The Lich of Glory Knight Spirit: Moving towards Krimasha! -

Chapter 179: Chapter 10: Turbulent Night (5)
If this matter was to be decided by humans, they would probably gather all the evidence, keep it in their hands, and neither make it public nor conduct a trial. The person doing this would be able to firmly control the church for at least several decades.
However, Gray was a Lich. Liches did not understand compromise, nor did they understand so-called power schemes. Or rather, they disdained such schemes and preferred simple and direct methods instead.
So...
"Next, it will be up to the Holy Father to examine these pieces of evidence and interrogate those who violated the doctrine."
"That’s impossible!" Darren IV almost burst into tears. He had never seen such a scene: "I am the only one here who is innocent. According to the rules, the Holy Father cannot single-handedly judge a cardinal!"
"Who told you that you are innocent?" Gray asked.
Darren IV was stunned.
Carl walked over to the pile of evidence and retrieved a wooden tray from it, on which lay a thick stack of letters: "This was found in the Holy Father’s residence."
Eyes widened, Darren IV stared blankly at the stack of letters, his face ashen.
"I never said any one of you is innocent, nor did I say any one of you is guilty. I am giving you the chance to plead your case," Gray said loudly, "Considering that the church has a rule that requires the formation of a Cardinal Court for judging cardinals, I respect this rule. My personal suggestion is that you can take turns acting as judges and judge each other. Of course, if any of you are found to be partial, you may face additional charges. If you collude to cover each other up, I will have to take special measures. Now, you may begin. Jones!"
Jones, who was standing at the door, was taken aback for a moment before he hurriedly ran in: "Yes!"
"Supervise them."
"Understood," Jones nodded cheerfully.
The hall was silent.
Gray, accompanied by Carl, left step by step.
Jones lifted his mask and grinned at the cardinals, revealing his small fangs.
"Having a member of the Blood Clan supervise us... This is madness," Dominique slumped in his chair.
"Isn’t the one judging us a Lich?" Angelo II answered dazedly.
A moment ago, they were thinking of revealing Gray’s identity as a Lich, putting him in a situation where the whole world was against him. Now... the entire church had already been overturned.
Without Augustus III, the church was destined to clash with Holy Knight Gray. But no one expected the conflict to escalate so quickly and so thoroughly.
...
The trial certainly couldn’t be concluded quickly, so the new Holy Father, along with thirty-one cardinals and four Holy Knights, were all trapped in the hall. Meanwhile, Gray issued a wanted order for the two cardinals who had managed to escape during the chaos.
The next morning, the news spread across the entire continent.
"Gray, you’re judging humans by Lich standards," Catherine commented.
Gray’s response was, "I don’t think there is a difference between Lich and human when it comes to holy faith."
Without a doubt, there was nothing on this land that could stop Gray now.
With the passing of Augustus III, Holy Knight Gray launched a rebellion, taking control of Church Court Mountain and detaining almost all the cardinals and the new Holy Father. This news undoubtedly affected Gray’s reputation negatively across the continent. Nonetheless, while various countries were shocked, they remained calm. Only the emperor of Gustav sent a letter to Gray.
"Honorable Holy Knight, although Azlan Mountain belongs to the church, it is also part of the Gustav Empire’s territory. The Gustav Royal Family does not intend to take sides in the internal disputes of the church. However, it is unconventional for you to use force to control the church without notifying the royal family. Perhaps you should personally explain your actions to me. Signed: Cedric V, ruler of Gustav and the Lorand Islands, the Holy Spirit’s acknowledged emperor, Guardian of the Northern Border of the Holy Sect, Arbiter, and Heir of the Holy Sword."
"Gustav Empire, Gustav Empire..." Gray murmured.
"It is the most powerful country on the continent, with a strong military," the Black Cat said. "Of course, they don’t have Holy Knights or Demon Envoys. You must admit that while the church is corrupted, it still serves a purpose. At the very least, no one would openly consort with Hell."
"Rather, there are no openly known Demon Envoys," Vivian corrected. "There are far more Demon Envoys on the continent than Holy Knights. Every country has them; they just don’t publicly acknowledge their identities."
"Oh, fine," the Black Cat spread its paws. "But in any case, this is a country that requires special attention. The north is different from the south. The north has a great empire. I feel this letter is probing to see what you really intend to do. After all, you now hold the church in your hands."
"What do you think I should do?"
"Go!"
"Don’t go!"
The Black Cat and Vivian gave completely opposite opinions.
"Why should you go?" Vivian clamored. "He’s just an emperor; we now control the church. On this continent, the church has always had greater authority than the throne! He should be the one to come to you!"
"But the situation is somewhat different now, Gray," the Black Cat said earnestly. "If you were a normally elected Pope, he should indeed come to you. But you are not. Also, although our actions are justifiable, not everyone believes so. Those who don’t believe us could cause significant trouble. This is detrimental to the reforms you intend to implement. We need to garner more support. The Emperor of Gustav is a primary target for gaining support. Previously, he knew nothing about you. We should show goodwill."
