Chapter 178: Divine Might (2)

People had believed the barrier untouchable, like an immutable phenomenon.

-Good heavens!

-The barrier…

-This was possible?

-How could it be? Do you think the Galactic Empire hasn’t tried until now?

The barrier’s connection to Single Numbers as an Ether band phenomenon was only rumored; its true nature remained a mystery.

People only knew it as a barrier with immutable properties, fixed in space in a semi-tangible state. Yet Karlstein began to control it. Single-handedly, he influenced a phenomenon impervious to even the Galactic Empire’s planet-to-jewel technology.

Just how capable was the Emperor?

Its spherical, rather than banded, envelopment of humanity’s territory astonished everyone.

This practically meant there was no need to fear the Kaiju anymore.

Moreover, thanks to the knowledge Karlstein absorbed from Longquan, he gained a vague idea of what Platty was: the ego manifestation of one of the spatial laws, a lifeform that had evolved into Kaiju form.

Longquan’s knowledge was as vast as the sea and as deep as the abyss.

In other words…

Flit-

-Y-Your Majesty! How…!

-Gasp!”

“Don’t be surprised. As you were, men.”

He used Platty to suddenly appear in areas where warp jumping was prohibited by Imperial technology.

“I will fill this place with resources from the outer planet Pluo.”

And he reversed environments difficult for humanity to survive in, creating continents, and even bringing resources from outer planets.

“Kneel.”

A single word from him rendered entire rebel forces across a planet mindless.

Fwoosh-

He could even incinerate pirate bases several light-years away while sitting in place.

How was this different from the omnipotence of a god? What’s more, these apparent miracles were actually Karlstein’s experiments, unbeknownst to anyone.

“Is this how it’s used?”

With his near-infinite Ether, he had used the powers of Single Numbers only one-dimensionally. But when combined with Longquan’s knowledge, it brought about tremendous changes, so much so he could dare call himself a god.

He could do almost anything he set his mind to.

-(Title): ahh 3 years trapped in the Heavenly Demon Glass Formation.

-Please! Anyone knowledgeable about formations, please help me!

Flit-

“Huh? M-may I know who you are?! Are you also trapped—“

As Karlstein snapped his fingers, the Prohibition that had lasted 400 years shattered, revealing the outside scenery.

“W-who are you?!”

“Good heavens! The formation is broken! Quickly report to the superiors and—“

Slash-

The demonic cult members guarding the Prohibition were beheaded.

“How’s the Heavenly Demon in this world?”

“Sorry?”

Upon being told of the Heavenly Demon’s vicious nature, nodded thoughtfully. Using Ether, he searched the globe and found his target.

Flit-

“Huh? Where is this?”

“Is this the one?”

A naked man covered in blood was called over.

“Who are you! Identify yourself or I’ll kill you!”

“Ahhh!”

After absorbing the planet’s information and confirming the man’s actions, Karlstein passed judgment.

“You deserve death.”

Slash-

The Heavenly Demon, who had dyed the continent red with blood and gone into hiding, was erased.

“Soon, administrators from the Galactic Empire will be dispatched. Help them clean things up.”

“What?”

He disappeared without waiting for an answer.

-(Title): Am I to be sacrificed like this?

-If only I could have one bite of chicken before I die…

Flit-

Slash-

The heads of dozens of fanatics fell to the ground.

Thud.

“W-what is this… chicken?”

“I’m off now.”

It did not end there.

Flit-

“Woahhh!”

“Mm. Why the hell do you post pictures of crap? I’m genuinely curious, y’know. What’s in that brain of yours?”

“Gaaagh! S-spare me!”

Karlstein even made friendly visits to certain Community users who were suspiciously serious about posting cursed images.

In the end, he only discovered that they were a type of human he could never understand.

After finishing his experiments by actually applying Longquan’s knowledge to Ether, Karlstein dealt with the seeds of calamity spread throughout the corners of the Community’s dimensions.

The calamity was an aggregation of transcendent powers that Märchen had scattered in dimensional passages as it died.

“It’ll take some time…”

He traveled through the dimensions, continuously channeling complex spells into the dimensional passages to prevent and absorb Märchen’s curse.

“Did I go overboard?”

No. His actions would serve as an Ether barrier to prevent possible invasions by Single Numbers, like the barrier surrounding the Galactic Empire.

“This should be enough to prevent any more problems.”

Volume 53 of CGH did not mention any preemptive attacks by Single Numbers, but who knew?

After his experience at Mount Shengluo, Karlstein had learned nothing was definite.

What happened there was clearly different from the future written in volume 53.

The timing of Prohiden’s appearance and the message it delivered were not mentioned in volume 53. The same went for Longquan was the same. Karlstein could not bring himself to only trust the book.

There was no harm in being prepared. Even if Prohiden…was really who he presumed to be.

“Haah….It’s not certain. I need to confirm.”

Karlstein shook his head to clear his thoughts.

“Dealing with the Sephiroth comes first.”

The Sephiroth had sealed themselves off to defend themselves, but that was not the sole reason. It was to avoid all-out war against Chaos, Three Thousand, and humanity, and also to conserve strength.

In other words, they wanted to turn the other forces against each other while reaping the benefits.

“How despicable.”

Longquan could be considered the strongest hidden individual among 《Three Thousand》, and his memories now belonged to Karlstein, granting him new enlightenment on the secrets of dimensions. He was dying to pay the Sephiroth a visit.

Their idiotic defeat by 《Chaos》, fueled by their greed, had provided the hint to develop dimensional travel capabilities. It was a long time ago, and they’d fallen on hard times, treated like treasure goblins while desperately fighting back. Karlstein did pity them somewhat.

What’s more, a recent thrashing at the hands of 《Chaos》 had given the Kaiju the ability to open dimensional rifts.

“But whatever they’re going through is none of my concern.”

Justification aside, it ultimately came down to the survival of the fittest. Having gained sufficient power, he simply had no intention of leaving 《Sephiroth》 alone as the absolute ruler of the Galactic Empire.

“Come to think of it, they did give me a prediction.”

-Your wish will come true. You will finally meet the person you’ve been longing for. But your reunion will not be what you envision.

The true body of Sephiroth had prophesied something close to a curse.

-Emperor. Will you not join hands with me? If you do not, you will never reunite with your beloved in the form you…

In the past, there was a time when his memory was cut off while trying to switch to the Sephiroth side in World.

And when he opened his eyes, he was alone in a different place.

It was hard to believe that he suffered memory loss despite possessing the Mental Invariability trait.

Looking back, his mental barrier wasn’t breached. It was more accurate to say he had voluntarily lowered his defenses.

The guilt he carried might have subconsciously caused him to forget the incident. His sister, Yui, was a painful subject for him—a wound so raw that forgetting seemed the only way to cope.

But now it had all become meaningless.

“Platty.”

Pop-

He decided on the next destination.

“Since it’ll take time to enhance Genesis…”

He would visit 《Sephiroth》 before the enhancement of Genesis was completed.

“I hope they give a proper answer this time.”

As Karlstein chanted a spell while grasping Platty, his form dissolved into thin air.

“How long can we hold out with the remaining Sacred Blood?”

“There’s no need to worry about that. We’ve stockpiled enough in preparation for emergencies.”

“Hmm. That’s fortunate. Even so, we need to be a bit more careful since we don’t know how long this situation will last.”

“We should be fine for about 20,000 years. Of course, that’s if we don’t waste it like before.”

“It will be a difficult time.”

“But isn’t it fortunate since we can step back from the war for a while?”

“Haha. I was just pointing out concerns for the prosperity of our race. I had no intention of distorting Mother’s will.”

“Then that’s a relief.”

In the heart of a forest, surrounded by ancient trees so old their age defied estimation, stood a meeting hall. Its design blended marble with the timeless wood, creating a unique and captivating charm. Nearly a hundred elders sat inside.

“I’m sure everyone knows why we’ve gathered this time?”

They did. It was to determine future guidelines regarding Mother’s decision to seal herself, risking damage.

“For the time being, we won’t be able to supply Sacred Blood by opening new dimensions. We need to change the current system.”

“That’s right. It’s not over just because we hold out here for 20,000 years, is it? We don’t know what situation will await us after the seal is lifted. The more we save Sacred Blood, the better.”

“Hmm. I’m more concerned about that one arrogant human than the Kaiju.”

“I’ve heard too. They say he has power too great for a human?”

“I heard he even had a private audience with Mother…”

“What does a puny human matter right now? It’s just a mortal who won’t even be alive after the seal is lifted anyway.”

“Let’s continue on the Sacred Blood.”

Normally, the Sephiroth discovered new dimensions and connected them to their Mother’s roots. Then they dispatched administrators to manage the dimensions, as if gardening, to produce Sacred Blood.

They extracted Sacred Blood and fruits from Mother, returning some to her and using the rest for the prosperity of the Sephiroth clan.

This meeting addressed the long unavailability of Sacred Blood because of the seal. As the clan’s leaders, they started discussing the future.

But for all their power, none of them anticipated an unexpected guest near the very dimension where their meeting was taking place.

“Nice air.”

Karlstein’s eyes gleamed at the strong scent of the forest.
