Chapter 1190: Chapter 1169: A Kick
Manbao was about to speak when Fu Wenyun already softly said, "She is my good friend, coming to check on me. Do you have any objections?"
Fu Wenhua muttered a few words but didn’t say anything more.
Nanny Fu by the side hesitated to speak.
Fu Wenyun had already asked, "How many people did you bring with you to the capital?"
"Only Butler Xu and Feng Shu," Fu Wenhua answered. "Father said we would stay in the capital for just ten or twenty days, not for long, so there was no need to bring too many people."
Feng Shu was Fu Wenhua’s manservant, only two years older than him, and had served as his page boy since childhood.
Fu Wenyun nodded, then turned to Nanny Fu, saying, "Go and tell Eldest Master Yue to add another bed in his study, let Wen Hua stay with him, and arrange for Butler Xu and Feng Shu in the front courtyard."
Nanny Fu agreed.
Seeing that she didn’t intend to inform the household, Manbao raised her eyebrows slightly, stood up, and said, "Second Sister Fu, you and your brother have been reunited after a long time, and must have a lot to talk about. I’ll go back now and come to see you again tomorrow."
"Alright," Fu Wenyun held her hand, and with a wink said, "Thank you for visiting me."
Manbao signaled her understanding, turned around and put the needle pouch back into the medicine chest. When Fu Wenhua saw this, he paused and asked, "What is that?"
Manbao gave him a look as if he was dim-witted and didn’t respond.
Fu Wenhua: ...
Impatiently, Fu Wenhua said, "I know it’s a medicine chest. Did you bring a medicine chest to see my sister?"
Carrying the medicine chest, Manbao laughed and said, "What do you think?"
Fu Wenyun couldn’t help but give Manbao a light slap and scolded teasingly, "Get going, you."
Laughing, Manbao turned and walked away.
Nanny Fu was still waiting outside the door and, as soon as she came out, called out loudly, "Miss Man, does our Madam’s medicine need changing?"
Manbao replied loudly, "Yes, I will write a new prescription for you in a while, you can go ahead, I will hand the prescription to Eldest Master Yue—oh, is this Eldest Master Yue here? Shall we discuss the prescription?"
Fu Wenhua inside the room heard everything loud and clear.
Fu Wenyun: ...
Yue Dalang, who was standing not far beneath the window: ...
Fu Wenhua looked toward the Second Miss lying on the bed and asked, "Second Sister, are you sick?"
Fu Wenyun replied, "I gave birth to a child yesterday, my body is somewhat weakened, so I need to see a doctor and take medicine."
Fu Wenhua was not foolish; if it was just seeing a doctor and taking medicine as usual, why would Nanny Fu need to specifically announce it loudly to him?
He turned his head to look at Qiuyue.
Qiuyue, holding the child, avoided his gaze. With just one glance, Fu Wenhua knew there was a problem. He stood up and ran out, causing Fu Wenyun to call out anxiously.
As Fu Wenhua dashed out of the room, he saw his brother-in-law standing under the window, all ears. Upon seeing him rush out, Yue Dalang swiftly straightened up and, after a light cough, smiled and said, "Wen Hua, the study has been tidied up by the servants. How about we brothers have a good talk tonight?"
Fu Wenhua kept a stern face as he glanced at him, and seeing that Zhou Man and Nanny Fu were no longer in the courtyard, he asked, "Brother-in-law, I’ve been here for quite some time. The father-in-law isn’t present, but why is the mother-in-law nowhere to be seen? Doesn’t your family’s residence only have two courtyards?"
Yue Dalang replied somewhat awkwardly, "My mother is old and a bit weary. She’s probably taking a nap right now."
Fu Wenhua nodded with a grim face, "Indeed, it’s inappropriate to disturb the elders. I’ll just stroll around the front courtyard."
Having said that, he started running toward the front courtyard.
Yue Dalang’s eyes widened, and he reached out, calling, "Third brother, Wenhua, slow down..."
Manbao was writing a prescription in the front hall and saw Nanny Fu peering out, so he shook his head with a smile.
Bai Shan was sitting on the side, drinking tea. He put down his teacup, glanced outside, and chuckled, "What’s the matter, is Second Miss Fu reluctant to bother her natal family?"
Manbao put down the pen, blew the ink dry, and smiled, "Second Sister Fu can only lie in bed now, and while the residence is this size, it houses so many people, how could it possibly be kept secret?"
"Indeed," Nanny Fu, seeing that the young master hadn’t arrived yet, turned around and clapped her hands, saying, "But our Second Miss is stubborn, refusing to let the young master intervene, alas."
Manbao, however, disagreed. He lifted his eyelids to glance at Nanny Fu, then looked around, and noticing no one else was in the front hall, he leaned in and whispered to Nanny Fu, "Even if Second Sister Fu agrees, it’s best not to speak of it openly. And you, don’t make it too obvious. Just drop subtle hints. Otherwise, it will be hard for Second Sister Fu to settle things later."
Still somewhat puzzled, Nanny Fu heard footsteps clattering outside. Fu Wenhua ran out from the back courtyard, and upon raising his head to see them, was about to come over when suddenly, a loud crash of broken porcelain came from a nearby small room.
Fu Wenhua instinctively stopped in his tracks, turning back to look, as everyone else turned their heads as well.
They saw a robust middle-aged man bursting out of the room with fury in his eyes. Upon spotting Fu Wenhua, he rushed over and grabbed him, saying, "Young master, Auntie, the Second Auntie has been greatly wronged!"
Fu Wenhua was stunned for a moment before he realized that ’Auntie’ referred to his second sister. He stared with widened eyes and asked, "What wrong has my second sister faced?"
"Wenhua..." Yue Dalang chased after him from the back courtyard.
The middle-aged man glanced at Yue Dalang, his anger barely concealed, and said, "Young master, I was just fixing feed for our horses when I heard the neighbors talking about the Yue family’s news. Only then did I learn that yesterday, when the Second Auntie was giving birth, it was a difficult labor. Old Madam Yue, however, refused to call for a doctor and insisted on having the midwife perform a cesarean to save the child, clearly showing she preferred the child over the Second Auntie."
Yue Dalang’s expression changed as the man’s words hit their mark. He quickly tried to interrupt, "Steward Xu, that’s just idle gossip from the neighbors, it’s not true..."
"I too thought that and didn’t dare to believe it right away, so I secretly inquired with the Yue family’s servants and found out it’s absolutely true. Young master, the Second Auntie has been greatly wronged."
Fu Wenhua’s face looked extremely grim as he turned and glared at Yue Dalang.
Yue Dalang hastily said, "Ah, ah, third brother, this is all a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding! Mother didn’t mean that, it’s just that your second sister’s childbirth was difficult, the baby was in a transverse lie, and by that time she had already fainted. Mother was left with no choice but to consider that method...don’t believe me? Ask this doctor."
Yue Dalang pointed at Manbao.
He shouldn’t have pointed at Manbao. The moment he did, Fu Wenhua became even more furious. He pointed at Zhou Man and asked Yue Dalang, "What do you call her?"
Yue Dalang was startled and replied, "The doctor."
Fu Wenhua: "The doctor?"
Yue Dalang nodded dumbfounded, "Yes, she’s the doctor who delivered for your sister, heard she’s also an old friend of your sister..."
Fu Wenhua’s eyebrows knitted together, and without waiting for Yue Dalang to finish speaking, he immediately kicked him in the stomach, cursing, "Damn your doctor—"
Caught off-guard, Yue Dalang received a painful and vicious kick, stumbled back three steps, and sat down on the ground. Fu Wenhua rushed over and pinned him down, beginning to beat him and raging, "Doctor, doctor, you don’t even recognize my sister’s best friend, where the hell were you yesterday? Damn your doctor—"
