The Lich of Glory Knight Spirit: Moving towards Krimasha! -
Chapter 94 - 26: Guardian of Justice (4)
Chapter 94: Chapter 26: Guardian of Justice (4)
Just as the church had quietly shifted its strategy towards Gray, Gray, entirely unaware, continued his relentless pursuit of justice.
Benedict "smartly" hid inside the castle, trying to resist through defense.
Though Gray seemed a bit silly, he wasn’t stupid. In fact, the Lich race didn’t have any fools among them. The reason he appeared somewhat silly was merely a difference in perception.
After two failed assaults, Gray quickly recognized the reality: a frontal attack was definitely unwise. After all, the Silver Moon Knight Order’s identity was special, and not a single member could die or be captured, or else Gray’s Lich identity would surely be exposed.
Following the "Gray-style thinking," he adopted a new method—trying to "convert" them.
"Do you really think you can convert them?" Yilin was bewildered upon hearing this decision. It was the first time she had heard of someone trying to convert their opponents on the battlefield.
"Why not? Back in White City, I didn’t fight much. In the end, it was all through conversion." Gray said confidently, "Besides, as a Holy Knight, I ultimately need to learn preaching, right? This is a good opportunity; there are so many people for me to practice on."
"So you’re planning to... learn to preach on the battlefield?" Yilin still felt that something was off.
Shelley, on the other hand, was very supportive. In fact, she supported all of Gray’s decisions. Even if the decisions seemed extremely silly.
"I think this idea is simply fantastic! No matter how hard I tried before, I still couldn’t finish reading the Bible. Now I get sleepy whenever I see it. But the moment I think of you preaching, I’m immediately filled with interest in the Bible! Surely they will feel the same way!"
"Really?" Gray asked sincerely.
"Of course, it’s true!" Shelley replied earnestly.
The "Silly Couple" quickly reached a unanimous decision. Even if others wanted to stop them, there was no way they could.
Thus, a new nightmare began.
The day after Benedict entered the castle, Gray began standing at the castle gate, explaining the Bible to those inside.
"Now, let’s open the Bible to the first Chapter, first verse, and feel the love of the Holy Spirit for all living creatures together!" Using magic, the sound reached everyone’s ears accurately. It included allies like Yilin and Huoersi, as well as Benedict II’s soldiers and Benedict II himself inside the castle.
A knight in heavy armor immediately stuck his head out from behind the wall and shouted, "Are you crazy? Preaching at this time? If you have the guts, attack us! Why all the chatter?"
"Yeah! Attack us!"
"If you don’t dare to attack, then get lost!"
The soldiers inside the castle began to shout in unison.
Gray snapped the Bible shut with a "crack" and turned to Carl behind him, saying, "Teach them the proper attitude they should have in class."
"Yes." Carl raised his hand and made a cutting motion forward. The massive trebuchet that had just been assembled let loose, sending a stone in a graceful arc through the air, landing exactly where the knight in heavy armor had just poked his head out. With a thunderous crash, it smashed down a section of wall, kicking up a cloud of dust and eliciting cries of agony.
The soldiers were dazed.
Gray said seriously, "Let me make it clear, there are rules in class. Disrespect to the teacher is disrespect to the Holy Spirit. Any disrespect to the Holy Spirit is unforgivable. Moreover, I will be asking questions later. If anyone cannot answer, they will be punished. Those who answer correctly will be rewarded."
"How do you know who you’re asking the question to?" someone muttered quietly.
The whizzing sound came, and the next moment, a loud bang as another part of the wall was smashed open, just enough for Gray to see the soldier who had muttered. The soldier’s expression was twisted with fear, and he was sitting on the ground, paralyzed.
Gray said coldly, "I’m serious."
The soldier nodded hastily.
No one dared to make a sound now.
The soldiers were helpless, angry, but too scared to speak out.
"Alright, now let’s open to the first verse again..."
"You will never succeed!" Benedict II said through gritted teeth, furious at Gray.
But Gray didn’t pay him any attention.
Regardless of his intentions, Gray went ahead with his plan. He started preaching outside the castle, repeatedly explaining the Bible. Shelley stayed by his side all the time, her energy as boundless as if she were also a Lich.
During the day, he held classes. At night, he sang hymns, over and over, without end.
Benedict II stood on the tower every day, mocking Gray, although nobody paid him much attention.
*Busily dispatching troops, Yilin said, "King Allen and Duke Tangjis have both stopped advancing? Moreover, they’ve retreated... what are they waiting for?"*
Count Gruglu watched Gray, utterly confused, "I must say, this approach is quite childish. I can’t see any sense in it. If it were up to me, I would use the trebuchet to keep pounding them until they were willing to open the gates. Though it might take a long time, at least it’s guaranteed to be effective."
"Then why don’t you tell Gray directly?" Pas asked from the side.
"Because..." Count Gruglu spread his hands helplessly, "Although my understanding says it’s absolutely impossible for this to succeed, if Gray does it... I feel maybe he could succeed. Just like countless times before. You have to admit, if by some chance he succeeds, it would be another amazing victory."
Pas pursed his lips and looked at the castle silently for a long time, then said, "Actually, if he could precisely determine the position of everyone inside the castle and the trebuchet were that accurate, he could squash Benedict II with one stone. I don’t understand why he’s dragging it out. However, maybe he has other plans and doesn’t want to end the war so soon."
*There was no denying, a strange transformation was happening within the small White City team. After Gray had achieved countless unbelievable victories, these people were gradually becoming "like Shelley." They habitually started to believe that whatever Gray said or did was right. Though it might sound or seem extremely ridiculous, it was simply right. If they internally disagreed, they often felt that they were the ones who were wrong.*
*A large group of people watched as Gray continued his antics.*
As days passed and the siege lasted for several more days, Gray began to use buttered bread as rewards, shifting the atmosphere inside the castle to a bizarre direction.
Benedict II was dumbfounded.
There were soldiers who mocked Gray in front of Benedict II every day, then turned around to seek tutoring from the military chaplains. Not only did they study diligently in class, but they also took extra lessons at night. Those who mocked Gray the hardest often were the very ones chewing on buttered bread the next day.
Every soldier’s eyes started to sparkle, as if they had figured something out.
Thus... they all, without discussing it, began to earnestly study the Bible.
"He’s just a madman, just a madman!" a soldier said angrily, biting into the buttered bread, "He wants to convert us; it’s ridiculous. We will never be converted by him! Even if we die, we will never be converted!"
"I don’t understand this question. Can you help explain it to me?" another soldier asked.
"Oh, I know this one..." Taking the Bible, the soldier began to explain it in detail.
*Yes, while cursing Gray, they earnestly studied and devoted themselves to the holy faith as requested by Gray in exchange for bread.*
*Wherever he went, Benedict II could see soldiers holding a Bible and hear them discussing it. Even those who were illiterate were working hard to learn through others’ explanations. They even started forming competitions among themselves...*
*Driven by the "inspiration" of hunger, the soldiers’ learning potential was being fully realized.*
*This was undoubtedly a conspiracy, but was studying the Bible wrong? No believer would say so. Even the King wouldn’t say it was wrong. Especially with the temptation of buttered bread, it was impossible to refuse.*
*Unlike before, the castle’s mood even turned to one of laughter. After all, Gray came every day to distribute buttered bread and praise their progress.*
Every scene left Benedict II anxious, but he dared not say a word. The food inside the castle had been completely exhausted. Taking the only food from the soldiers’ mouths was a move any commander with a bit of military common sense knew would have dire consequences. The key was that since the supply of buttered bread, the soldiers no longer feared starving to death. So, no one was willing to follow his orders to break out of the castle.
Although the simple Isaac soldiers still respected him as their king and had no plans to stage a coup, Benedict II felt that the coup was not far off.
Of course, it wouldn’t matter even if he knew; there was nothing he could do.
*The "brainwashing" continued madly.*
*Inside the castle, rules began to form that were different from the outside world.*
*Those who studied diligently, progressed positively, and followed the chivalric spirit and holy faith were immediately rewarded. Those who violated the chivalric spirit and holy faith were starved for two days. Furthermore, Gray started sending people into the castle to conduct worship services and hear the soldiers’ confessions.*
*In front of these desperate soldiers, he was the "Holy Spirit."*
Count Gruglu stood wide-eyed, unable to believe his eyes.
If there was any living being with the best patience in this world, it was undoubtedly the Lich. The Liches of the underworld could do dull tasks year after year, day after day. And Gray could preach day after day, tirelessly explaining the holy faith to the soldiers in the castle, melting their icy hearts bit by bit with "love, care, and buttered bread."
Finally, Benedict II exploded on the fifteenth day of the siege after even his private stash of food was completely exhausted.
He kicked over a knight who was chewing on buttered bread and talking about attempting to enter seminary after the war to become a priest, snatching his bread and eating it while shouting, "You useless wretches! All of you! Are you pigs? Bought over by a bit of food!"
With a "clang," the surrounding soldiers drew their swords, not against the fallen knight, but against the king...
The next day, a bruised and battered Benedict II meekly joined the ranks of those studying the holy faith, hoping Gray would give him an extra piece of buttered bread.
Count Gruglu was utterly impressed.
And by then, over half a month had passed since the declaration of war, yet there was no sign of King Allen’s and Duke Tangjis’ armies.
