she also picked up a piece of fried chicken and popped it in her mouth.

“...Ah.”

It was delicious.

Juice burst through the sweet and salty flavor surrounding her tongue.

Once, twice, three times. With each chew, there was a flash of ecstasy.

And whatever she did to keep it warm, the fried food wasn’t just warm but almost hot. She rolled her tongue and blew hot air. It was as if she was eating food that was made on the spot at a food cart on the streets.

The fried chicken was a perfect combination of sweet and salty. If it became a bit salty, the sweetness tickled her tongue, and when it seemed sweet, the saltiness would hit.

Perhaps that was why; she needed another kind of balance.

Craving a drink all of a sudden, Klais brought the glass to her mouth and slowly worked her throat.

“......!”

A slightly tart yet moist sensation, like grapes.

Yet it also felt clean and refreshing like drinking ale. And that sensation created the perfect synergy with the fried chicken she just had.

A warm, gentle feeling like she had just come out of a hot shower filled her stomach, and she craved more of it.

So one sip, two sips, three sips–

“Haaa....”

She popped in another piece and emptied her glass. Her head felt like it was buzzing.

She already reached her limit.

She had to stop here, otherwise she’d turn into an animal if she kept drinking. Her fading reason desperately kept her eyes open.

However.

“Would you like another glass?”

“Yesh....”

Saliere liquor wasn’t your regular delicious wine. Unlike other wines, it had a gentle and cozy flavor that even weak drinkers could gulp down.

Yet at the same time, it also seemed to be something strong.

Whatever. She couldn’t stop like she was drinking seawater. Klais decided that it didn’t matter anymore.

There was a feast laid out before her; it wouldn’t be respectful to the food if she didn’t enjoy it as accompaniment with wine.

And with that trivial thought, her thinking poofed.

**
“Whoa, whoa...!”

Inside the wardrobe.

Freyr was watching what was happening outside play out in real time as she drank 40% whiskey.

It was as exciting like watching a soccer match.

“Is that really the Miss Hasfeldt we knew?”

“Shh, be quiet...!”

Lotte brought her pointer to her mouth and silenced Freyr.

But although she said that, Lotte also was incapable of keeping herself on mute.

- Let me pour you a glass, Master. Hehe.......

  • Alriiight.

Klais picked up the liquor bottle and filled Aether’s glass until it overflowed. And Aether was drinking it without thinking.

    It was clear–they were drunk.

They had both gotten drunk simultaneously as a pair so neither was in a state to stop the other.

    - Masteeer, I was wrong. I’m truly sorry for that time, so please punish me. If you don’t, I can’t go on living....

Squirming, Klais shuffled over to Aether, the aforementioned bottle of liquor in her right hand. Klais put her mouth on the opening of the bottle, then just tilted her head straight back.

    “......!”

    “Wow, she’s one-shotting that...!”

“As if you’re one to talk, Freyr...”

To think that she’d throw back whiskey that would make even the most seasoned drinkers stumble in one go. It wasn’t something that a beginner drinker should do.

    - Please use Klais as you will....

  • Alright, come here. III’ll do as you ask.

    Lotte and Freyr breathed sharply.

Klais began taking off her clothes, then lay down on the floor in just her tank top. Her blushing neck was sensual.

And even after seeing this, Aether got up from her seat as if unperturbed.

    Thunk, thunk.

Lotte and Freyr had to hold their breaths as footsteps rang out.

    “Hey, isn’t this dangerous...?”

It was already nearly two hours since they entered the closet, and Lotte was beginning to regret it.

Klais Hasfeldt was weak to alcohol, and this was something that everyone knew. Even Lotte  had heard about it.

And so she had been curious as to how Miss Hasfeldt would act if she got drunk.

But it wasn’t like they could all get together and have a drinking party. After all, the only ones who had made plans were Aether and Klais.

So that was why. Even while she thought it was rather rude, she chose to hide in the closet. Then wouldn’t she be able to listen in on the conversation without disturbing them?

She had a duty to hear that conversation, since Aether had once suffered because of Miss Hasfeldt.

Lotte hoped that their relationship would advance through this drinking session, wishing for a happy ending like it had been for her and Aether.

    But.

Something has gone wrong, very wrong.

Lotte watched the rest of the situation while taking sips of whiskey.

    - Nooow, let’s research.

  • Here...?

  • Are you saying you won’t follow your master’s orders?

  • I-I will! Please let me follow them...!

What am I seeing right now?

Surprisingly, there weren’t any erotic scenes or anything, but there wasn’t any honest conversation happening, either.

Well, there was some kind of exchange. Klais had apologized to Aether where Lotte could see, at least.

However, there was something weird about their drunken behavior.

The two drunks both lay down next to each other on the floor, then opened a book on magic and began discussing.

    - Do you get it? If we don’t make this in two months, we’re doomed. Can you do it or nooot?

  • I can do it. I will. Please let me do it...!

  • Guuud. If you want to apologize, you better work haaard.

Lotte and Freyr couldn’t shut their mouths which had fallen open.

    “.......”

    “.......”

Now they didn’t know what was what.

“...Hey, I wanna go to the washroom.”

“We’ll be seen if you go out now.”

“They’re both like that, so they won’t remember even if I leave anywa... Ahhh......!”

Freyr stuck her forward in surprise.

Aether took an expensive-looking wine from the fridge and popped the cork. If they drank that as well, the two of them would be having over five bottles.

Freyr finished off the rest of the bottle and let out a small shout.

“The finest 21-year-old grape juice I was saving for myself......!”

I was going to dip a biscotti in it every night! she didn’t get to say, because Lotte silenced her as she was getting loud.

    “Mmph, umph! Mmmph─!!”

“I can get you a new one later...!”

It wasn’t the easiest task to calm Freyr who was serious about alcohol. Still, the other two seemed to be very drunk as they didn’t care about the closet at all.

And so the hour passed midnight...

And the two of them were so wasted that it was too embarrassing to put into words.

“I think it’s coming to an end.”

    “Mmmph!!”

Both Aether and Klais were now ruined to the point that they could be called zombies.

Klais laid her head on Aether’s thigh with her eyes rolled back, then she fell fast asleep as is.

Aether’s pupils were also blurry and out of focus. The drowsy mess of a Golden-Eyed girl barely held it together and mumbled something.

At first she seemed to be reciting a magical formula, but it wasn’t.

    - Even if I die, it’s okay to have a drink, riiiight?

Lotte just couldn’t let that pass.
