Chapter 989: Chapter 989: The Disdained Third Brother and His Wife (1)
Qin Yuhuan had agreed to speak up for Qin Yunzhi, but at this moment, he didn’t dare to be rash and start speaking without caution. Hearing his grandmother’s command, he could only obediently follow it, asking the family maid to make tea for Qin Yunzhi and Yan Minmin.
Seeing the tea the maid brought over, Qin Yunzhi and Yan Minmin hesitated for a while before taking it.
Under the watchful gaze of the old Mrs. Qin, the two of them took another sip of the tea.
This small cup of tea was half filled with leaves, thick and bitter, one sip was enough to make one’s brows knot in discomfort.
What they were drinking wasn’t tea; it was estrangement! It was bitterness!
Despite that, Qin Yunzhi and Yan Minmin still gritted their teeth and drank it down.
After finishing the tea, Yan Minmin sneakily glanced at her mother-in-law, then at her husband, and, struck by a thought, carried her cup to sit beside the old Mrs. Qin.
"Mom, look outside, Yuanyuan and Susu are having so much fun!"
The tea room faced the courtyard through a floor-to-ceiling window, offering a clear view of the scene outside.
At this moment, several children were playing in the courtyard, the scene lively and spirited, their playful and cute antics warm onlookers’ hearts.
After watching for a while, the old Mrs. Qin suddenly said, "Yuanyuan doesn’t take after his father at all. His father was so mischievous as a child, bouncing around like a little monkey."
Upon hearing this, Qin Yunzhi’s large frame couldn’t help but shudder.
"Mom."
His deep voice, after a hiatus of twenty years, called out this word once more.
The old Mrs. Qin turned her head to look at him, "Still remember you have me as your mother?"
Qin Yunzhi stood rooted to the spot, facing his grandmother’s questioning, he had no choice but to obediently accept the scolding, with not a word of retort or defense.
Yan Minmin hurried to explain for her husband, "Mom, Yunzhi does remember you, really!"
"Remember me, yet for so many years not even showing your face to me!"
The repressed anger towards her son and daughter-in-law suddenly erupted from the old Mrs. Qin.
The entire tea room fell silent at once.
For brothers Qin Yuhuan and Qin Yuze, it was the first time they witnessed their grandmother lose her temper and raise her voice like this.
In their memories, their grandmother was always composed, elegant, and understanding, rarely ever losing her poise.
For a moment, Yan Minmin wanted to explain, but the words that reached her lips were once again swallowed back under her husband’s stern gaze.
Some things were impossible to say, not back then, and after so many years, even less so.
The tea room was exceptionally quiet, the atmosphere turned incredibly tense.
"Mommy!"
Suddenly, a clear voice broke the silence.
Susu ran in, followed by the other children.
Seeing everyone in the tea room looking so serious, Susu curiously asked, "What are you doing?"
"Nothing! We’re just discussing work matters," the old Mrs. Qin instantly put on a smile and gently explained to Susu.
"Oh, do you want me to help you with that?"
"No need, no need, we can handle it," the old Mrs. Qin quickly replied.
"But I don’t want Mommy and Daddy to work so hard."
"My sweet little treasure, didn’t we agree that you would help Mommy and Daddy when you grow up? Right now your most important job is to be happy and then to study well," coaxed the old Mrs. Qin.
"Is that so..." Susu frowned her cute little brows, pondered for a moment, then turned around, pointing at Qin Yunzhi and Yan Minmin, "Then how about letting Yuanyuan’s daddy and mommy help you? They seem pretty capable and should be able to do a lot of work."
Susu’s words caught everyone by surprise.
