Chapter 203: Chapter 20: Salted Fish Port_2
Richie walked over slowly.
"Huh, Richie hasn’t grown taller?"
"What do you expect? He’s only a little over a year old..."
"But when I left, he was about this size too. I thought he’d be as tall as me when I came back."
"I don’t know about that, maybe he just started growing quickly in the beginning."
Gray bent down and picked Richie up.
Hesitantly, Richie softly called out, "Daddy."
"Good boy."
Holding Richie with one hand and Shelley with the other, Gray walked step by step towards Salted Fish Castle.
Carl tugged the reins, riding his horse in place, watching them from a distance.
"I’ll tell you, Richie is so well-behaved, he can do everything by himself now. I don’t have to worry at all."
"Really?"
"Of course it’s true!" Richie waved his little fists, smiling like an ordinary child.
On the deserted street, only this family of three walked slowly, laughing together.
Vivian, revealing herself on the hillside, pouted jealously.
...
As night fell, the entire castle was filled with laughter.
Basins of food were piled on the table. Dwarves drank, ate, and sang and danced. The Black Cat was enjoying a rare meal of roasted fish.
The Silver Moon Knights patrolled various parts of the castle.
In the kitchen, Shelley was already dizzy from busyness.
"Garlic!"
"Here!" Richie hurriedly passed it over.
"Get the pepper!"
"Okay!" Richie ran from one side of the kitchen to the other and quickly returned with a jar of pepper.
Gray walked in from outside, seeing Shelley dressed like a cook, covered in soot, in an apron.
"Do you really not need my help?"
"No." Shelley wiped the sweat from her forehead, smiling as she spoke, "Actually, I can cook. Though not very well, luckily they don’t mind."
Richie stood quietly nearby, watching.
"Hey! Move aside!" Bandage, Door Tooth, and a bunch of other dwarves squeezed in behind Gray, "Ma’am, we’re almost done eating, any new dishes?"
"Hold on!" Shelley hurriedly rolled up her sleeves and poured a ladle of boiling hot oil over the dishes, "Here you go!"
The dwarves cheered and carried plates of meat away.
Watching them leave, Shelley sighed helplessly, "They sure can eat."
"It’s been a month since they had a proper meal."
"Then they should eat more. They followed my husband in battles, I should treat them well." Shelley said, then turned to Richie, "How much meat is left?"
"Just a little bit, mom. They’ve eaten almost all of it."
"I wonder if the butcher is still in town. Richie, go ask if he can deliver more. No, you don’t know the way, I’ll go instead." Shelley said, rolling down her sleeves and preparing to go out.
Gray hurriedly grabbed her, "I’ll go."
"Do you know where? You probably don’t know everyone in Salted Fish Port yet."
"No, but I can go out and hunt a couple of deer."
"Hmm... okay. I guess he might not be in town anymore, so hunting is probably our only option. But I don’t know how to hunt deer."
"It’s fine, Carl and the others do. They’re skilled at it from their time as mercenaries."
"Okay." Shelley nodded.
...
The entire Salted Fish Port was quiet, with very few windows showing light.
A large group of liches lined up on the rooftops, watching silently.
"Boo hoo, I’m so touched, Shelley’s the only one who’s stayed loyal. I wish I had a woman to give me little liches!"
"Having a woman isn’t enough, you also need to borrow a succubus from Hell."
"Do you think they’d lend us one?"
"Maybe, possibly, who knows. But if we could fight Hell and win, they might agree."
As they were talking, the gates opened. Carl led a group of people hurriedly out of town, racing towards the western woods.
"Oh, someone’s entering the city! Who’s this?"
"Uh... looks like Duke Beisher." Morca said.
From a distance, Yilin, cloaked in white, arrived on horseback from the north, alone.
The gates, recently closed, opened once more.
Yilin dismounted and walked quickly across the drawbridge.
Seeing the Silver Moon Knight take off his helmet on the city gate’s inner side, Yilin paused for a moment, fear flashing in her eyes.
After a while, she regained her composure and softly asked, "Has Gray returned?"
"Yes. The Holy Knight returned to Salted Fish Port this morning." The gate-guarding Silver Moon Knight replied.
*Hearing this, Yilin seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. But after thinking for a moment, she furrowed her brow.*
*Adjusting her breathing constantly and standing silently for a while, she finally softly said to the Silver Moon Knight,* "Take me to see him."
"Yes."
Led by the Silver Moon Knight, she walked across the plaza, entered the castle, and climbed the spiral staircase upwards. Soon, she arrived at the kitchen and saw Shelley busy, Richie helping, and of course, Gray beside them.
"Yilin, why are you here?"
Yilin’s gaze fixed on Gray’s skull for two seconds before she quickly closed her eyes and looked away.
"I heard... I was worried something might happen to Shelley, so I came as soon as I could. Didn’t expect you to be faster."
"Are you afraid of me?" Gray asked.
Yilin kept taking deep breaths. She wanted to say no, but her expression already said it all, making any words seem meaningless.
*After a long silence, Gray changed his tone,* "Thank you for coming."
Yilin closed her eyes and gently nodded.
Shelley said, "Why don’t you chat with Sister Yilin for a bit? I can manage alone."
Yilin softly asked, "You’re cooking alone? Where’s your cook?"
Her voice was still trembling slightly.
"They’re all gone. Before Gray came back, it was just Richie and me in the castle."
"Do you need... me to find some people for you?"
"Did you bring anyone?"
"No, I came alone."
"Then how will you find people?"
For a moment, Yilin was speechless.
*The situation was worse than imagined. Now, almost everyone kept a respectful distance from Gray. Each person once close to Gray bore tremendous pressure. In essence, choosing to stand by Gray meant giving up everything else.*
...
The night grew deeper.
The dwarves, full of food and drink, fell asleep right in the hall, their snores booming. Annoyed by the noise, the Black Cat moved to the castle walls to find a more comfortable spot.
Cleaning the dishes was assigned to the Silver Moon Knights. As for Gray, Yilin, Shelley, Richie, and Vivian, they were in Gray’s study at the top of the main castle building.
The entire study was silent, everyone lost in thought.
Vivian, bored, rested her head on her hands. Gray sat quietly, while Shelley’s gaze alternated between Gray and Yilin. Yilin covered her face. Richie quietly read a magic book in the corner.
In fact, everyone’s attention was on Yilin.
After a long while, Yilin finally lowered her hand and softly spoke, "Actually, I thought a lot on the way here, I have so many questions for you, more than I can count. But now that I’m here, I find there’s nothing to ask anymore. I don’t know why."
"*I felt the same way.*" Shelley smiled and said, "I trust him, so I didn’t need to ask anything. Later, he told me everything. Although I still don’t understand much. But if you truly want to know, you can ask anything, he will tell you."
Looking at Gray, Yilin softly asked, "I just want to know now, what are your plans going forward?"
"I don’t know." Gray shook his head, staring at the empty table, "I don’t know how they’ll treat me, so I don’t know what to do. But I will definitely continue to follow the path of righteousness, never betraying my faith."
