THE LOST HEIRESS RETURNS AFTER DIVORCE -
Chapter 124: Lauren’s Arrest
Chapter 124: Lauren’s Arrest
But when the door opened, it wasn’t Evelyn—it was a tall man dressed in a black suit with a silver badge clipped neatly to his belt.
Behind him stood two other plainclothes officers, all carrying the same expression.
"Are you Lauren Remington?" the man asked, his voice low but clear.
Lauren’s heart skipped. Her eyes darted from the man to his companions, and for the first time in a long while, panic prickled beneath her skin.
She had never had visitors like this—people who carried the weight of the law in their very presence. But she straightened her posture, tried to play it cool.
"I... I am. What’s this about?" she asked, forcing a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
The man took a step forward, reaching into his coat pocket. The handcuffs glinted under the office lights as he pulled them out.
"Lauren Remington, you’re under arrest for the murder of Sebastian Hale. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."
Lauren’s face froze in pure shock, her mouth opened but no words coming out. She stared at the cuffs, unable to believe what was happening.
"What? Wait, wait a minute—this is a mistake," Lauren stammered, stepping backward. She never laid her hands on anyone, let alone kill anyone. Where is this coming from?
"I...I didn’t kill anyone! I’m innocent." Hearing the word ’innocent’ leave her lips surprised her; other times the word meant nothing. But this time, she really was innocent.
Evelyn rushed out from her adjoining office at the commotion. "What’s happening here?" she exclaimed, marching toward the officers.
But before she could get too far, the office door swung open wider. Standing just outside was Heather, flanked by several more officers.
Her arms were crossed casually, but her sharp eyes were locked on Lauren. She was speaking quietly to one of the men beside her—their leader, by the looks of it.
By now, the entire building was vibrating. Phones were lighting up, the staff whispering and staring. The news had already gone viral.
# JusticeForSebastian was flooding every social platform. Holly Daily had run with the story hours ago, and now the world was watching. The headlines were brutal: Actress Lauren Remington accused of covering up murder, Sebastian Games death no longer a secret, New evidence links Remington to the crime.
Evelyn’s eyes widened when she saw Heather standing outside. She stormed toward her, her face flushed with rage. "What’s going on? Is this your doing?" she demanded.
The officer beside Heather stepped between them, holding his hand up politely but firmly.
"Mrs. Remington, I suggest you take a step back from Mrs. Thorne. For your own legal protection—it’s in your best interest to avoid conversations that could place you as a witness or risk your credibility during trial proceedings."
Evelyn’s jaw tightened. Her eyes flicked between Heather and the officers, calculating quickly.
What did Heather have on Lauren to get her arrested? How did she manage to fight back the narrative? Lauren had told her she didn’t remember anything, was that all just a game?
Lauren was already being cuffed, her panic turned into fury. She glared at Heather as they secured her wrists behind her back.
"What do you think you’re doing?" Lauren snapped. "I’m innocent! You’ve got the wrong person—I didn’t kill anyone!"
Heather tilted her head slightly, her eyes glinted with quiet satisfaction. "Funny, Lauren. If you’re so innocent, why’d you blame me for everything?"
"That was all a game!" Lauren shouted, her voice cracked. "We were just... It was for fun!"
Heather’s smile faded, her expression darkened.
Threatening her, bullying her, and spreading lies about her was all just for fun?
Lauren was a heartless person, she knew how to take advantage of people’s weakness; but she didn’t think Heather would fight back.
"A death is a game to you? You really are heartless. You deserve every second you spend behind bars. All your lies, all your little schemes—they finally caught up to you."
"I didn’t kill anyone! You’ve arrested the wrong person!"
Heather shrugged. "Trish seemed to have a different opinion on the case."
The color drained from Lauren’s face. "That... that bitch Trish! When I get my hands on her—she’s the one who played you! She suggested we blame it on you! She killed him that night!" Lauren’s screams echoed as the officers began pulling her down the hallway.
Evelyn rushed after them, her voice shook, "My daughter is innocent, Heather! How could you do this to your own family? You don’t have a heart!"
Heather turned to her, an amused smile creeped across her lips. She took a step closer, and lowered her voice so only Evelyn could hear.
"Heartless?" Heather repeated with a cold chuckle. "You should be more worried about your precious family’s position." She leaned in slightly, her eyes gleamed. "When the board hears about this, they won’t tolerate the Remington name attached to the company. Bad press like this? It’s poison for business. You’ll lose your seat at the table, Evelyn. And when that happens, your shares—the same ones keeping your family afloat—will mean nothing."
Evelyn’s face turned pale instantly. Her breath hitched as the truth sank in. No one knew Lionel had risked everything, pouring their last resources into Star H’s investments. So how did Heather know?
Without those shares, they’d be ruined—financially shattered.
Heather’s smile widened as she stepped back. "Get ready for the board’s vote, Evelyn. And brace yourself for the headlines. You’re about to lose everything."
Without waiting for a response, Heather left the building. She walked toward the car waiting for her outside. As she approached, her phone chimed in the pocket of her coat. It was a text from Manager Sheng.
[Holly Daily wants an exclusive interview. They want your official statement. The public’s on your side. Even the people linking you to Caius’s scandal are calling you a hero now.]
Heather smiled to herself as she climbed into the car. Everything was finally falling into place.
