Chapter 137 - 22: Battle of the Holy Knights (3) (Second Update)

Chapter 137: Chapter 22: Battle of the Holy Knights (3) (Second Update)

The bright church, Dean, who had already changed into a gray robe, knelt piously in front of the statue and prayed.

The sunlight quietly shone on him through the colorful window.

Behind him, a clergyman pushed open the door and walked in. Startled, he asked, "Lord Bishop, why are you dressed like this? Did you call me for something?"

Dean slowly opened his eyes and said softly, "There is a letter on the table. Please deliver it to the Cardinal Court. Before the new bishop takes office, you will act on my behalf."

"New bishop? Are you... resigning as bishop?"

"Yes." Dean stood up, strapped on his worn-out satchel, and walked up to the clergyman, calmly smiling.

"Where are you going?"

"I am going on a journey, to do what I can to help those who truly need my assistance. To be a good and upright person. I’m leaving this place in your hands." As he spoke, Dean lightly patted the clergyman’s shoulder and brushed past him.

"Lord Bishop, please wait!" The clergyman shouted, picking up the letter placed on the table.

The sound echoed in the empty church.

Dean, who had already reached the door, stopped and turned around, smiling.

"Does doing this have any significance?" the clergyman asked.

Dean silently stared at the statue and smiled, saying, "This world is gray."

The clergyman stared blankly at Dean.

After a pause, Dean continued, "We all know this. But I want to leave a window of true kindness and uprightness in this world, a little bit of true white, even if it’s not very real, it’s something."

"What are you saying? I don’t understand at all! Are you joking? You’re giving up the bishop’s position! This is a position many dream of but will never get in their lifetime!"

"I’m not joking. I’m just... following my heart, wanting to do something that a true evangelist should do. Life should have its meaning, not just conform to what the world imposes on us." Bending down, Dean made a cross on his chest and bowed piously. Turning around, he pushed open the door, deeply inhaled the fresh air outside, and left with a smile.

Looking at the open door, the clergyman was stunned.

In the empty, quiet church, the colorful sunlight quietly shone, illuminating the statue’s face.

...

The wind gently blew, pressing down the wild grass.

Stick lay quietly, blood spilling from his mouth. Slightly trembling, his gaze moved with difficulty toward Gray’s direction.

The tattered silver moon flag fluttered in the wind.

Holding the flagpole, Gray’s body was already shaky. Shelley guarded in front of him.

"Since you firmly refuse to surrender, we can only use force. But before that, I want to lift your mask, let everyone see what the famous Holy Knight Gray looks like."

Scarred and weary, Levi dismounted, walking towards Gray and Shelley.

"Don’t come closer—!" Shelley cried, gripping the short sword with both hands, trembling slightly, pointing it at Levi.

Three other Holy Knights approached on horseback, flipping open their own masks. One was already white-haired, while the other two were middle-aged, one with a black beard and the other with an elegant little mustache.

In panic, Shelley held the sword, unsure whom to aim at, and could only cry, "Don’t come closer—! Don’t touch my Holy Knight! Don’t—! Don’t come closer... Someone help save him? Someone help save my Holy Knight..."

*The world was so quiet that it felt as if only Shelley’s voice remained, only her cries and sobs, so desolate.*

Everyone just quietly watched.

Gene II with a dead gray face, Lusien V with a smiling face, Camilla with wide eyes in shock, Arthur with a puzzled look, and the soldiers of the Golden Snake Army, White Fox Army, as well as the watching clergy and civilians. Every person just quietly watched.

Everyone truly supporting Gray was already lying on the ground. Except for Jones and Dora far away, scared, not knowing whether to leave or stay.

"I said we lost, yet you refuse to surrender..." Black Cat weakly said, "In a moment, they’ll remove your mask, and it’ll all be over. It won’t just be confinement."

Levi stepped closer, stopping less than two meters from Shelley, tilting his head at her, saying, "Your name is Shelley, right? Miss Shelley, you’re holding the sword incorrectly. That’s not how you hold a sword."

"Don’t come closer—!" Shelley cried.

"Step aside." Levi said with difficulty, "A Holy Knight doesn’t strike women, but if a woman insists on obstructing him, I don’t know if an ’accidental injury’ might occur. So, please, step aside."

"No—!" Shelley gasped urgently, gripping the sword tightly, pointing it at Levi, who was now close to her.

"Shelley... step aside." Gray said softly, "You can’t stop him, I don’t want you to be hurt."

"No, no—!"

Seizing Shelley’s momentary distraction, Levi suddenly reached out and grabbed the tip of the short sword tightly. No matter how Shelley struggled, she couldn’t get free. With a heavy throw, Shelley, sword and all, was tossed aside, hitting the ground hard.

She tried to get up again. Lusien V signaled with his eyes, and two soldiers immediately ran forward and pinioned Shelley.

"Let go of me! Let go of me!" Shelley kept struggling, but it was all in vain.

"Now, let’s all see what Holy Knight Gray really looks like."

Levi stepped up to Gray, slowly reaching out a hand.

Everyone craned their necks, waiting, anticipating.

The hand moved bit by bit, getting closer bit by bit.

*"It’s over... This time it’s really over." Black Cat felt he was about to suffocate.*

*Gray’s soul fire flickered slightly, quietly waiting, no struggle, just waiting, waiting for the moment his true face appeared before everyone. Perhaps even the Lich was weary.*

*When the sunlight shone on his bones, would people be astonished at seeing Holy Knight Gray’s true visage?*

*Would they scream?*

*Would they fear?*

*He didn’t know.*

*He just quietly waited, waiting for his long nightmare to come true...*

Just as Levi’s hand was about to touch Gray’s mask, a voice sounded in Levi’s mind.

"Stop!" It was Vivian’s voice.

Sudden rumbling sounds were heard.

Looking up, people were shocked to find that the previously sunny sky was now covered with dark clouds. Not only that, but the clouds were accompanied by lightning.

A strong wind blew across the plain.

Shelley looked skyward in amazement.

The four Holy Knights gripped the hilts of their longswords tightly, vigilantly scanning their surroundings.

Looking up, the angels’ expressions began to change, their eyes widening.

"Is this the power of hell?"

"Such powerful force... Where did it come from?"

"That Succubus just ran off—did she go get reinforcements?"

"Impossible, they wouldn’t break the ceasefire agreement for this!"

"Wait, that’s... the cloud is falling—!" The shout came from a human.

Yes, before the angels or anyone present could react, something unbelievable happened—the cloud, complete with lightning, fell down! The entire dark cloud fell heavily onto the plain!

Suddenly, not just the battlefield, but the entire Buck Town, and all the surrounding mountains, rivers, everything was enveloped in dark clouds. Flashes of lightning rolled, people scattered in panic.

"The place is filled with dark energy, no way to determine direction!"

"Someone is attacking me!" One of the angels called out.

Immediately, all the angels moved at once, heading towards the angel’s location.

"Gray, it’s me! I’ve come to rescue you! See, Guardian Angel can’t be counted on! In the end, it’s up to me, the Instigator Demon!"

"Vivian?"

"Who else? I specifically waited until now to save you, don’t tell me you don’t want to go, if you refuse, I’ll knock you out and take you!"

"Why do you have... such powerful strength?"

"Oh, my talent is hiding aura and creating fake aura, if you asked Catherine, you’d know. I hide, she can’t find me!"

"Wait, Shelley... and..."

"Nothing! Nothing at all! Carrying you is heavy enough! Holy Knight’s performance time is over, now it’s time for the Succubus’s performance! Listen to me!"

"Wouldn’t this violate the agreement?"

"It definitely violates it! So when the Angel Judgement Team chases me later, you’ll have to come rescue me!"

"Hey! Thought it was here just now! Why suddenly gone!" This was the angel’s voice.

"Wait, her goal is to rescue Gray! As long as Gray... Gray disappeared—!" This was Levi’s voice.

"Quick, search!" This was Julian’s voice.

Vivian, small in stature, carried the much larger Gray, darting through the dark clouds, brushing against a human, Vivian lightly patted his back, instantly, he wore a suit of armor identical to Gray’s, even the twisted injuries were identical.

That man ran away in panic.

"Holy Knight Gray is over there!" Someone exclaimed.

"They... found us?" Gray hurriedly asked.

"No, they found the fake Gray! Thanks to Catherine’s scroll, they can’t track your aura!" Vivian quickly pulled out the two long spears pinning Tenidas to the ground, lifted Gray onto the horse, then stuffed something into Gray’s armor.

"Take this, so I can find you! Black Cat! Shut up, I’m just rescuing you as an afterthought! Tenidas! Run that way! Trample on anyone who blocks you! Got it!"

"Hiss—!"

Tenidas carried Gray, galloping towards the northeast.

"What about you?" From afar, Gray used his remaining strength to send a message to Vivian’s mind.

Back facing Gray, Little Witch shook her small ball, slowly revealing a smile, softly saying, "I still have to play hide and seek with them for a while, gain some time. Succubus loves playing hide and seek! The best part of never letting them see my face is, they’ll never know if the Gray they catch is real!"

Tenidas carried Gray, dashing through the crowd.

"Miss Succubus! We know it’s you!" Inside a dark cloud, Julian shouted, "You’ve broken the agreement! If you immediately hand over Gray, we can act like nothing happened!"

"Is a Succubus wanting to help justice not allowed? Agreement? I violated it, so what? Come catch me!"

"She’s over there!"

"Yes yes yes, I’m here, come catch me, you bunch of idiots!"

...

Gradually, Gray couldn’t hear the angel’s rage or Vivian taunting the angels anymore.

"Shelley, Catherine, Vivian, Carl, Stick, Andrew..."

*In a haze, he kept muttering the names of his unknown-to-be-dead-or-alive companions, feeling himself bumping all the way, not knowing how long, how far he had run.*

*Finally, in a trance, he gradually lost consciousness...*
