Chapter 133 - 19: The Church’s Secret Order (4) (Second Update)

Chapter 133: Chapter 19: The Church’s Secret Order (4) (Second Update)

"Is this... an official declaration of war?"

The crowd, whether civilians or soldiers from both armies, erupted in astonishment.

Gene II was so excited that the corners of his mouth began twitching. Could anything be more exhilarating than this? Without even needing to duel, Holy Knight Gray was already siding with him.

Lusien V warily stepped back, as shield-bearers and pikemen swiftly formed a defensive lineup in front of him.

Unaware of what was about to happen, Shelley covered her mouth in shock.

Levi, as always, smiled calmly.

"Form ranks—!" Carl’s voice echoed across the battlefield.

The Silver Moon Knight Order had already begun swiftly adjusting their formation, transitioning from a horizontal line into a wedge formation aimed at the Golden Snake Army.

The dwarves, serving as the "infantry," also started adjusting their formation. Though untrained and somewhat disorderly, they did not look out of place when paired with the Silver Moon Knight Order’s immaculate precision.

Gene II excitedly drew his sword but was stopped by Gray with a firm hand: "Please, Duke, observe the battle from the sidelines."

"Observe? You want me to just watch?" Gene II’s hand visibly trembled.

"Yes. Punishing violators of agreements is the responsibility of the arbiter. Your intervention is unnecessary." Gray spoke in a tone that brooked no refusal.

Gene II reluctantly sheathed his sword.

"The battle is starting! The battle is starting!" Vivian clapped her hands in delight.

"Gray..." Black Cat spoke nervously. "Don’t you think you should reconsider? The Church’s hardline stance has exceeded our initial expectations. If we charge, we’ll essentially be declaring war on the Church ourselves. This will spiral out of control. I suspect this might trigger the angels to act against you. What do you think, Catherine?"

"I’m not sure. Logically speaking, it shouldn’t. But... I feel flustered. I don’t know if Julian will make a move..."

"If Julian doesn’t act, why is Levi doing this?"

Adjusting his steps until he was perfectly in sync with the other Silver Moon Knights, forming the tip of the wedge formation at the front, Gray prepared himself and murmured softly, "I have no choice. If I retreat, and betrayers go unpunished, it would mean all my previous promises are lies, and even the justice we stand for is false. The war can be lost, but our principles must remain unwavering!"

"Gray... Alright. I know I can’t dissuade you, but promise me: when we advance, no one will attack Levi directly. Don’t give him any excuse."

"I understand."

"No one attack Levi directly." The message spread swiftly across the Silver Moon Knight Order.

"What if he attacks us first?" someone asked.

After a brief hesitation, Gray responded, "Retaliation is permitted."

...

Levi sat atop his horse in the distance, smiling as he gazed at the Silver Moon Knight Order.

...

"Huh?" Shelley suddenly noticed something. "Where’s Vivian? Why isn’t she with us?"

Jones casually fabricated an excuse: "She... she left early last night."

"Left? Where did she go? The battle is about to start. I’m worried she might be in danger."

"Don’t worry. She *is* the danger."

"Huh?"

...

Indeed, at this moment, Vivian was bouncing around beside Gray in excitement. "Amazing! Wipe out all the evildoers! It’s such a pity I can’t join the battle. Otherwise, I could take on two Julians myself!"

"Are you serious?" Catherine asked.

"No, I’m joking!" Vivian quickly replied.

...

Camilla watched anxiously, her eyes wide.

At Carl’s request, Gene II retreated back to his battalions, standing alongside Camilla.

Meanwhile, Lusien V started consolidating his forces, forming a circular formation that completely encased himself within the army.

One hundred and fifty troops against forty thousand—yet the forty thousand found themselves on the defensive. This was all thanks to the reputation of the Silver Moon Knight Order. The sight of the illustrious Silver Moon Knight Order assuming an offensive formation was enough to utterly unnerve Lusien V.

His gaze involuntarily shifted toward Levi, but Levi remained motionless, sitting astride his horse.

"Levi hasn’t moved," Arthur urgently said. "Father, he may have betrayed us."

"That’s impossible."

"Nothing is impossible. You once said, ’No opportunistic Holy Knight would fight a losing battle.’ Perhaps he never intended to act, never planned to participate!"

"That’s impossible!"

"What if he’s planning to ensure we lose, giving the Church an excuse to deploy forces against Holy Knight Gray?"

Lusien V froze in realization, his eyes widening.

"If we refuse to participate in the duel, his goal is already achieved. Perhaps... perhaps he just wants us to lose," Arthur stammered, desperately trying to persuade his father.

However, Lusien V shoved him aside. "Impossible! If Levi hasn’t moved when they charge, we’ll raise the white flag! Levi should understand that!"

...

Finally, the Silver Moon Knight Order had finished forming ranks. Gray raised his sword high and shouted, "Your Majesty! I now give you one last chance for peace! If you’re willing to honor the agreement, I’m still prepared to accept it!"

His voice echoed through the air.

The entire world seemed to fall still as everyone watched in tense silence. Curious onlookers stretched their necks eagerly.

Lusien V repeatedly glanced in Levi’s direction, hesitating. Sweat was already dripping from his forehead.

The dwarves loaded their muskets as they prepared.

"They’ve got forty thousand on the other side. This battle will be a long one," Carl murmured to himself.

"No, it won’t. I’ve got a way to make sure they can’t hold their defensive position for long," Andrew said as he extended a hand, conjuring a fireball the size of a human head, which floated in the air. "A fire spell in the middle of their formation will disrupt them."

"It’s a mage! That cloaked figure is a mage!" the opposing soldiers cried out in alarm.

"Your Majesty, answer me! Will it be war or peace?" Gray asked again.

"Why waste words with this scoundrel? Just kill him to sate our anger!" Gene II shouted.

Instantly, the White Fox Army erupted in an uproar.

"Charge! Charge! Charge! Charge!" The chant grew louder, wave after wave.

The Golden Snake Army’s soldiers at the front line were already beginning to falter. After all, there were countless legendary tales across the continent, but living legends within reach of their own swords? Those were rare indeed. Everyone knew of Gray’s exploits. No one wanted to face the undefeated Silver Moon Knight Order in battle.

"Levi still hasn’t made a move," Arthur reminded once more.

Panic began to spread through the army, even infecting Lusien V. Clutching the hilt of his sword with one hand and the reins with the other, sweat dripped steadily from his forehead. He gritted his teeth, strained his nerves—but still refused to yield.

"Your Majesty, this is my final question!" Gray shouted, his raised sword beginning to tilt downward. "I urge you to answer—war or peace!"

Hearing this, Lusien V swiftly raised his hand. However, just as he was about to speak, his figure abruptly froze. Through the corner of his eye, he noticed Levi had started moving!

Yes, Levi had started moving! He rode his horse forward slowly, heading toward the Golden Snake Army.

"War!" Lusien V gritted his teeth, drew the longsword at his waist, and shouted, "If you deem this war unavoidable, then I choose war! I, Lusien V, ruler of Fides, stand firmly with the Pope! Even as a Holy Knight, you cannot force a contest rejected by the Church upon me!"

Levi’s horse picked up speed as he galloped toward the Golden Snake Army’s defensive line, only stopping when he reached their front line. He turned his horse around, positioning himself between Gray and the Golden Snake Army, drew his longsword, and looked up with a smile, a challenging gaze fixed upon Gray.

There was no longer any room for reconciliation.

Every pair of eyes widened, including those of Shelley, Gene II, and Camilla.

Gray’s sword slowly lowered.

"Silver Moon Knight Order! Charge—!"

In the next moment, Gray, along with every member of the Silver Moon Knight Order, dashed forward like arrows loosed from a bowstring. Behind them surged the thunderous charge of the Dwarf Army.

A mere force of 150 troops carved long tracks into the earth.

Everyone stretched their necks to watch the scene unfold.

Lusien V’s heart pounded in his throat. Levi turned his head to glance at him and gestured for calm.

"Disperse—!" Gray shouted from the lead.

Suddenly, the Silver Moon Knights broke into two arcs, sweeping around to avoid the Golden Snake Army’s spear formation. Only Gray continued charging forward.

Amid thunderous gunfire, the dwarf musketeers completed their first volley. Bullets even grazed Levi’s temples. Soldiers behind him collapsed, but Levi remained unscathed.

Andrew, who had dismounted to stand alongside the dwarves, hurled the first fireball. It sailed over Levi’s head, landing amidst the Golden Snake Army and eliciting wails of agony. The Golden Snake Army’s formation began to unravel.

Levi, motionless and smiling, stood astride his horse. He reacted not even when Gray streaked past him.

As always, Gray granted himself three layers of acceleration, three shields, and three layers of strength, barreling into the Golden Snake Army’s spear formation with reckless abandon, forcefully charging toward Lusien V.

Lusien V was already terrified, retreating deeper into the protection of his guards.

"Levi! What are you doing? Why aren’t you stopping him?" he shouted, but Levi remained silent.

The Silver Moon Knights had begun to circle the Golden Snake Army, mowing down the outer ranks. The Golden Snake Army’s morale visibly crumbled.

"The time is right." Standing with his back to the charging Gray, Levi let out a long sigh and spoke softly, "Can you deliver a message for me? Just to him."

"Of course," Julian replied quietly.

Moments later, a voice resonated in Gray’s mind: "Gray, idealism alone isn’t enough to change the world. Ideals won’t solve real problems. Didn’t you object to me calling your followers ’dark creatures’? Let me show you reality. Reality is this: even under the Holy Spirit’s covenant, they remain dark creatures. That’s because the terms of the covenant are not based on faith but on race. If they voluntarily attack humans—especially humans under the Pope’s protection—then no matter who they serve, as a Holy Knight, I have the authority to invoke angelic power and execute them!"

In that instant, amidst the fierce battle, Gray froze in his tracks, slowly turning to look back at Levi.

At this very moment, Levi was also staring at him, smiling. Behind Levi, Julian had revealed his true form.

But that wasn’t all—Gray suddenly sensed three other powerful presences.

The entire Silver Moon Knight Order, including the Silver Moon Knights, dwarves, and Andrew, ceased all action. Even Vivian and Catherine stood frozen in shock.

In three other directions around the Golden Snake Army’s position, knights clad in armor similar to Levi’s appeared, mounted on horseback. Behind each of them floated an angel, majestic wings extended and radiating gentle light.

For a moment, the entire battlefield erupted in uproar.

The Church’s four Holy Knights had all assembled! In fact, it could be said that every Holy Knight across the continent was now present!

This was a four-versus-one confrontation.

The smile faded slowly from Levi’s face as he spoke softly, "Today, we will settle the Silver Moon Knight Order once and for all."
