Chapter 651: Chapter 640: Shocking Revelation

Manbao immediately asked, "Is it the wall on the west side of the Book Collection Tower?"

Wei Chen was stunned and asked, "How do you know? It’s the place I got from my senior schoolmates through connections just last month."

Manbao chuckled and said, "I know a lot more."

Wei Chen then looked at Bai Shan, "You’re this good? I don’t see you hanging out with anyone; how did you find out?"

Bai Erlang rolled his eyes and said, "Stop guessing; it was our teacher who told them all this."

Wei Chen stared wide-eyed in shock, "Your teacher even told you these things?"

Manbao just snickered, "Our teacher also said that one of the windows in your academy’s Book Collection Tower is loose and can be opened from inside."

Bai Shan nodded, "I checked it out today, and it is indeed loose and can be opened."

The two of them looked at Wei Chen together.

Wei Chen looked back at them, completely baffled, "What?"

Bai Shan put an arm around his shoulder and smiled, "When the time comes, we’ll all play together."

Bai Erlang’s eyes whirled with excitement, "I want in too."

Wei Chen had a look of confusion and unease, but he nodded anyway, "Aren’t we already playing together right now?"

The three who were supposed to be reading and reciting books had been playing by the riverside for quite a while with the addition of Wei Chen before they remembered to flip through their books.

Seeing their diligence, Wei Chen said, "You really can endure. You even find time to recite after school."

Bai Shan curiously looked at him, "Don’t the teachers at the academy assign you homework as well? Have you finished writing it and memorizing it?"

Wei Chen: "...I, I’ll take my time; it’s not like they’ll pick on me."

Bai Shan was momentarily speechless before asking, "Can you also skip the written homework?"

"You can copy it. Just get there a little early in the morning and that should be enough."

Bai Shan patted him on the shoulder and then said to Manbao, "I think we don’t even need to go through the window; borrowing his entry plaque would work."

"No way, I must climb in through the window," Manbao thought for a moment and said, "I can borrow the plaque later." In any case, she was set on climbing through the window.

She was particularly curious about climbing through the window of the academy’s Book Collection Tower and really wanted to experience it.

At this point, Wei Chen found it hard to persuade himself he hadn’t understood them properly. He shook off Bai Shan’s arm and jumped up to distance himself from them, "You’re crazy!"

Bai Shan was startled and almost fell to the ground, "What are you afraid of?"

"Afraid? Afraid of what?" Wei Chen pointed at Manbao, "She, she, she is an outsider, and a girl at that; how can she enter the Book Collection Tower?"

Bai Shan was a bit upset and said, "There is nothing in the school rules or the regulations of the Book Collection Tower that says bringing outsiders or women into the academy or the Book Collection Tower would lead to what consequences. Even if it comes out in the end and I am punished, what does it matter?"

Manbao nodded, "It’s just copying books; we do it all the time. I’ll help him with it then."

Wei Chen hardly ever looked at his textbooks, let alone such things as school rules. Yet, in his mind, this seemed to be a serious matter. Seeing their nonchalant attitude, he couldn’t help but become puzzled, "Is the punishment that light?"

Bai Shan nodded and said, "Yesterday and today, we thoroughly went over the school rules."

Only then did Wei Chen squat back down with them, "But don’t forget, the school official hates you. If he catches you, it might not be as simple as copying books, right?"

Bai Shan nonchalantly replied, "I’m moving to Class Jia three tomorrow; he’s not a school official in the monitoring department, so how can he rule over me? And there’s Mr. Zhai."

Only then did Wei Chen remember the reason he snuck out today. He punched Bai Shan’s shoulder, "Look at you, why did you move to Class Jia three without making any fuss?"

Bai Shan snorted and said, "Who says I was quiet about it? Didn’t you see how hard I studied before the mid-year exam? I almost didn’t even have time for the bathroom."

Manbao and Bai Erlang nodded vigorously in agreement.

"Mr. Zhai promised me. He said as long as I made it into the top sixty in the mid-year exams, he would move me to Class Jia three." He explained the reasons for his transfer.

Wei Chen exclaimed, "You’re really lucky to have made it to exactly the sixtieth spot."

Manbao nodded too, "Just like last time when you hit the one hundred and fiftieth spot right on the nose. Hahaha..."

Wei Chen and Bai Erlang also couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

Bai Shan huffed and turned away, ignoring them.

As evening approached, they all headed home. Bai Shan said to Bai Erlang, "You’re done for, you didn’t memorize the text."

Bai Erlang’s spine stiffened as he asked, "Have you and Manbao memorized it?"

Bai Shan said, "I don’t know about her, but I’ve got it memorized. I’ll read it through a couple more times later. Even if it’s not perfect, I’ll be able to recite it."

Manbao was walking ahead, building rapport with Wei Chen, hoping to borrow his entry plaque in the future. Bai Erlang glanced at her back, feeling a bit like crying, thinking that since Bai Shan was almost ready, she surely must be close too.

Even though they had guests over, Mr. Zhuang still had them recite their books in the evening and checked their homework, teaching them a new section each.

However, having guests also had its perks. Bai Erlang hadn’t memorized all of his book and stumbled while explaining it when tested, but Mr. Zhuang didn’t punish him nor scold him harshly; he just lectured him, which relieved Bai Erlang tremendously.

It was already dark, and since Wei Chen had sneaked out, of course, he couldn’t possibly return to the academy at this time. Therefore, he stayed the night with Bai Shan and the others.

Mr. Zhuang obviously noticed that Wei Chen had skipped school, but he didn’t say anything. When it was time to sleep, he sent them to get ready for bed.

Manbao continued to the study room to learn medical books and discuss medicine with Teacher Mo, while Wei Chen talked with Bai Shan and Bai Erlang for half the night. The next day, everyone woke up feeling drowsy and struggled to get out of bed.

Wei Chen adamantly refused to take the blame. He complained, looking at Daji, "It’s your young master who kept talking non-stop, talking our ears off. He’s the one who’s too excited."

Bai Erlang nodded, bearing witness.

Several times last night, he and Wei Chen were about to fall asleep, but Bai Shan kept talking to them. They couldn’t resist and talked on and on until they went to bed late.

Manbao despised them, "You can’t even hold out. If he talks, let him talk. You could just close your eyes and sleep."

Bai Erlang retorted angrily, "Do you think everyone can fall asleep the moment they close their eyes like you do?"

Wei Chen stared at her in amazement, "She’s that good?"

"Yes, when we were kids and worked in the fields, at lunchtime, she would rest in the shed. With her hat over her eyes, her head would loll, and she’d be asleep immediately. No one could wake her up."

Manbao smirked proudly.

Wei Chen clapped his hands in awe, "That’s impressive. If I had that skill, I wouldn’t feel sleep-deprived every day."

After Bai Shan washed up, he said to him, "If you don’t wash up now, we are going to be late. By the way, since you didn’t bring a book basket, can you sneak in? Do you want me to lend you an empty one?"
