Chapter 78: Confirming Item Selection, And a Distant Dream

"Oho?" Arius raised a brow. "Those are some interesting choices, especially you, Mathieu. You stuck to your ideals. I’m proud of you."

It seemed like Mathieu had picked out some sort of monocle, which had a slight crack in the glass.

But since it was an item in the Vault, that meant it was valuable, and clearly, from the headmaster’s reaction, it was even better than Raelis thought.

"The Monocle of Truth. You can tell whenever someone is lying with 100% accuracy. Since you plan to become a merchant, you won’t be getting fooled anymore. But do swing by my office later. I will fix the glass for you. Apologies," Arius said sincerely.

A faint smile appeared on Mathieu’s face as he nodded. "Thank you, Headmaster."

With that, the headmaster moved on to Clea, who had made some questionable choices.

"An Adamantium whetstone and a never-ending flask of water...?" Arius muttered, his brows twitching. "I can understand your need for both, but... you can extract water from anything. And a whetstone? Just get a perfectly sharp weapon instead."

Despite the headmaster’s insistence, Clea remained firm.

"I have a use for both of those items," she stated. "And no, I looked through everything in this vault. It’s clear this isn’t the actual Vault."

Hearing that, the headmaster let out a chuckle.

"So two of you have figured it out, eh? Hahaha! Interesting," Arius muttered. "But as I said to Raelis, your achievements are nowhere near enough to get you into the inner Vault."

He gave Raelis a side glance, then nodded at Clea.

"Anyhow, I respect your decision, Clea Valentine. Just don’t regret it later."

"I won’t."

With that, Raelis was now the last person the headmaster had to address.

"Raelis Varekan... you got yourself an interesting pair of daggers, I’ll tell you that much," Arius said vaguely. "They can cut through any metal, and they’re said to prevent any kind of healing."

A faint smirk appeared on his face. "So if you were to fight a demon, it wouldn’t be able to regenerate from your attacks. Albeit, the effect only lasts a few minutes. After that, you’re screwed."

Raelis’s eyes widened at the explanation. Yet he felt like that still wasn’t all.

"Those daggers are covered in ancient rust. Frankly, I have no clue how to get it off. Neither does anyone else, but if you figure it out, then I’m sure you’ll get something incredibly valuable," Arius added, and just like that, he snapped his fingers, teleporting them all out of the Vault.

They appeared in front of their dormitories and then got a pat on the back from the headmaster.

"You three stink. Take a bath and go to class. Your materials will be at your desks, and if Julian wasn’t lazy, then he should’ve set up the alchemy stations at each of your desks," Arius said in parting. "I’ll be going now. Mathieu, visit me later."

And just like that, he vanished, leaving Mathieu, Clea, and Raelis alone in the yard.

But they didn’t linger for long, as they all separated and went their own ways.

After entering his dorm room, Raelis stashed away his daggers under his bed and hopped into the shower.

He washed up, changed his clothes, and after making sure all of his items were still in their respective places, Raelis went to class.

The Vitriol Rose was in the same pocket as his Phoenix Egg, and to his surprise, the hatching progress went up slightly.

<Phoenix Egg (Hatching: 20% → 23%)>

Is it just absorbing everything? But it doesn’t look like the effects of the herb itself were affected. Or... maybe they did? It’s too late now anyways.

If the herb had lost its purity, then he wouldn’t use it inside his Phoenix Tear potion.

But if it wasn’t using up the purity, and instead helping his Phoenix Egg hatch, then it was arguably a much better boon than even the potion itself.

Still, he put those thoughts aside as he navigated to the classroom.

The moment he entered it, he noticed that the desks had been replaced with alchemy stations.

They were miniature stations, just big enough for one person to brew. Since they were so easy to set up, they were just as easy to take down and reuse

Raelis hummed in amusement and approached his desk, then sat down.

Since he was feeling a little sleepy and had one more hour to kill, he decided to take a short nap.

But as he was about to close his eyes, he realized his ingredients had gone missing. It happened around the time they were teleported over.

He glanced over at the elevated podium and realized that in small boxes, there were a dozen materials, almost as if the lesson itself didn’t matter and they had a backup ready.

Raelis let out a sigh and closed his eyes.

Well... that’s one way of doing it...

.

.

.

The bell rang, causing Raelis to jolt awake, slightly startled.

It felt like he had a long dream, but no matter how much time had passed, he couldn’t recall it.

Glancing to the side, he spotted Clea. She was staring at him with a slightly worried look, then pointed at his chin.

"You’ve got a drop of ink there... you should wash it off," Clea said, then took out her infinite water flask.

Raelis’s frown deepened as he reached for his chin, wiping it slightly.

To his surprise, there really was ink, and because of that, he went on full alert.

He had just had a dream, he was sure of that. It was long, that was also something he was sure of.

Whatever happened in that dream was a total mystery, but if he had to guess, it was likely related to the being called the Eternal Scribe, the same one that Baron Ingram mentioned right before his death.

Raelis didn’t let his worries show on his face as he accepted Clea’s water flask and cleaned the ink off his face.

And of course, once he put his attention back to the front, he saw Julian had already arrived.

However, there was another individual beside him, one that Raelis wasn’t expecting to see just yet.

His brows furrowed.

Shouldn’t she be in the infirmary?
