Chapter 183: Chapter 12: Visitor (2)

The dark underground world.

Green ghostly fire drifted everywhere. Bone-spiked pyramids stood at the center of the underground plains, resembling giant dragon fruits. Two massive ancient dragon skeletons laid atop them, brought back by the Liches as decorations. It was said they fought the Dragon Clan for these bones, didn’t win, but the Dragon Clan eventually conceded. The war lasted over a thousand years, and Liches, after being destroyed, simply returned to their phylacteries, rested for two years, and then bounced back onto the battlefield...The Dragon Clan was utterly exhausted and signed a peace agreement.

This was the headquarters of the Lich Council.

A name?

Oh no, this place had no name. The Lich Council held meetings for two thousand years without deciding a name, almost triggering a massive internal war over it. Finally, they temporarily shelved the naming issue.

You have to understand, Liches are a crazy species. The Lich Council can quickly unify on issues like fighting or going out to do bad deeds together, but other topics...they’ll turn them into fighting or going out to do bad deeds together.

At this moment, there were not even any guards here. If someone stumbled upon this place, they might think it was a ruin or ancient tomb.

The meat-winged toad demon and Tavia stood dumbfounded in the mysterious empty hall, staring in bewilderment.

"Why aren’t there any guards? Did we come to the wrong place?"

"No, it’s normal for there to be no guards here. The Liches think guards might scare off heroes. That way, heroes won’t come to ambush them, and they would miss out on a lot of fun. Though no hero has ever come."

"Then where are the Liches? There aren’t any Liches here either?"

"Um..." The Frog Demon scratched his nonexistent chin and pondered, "Usually, there would be a few Liches resting here. It’s strange why none are here this time. Did something happen?"

As they were speaking, a Lich stumbled into the hall, looking around in surprise: "They’re all gone! What happened! They’re all gone! Usually, being late by a year was fine, but I was just late by a day this time, and they left me?"

He staggered across the hall, halfway through dropping a book from his pocket. He turned, picked it up, then exited through another door, seemingly oblivious to the demons standing there.

The Frog Demon and Tavia stared blankly.

After a while, the Frog Demon could only nervously summarize: "The Lich Council has all left, which means something big must have happened. We need to investigate. Such situations have occurred before. The last time, they ambushed Heaven; before that, they ambushed us."

Tavia was utterly stunned.

...

At this moment, in the earth’s surface, in the outskirts of the Isaac Kingdom’s Lion King City, the butler lay unconscious in the kitchen, Pao Pao fainted in the hall, while a group of Liches surrounded a pitiful author.

"You can’t do this! You’re Liches, Liches reading novels...this is absurd."

"But we enjoy it, do you have a problem? Are you questioning the decisions of the Lich Council?"

"No, I’m definitely not questioning. I’m just...making a small suggestion. Shouldn’t you build a castle somewhere and kidnap a few princesses? That’s what Liches should be doing."

"Oh, you want to teach us how to be Liches, do you?"

"No—! That’s not what I meant at all!"

"In any case, we think your writing is good. We’ve even legislated that all Liches should read ’Lich Knight’."

"Leg...legislated?"

"Yes, but who will enforce it hasn’t been decided. Might require a fight. Of course, you don’t need to worry about that, just focus on writing the sequel." They said, as a pile of blank paper, pens, and ink were delivered to Morca.

Holding the pen, Morca’s forehead was drenched in sweat. *Around him, one skeletal head after another stared at him, colorful ghostly flames burned in their eye sockets.* He could only muster a panic-stricken yet polite smile: "Perhaps you could give me some privacy. I don’t mean to refuse writing, I just...I’m not accustomed to being watched, especially by Liches, while I write novels."

"What’s the reasoning here? He wants us to leave?"

"No! I’m not leaving, I can’t wait, I want to watch him write right here."

"Maybe we could turn invisible, so he wouldn’t know we’re watching."

"Hmm, that’s a good idea."

After some discussion, the Liches vanished.

The wind blew gently, lifting the window curtains.

In the pitch-black room, with only one candle burning, Morca sat alone, dazed, clutching the pen.

"Hey, you can start writing now. Don’t worry, we’re not watching."

"Do you think he’ll believe we’re not really watching him?"

"Don’t worry. I have a potion that makes anyone believe whatever someone says after drinking it. If he doesn’t believe, I’ll give him some."

"Good, let’s see if he believes first."

Silence, long silence, Morca sweated profusely and then burst into laughter, laughing like he was crying: "Hahaha, they’re all gone. I’m in the zone now!"
