Chapter 1055: Chapter 134 Awakening

The freshly dropped human blood slowly spread out, mingling with the two types of blood in the basin without merging together.

Upon seeing this, Old Madam Su breathed a sigh of relief and smiled, "It didn’t blend, it didn’t blend."

Manbao, however, started to ponder, "What if we add a little salt?"

Bai Shan replied, "And perhaps we should try adding a little vinegar on the other side?"

Manbao nodded eagerly, "Mm-hmm, let’s try both. Go get the salt and vinegar."

Old Madam Su was confused, "Why should we add vinegar and salt to it?"

Bai Shan glanced at Manbao and said, "I remember you once said that water can be acidic or alkaline, and that salt can be added to an alkaline solution."

Manbao nodded repeatedly, "That’s right, so we’re going to add a bit of salt or vinegar to test it."

Old Madam Su glanced at the maid, and servants were sent to fetch what was needed.

After their tinkering, adding salt and vinegar, if it wasn’t for only two drops of blood diffusing in the basin, Old Madam Su would have almost thought they were cooking.

After the meddling, the blood in one basin began to slowly blend with each other.

The onlookers all opened their mouths in amazement.

Manbao was quite satisfied and took out a pen to record, "How much vinegar did we just pour in?"

Bai Shan: "Twenty-one drops."

"It’s been a while since then, and I don’t know how long it would take for the two types of blood to merge if vinegar had been added right from the start."

Bai Shan saw Xiaos standing by the door, looking out towards them, and said, "We’ll try again later."

He signaled Manbao to check on the Xiaos.

Manbao turned her head to look, handed her pen to Bai Shan, and after excusing herself to Old Madam Su, she went inside to check on the patient.

Old Madam Su and Third Madam also got up and walked to the door.

Bai Shan glanced at them and carefully recorded the details of their experiment.

The Xiaos led Manbao inside and whispered, "I feel like Third Master is getting hotter."

Manbao reached out to touch his forehead before taking his pulse.

After thinking for a moment, she said, "Bring my medicine basket in, I will give him an acupuncture treatment."

Xiaos hurried to fetch the items.

After administering the acupuncture to Su Jian, his fever did not subside, but it didn’t rise further either. Manbao prescribed a medicine and then thought better of it, saying, "Go and fetch the physicians, no matter who; just call someone to check on the prescription."

The one who came was Imperial Doctor Zheng, who had just gone to sleep not long ago. He felt Su Jian’s pulse and looked at the prescription Manbao had made. After changing two drug names, he asked, "What do you think, Young Doctor Zhou?"

Manbao looked it over; it was milder than what she prescribed and indeed better for Su Jian, so she nodded her head in agreement.

Imperial Doctor Zheng handed the prescription to Xiaos, "Go get the medicine and prepare it."

Carefully, they administered the medicine and after covering him for half an hour, the patient began to sweat, and his fever started to drop.

Manbao felt the temperature and nodded with satisfaction, "A low fever, not severe. That will do, have him drink more water."

The drowsy Imperial Doctor Zheng beside her nodded vaguely, propping up his chin to continue sleeping.

Manbao went out to convey the good news to Old Madam Su and the whole Su Family heaved a sigh of relief.

Seeing them so tense, Manbao said, "Old Madam Su, you can’t go on like this. He will probably have recurrent fevers over the next few days, and if you all keep so tense, I’m afraid you’ll fall ill before he recovers."

Old Madam Su sighed, "A parent’s heart can’t be controlled."

Manbao looked at them with sympathy.

Seizing the moment, Old Madam Su asked, "Young Doctor Zhou, may I know how my son is...?"

"The fever has subsided, he’s fine."

Just as Manbao was about to go back to check on the basin of water, a sudden cry of alarm came from the attending Xiaosi, who then ran out and announced, "Old Madam, Young Doctor Zhou, Third Master has awakened!"

Upon hearing this, everyone’s eyes lit up, and they immediately rushed toward the room.

Manbao quickly blocked the people behind her, "It’s enough for just two or three people to go in..."

Heeding her words, only Old Madam Su and Third Madam entered.

Su Jian slowly opened his eyes in a daze, and when his vision cleared, he was met with the haggard face of a man with unkempt beard. He recoiled in shock but then realized there was a bed behind him and he couldn’t move back.

Imperial Doctor Zheng, who had moved closer to examine him, became delighted, "He’s awake, awake indeed, his gaze is clear, he seems to have no issues."

Manbao squeezed in from behind him, nudging him slightly to the side, and seeing the blank look on Su Jian’s face, she waved a finger in front of his eyes and asked, "Do you know how many fingers this is?"

Su Jian: "...One finger."

Manbao nodded in satisfaction, "Indeed, he is lucid. Seems he really hasn’t injured his head."

Both doctors nodded in satisfaction, "Fortunate indeed, very fortunate."

Falls from horses, brawls, and such, they always feared head injuries the most.

Even though Manbao had experience conducting craniotomies on mannequin models, she wasn’t too keen on performing real brain surgery, though her hands itched at the thought. She felt that in this world, no one would let her perform such a surgery, and if it ever came to that, the patient would likely be in a far more serious condition than the current one.

After both doctors had taken turns examining Su Jian and asked several more questions to confirm he had no other serious problems, they stepped back to allow Old Madam Su and Third Madam to come forward and talk to him.

Old Madam Su sat by the bed, holding her youngest son’s hand and began to cry, as did Third Madam standing at the bedside.

Su Jian, unsettled by their tears, weakly consoled, "Mother, am I not fine?"

"You fine? Your leg is broken, and for your rescue, they even had to cut open your stomach. You almost couldn’t be saved, you know that?"

Su Jian was stunned. He understood about the broken leg, but... "What do you mean my stomach was cut open?"

He faintly tried to reach for his stomach, only then realizing it hurt. His stomach hurt, his back hurt, his leg hurt, he ached all over.

Manbao, glancing over, warned, "Though it’s bandaged, it’s best not to touch with your hands; they’re dirty and it can cause infection."

Third Madam swiftly grabbed his other hand and also seated herself on the bed.

With both hands held, one by his mother and one by his wife, Su Jian couldn’t move at all. He could only widen his eyes to look at the standing Imperial Doctor and the little girl who was a complete stranger to him.

"Sanlang is awake?" The Crown Prince rushed in with swift steps. Imperial Doctor Zheng immediately pulled Manbao to the side to make room, and they both deeply bowed in a salute.

Manbao turned to nod at the Crown Prince and added a word, "He is awake."

The Crown Prince waved Imperial Doctor Zheng away, unconcerned about Manbao’s lack of a curtsy, and leaned in to look at Su Jian.

Old Madam Su and Third Madam had already swiftly risen and stepped aside to give their respects.

The Crown Prince hastened to assist Old Madam Su and kindly told Third Madam there was no need for formalities. Only then did he sit down by the bed to observe Su Jian. "Your sister wanted to come to see you, but I stopped her. How are you feeling now?"

"Is my sister’s health any better?" Su Jian said, "Let her recuperate properly, better not to come. Aren’t these imperial physicians here?"

"Right, did they catch that kid Du Yu?" Su Jian asked through clenched teeth, "That boy is too sly, he actually ambushed me."
