Chapter 318: Chapter 47: Father and Son Conflict (4)
"Duke Clement! Duke Clement! Something terrible has happened," a voice called out.
Count Dracula and the dark-haired vampire hurriedly walked from the room to the balcony.
The brown-haired vampire, known as Duke Clement and standing highest in rank on the balcony, slightly lowered his head to glance down.
A member of the Deacon Council transformed into a bat and flew over from a distance, then changed back into human form as he landed on the ground below the balcony. His black robe was already in tatters. The rips made his wounds and the blood clearly visible. He looked as though he had just gone through a fierce battle.
All the present members of the Deacon Council couldn’t help but widen their eyes.
"Where are the others?" the Duke of Calemon asked softly.
The Deacon councilman stammered, "We... we were ambushed."
"Ambushed by the Hydra?"
"Not entirely, there were also dwarves."
"Ambushed by a group of slaves?" The Duke of Calemon snorted coldly and immediately jumped down from the balcony, shouting, "Everyone, assemble——!"
In an instant, all the Blood Clan members rushed in.
On the balcony, Count Dracula still seemed a bit dazed.
"Don’t worry, it’s just a minor issue," the dark-haired vampire beside him said indifferently, then also leaped down from the balcony.
...
When Duke Clement arrived at the tunnel entrance, he happened to see another five members of the Deacon Council supporting each other, looking utterly disheveled as they emerged from the tunnel.
"Where are the other four?"
"Not sure, it seems... seems like they were captured." One of the members stammered, "They actually used the Hydra to block the cave. And this place is completely unfamiliar to us."
"Were you wounded by the Hydra?"
"No, by the dwarves."
"You were injured by a bunch of dwarf slaves? What about your magic shields?"
"We used them, but... *I feel like they were insane, I’ve never seen such crazy dwarves before. And it looked like they were under unified command.*"
The council members emerging from the tunnel were all stammering, nearly scared to death.
Duke Clement took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly, "Count Messier."
"Present!" Standing next to Count Dracula as a go-between was none other than the black-haired vampire who answered.
"Change the entrance. You and I will each lead half of the people inside. These tunnels should all be interconnected."
"Do we still need to go in?" Count Messier was stunned, "Maybe... maybe we can smoke them out? If we could force them out, it would be easier to handle."
"Do you know how many exits are there here? Do you know what the inside structure is like?"
"Uh... no."
"This is a mine, not a cave. If we use smoke, they’ll laugh at us. We’re the Blood Clan, and they’re the Hydra and dwarves. *They’re definitely trying to buy time. This place has a day and night cycle, and once the sun rises, it will be very disadvantageous for us. We must act swiftly.*"
"Yes."
"You guys, follow Count Messier. The rest, follow me."
"Yes!"
"Yes!"
After a quick division, the Deacon Council’s forces were swiftly split into two groups, bypassing the current tunnel entrance and heading toward other tunnel entrances.
Halfway through, Count Messier stopped, grabbing Count Dracula and whispering, "He just mentioned unified command. Has your son been in wars?"
After thinking for a moment, Count Dracula nodded.
"How many times?"
"Not quite sure, he seemed to have participated in many battles under the Lich King, maybe... a few hundred times."
"A few hundred times?" Count Messier’s mouth twitched slightly, "Why have you never told me?"
"I... I didn’t really know. I just knew he went to the battlefield," Count Dracula stammered, "It should just be a coincidence, he’s still just a child, not very capable."
"Is that so? You said that earlier, and now we already have four people captured," Count Messier could only continue forward with a heavy heart.
Count Dracula took a deep breath and quickly followed.
*A child who’s gone through hundreds of battles, possibly even commanded hundreds of battles, is that still just a child?*
*There’s a world of difference between those who’ve been to war and those who haven’t. If the other side hadn’t, then here it would be just a Hydra, a ragtag group of dwarf slaves, and a young vampire. They could handle it easily.*
*But if that young vampire were battle-hardened and held the advantageous terrain, and had the full loyalty of a group of dwarves... ha, this might be an army.*
...
Meanwhile, Jones was sharpening his knife in the cave.
Four vampires were tightly bound with iron chains, their mouths gagged. Even their fingers were tied with hemp ropes to prevent them from using silent magic.
"What do we do next?" Silver Hammer whispered, "We have hostages now, can we use the hostages to threaten them?"
"That’s for later."
"What about now?"
"Now, we keep stalling. Our goal is to buy time. As long as we buy enough time, we’ll win."
"Alright. Lord, we’ll follow your lead." The dwarves all gave thumbs up to Jones.
...
Standing at the cave entrance, one of the vampires, who had just run out from inside, held a torch and explained to Count Messier, "It’s very dark inside, nearly pitch-black. We can’t see anything and must carry torches. Even with torches, we can only see a little distance around us."
