The Lich of Glory Knight Spirit: Moving towards Krimasha! -
Chapter 113 - 41: A New Command
Chapter 113: Chapter 41: A New Command
Underworld, the Abyss.
The lava flowed quietly, casting everything in a dull red hue, with the rolling heat waves distorting the view.
In the long tunnel, surrounded by hard black rocks,
Tavia led Zeda and Vivian along the suspended walkway within the tunnel, curving semi-arcuately upwards. Figures formed by flames floated around, resembling some kind of creature or perhaps some peculiar phenomenon of the Abyss.
Although Zeda was already considered extremely tall and burly among the three, walking on this walkway still made him seem small.
After a long while, a stone door finally appeared ahead. The entire thirty-meter-wide tunnel was sealed by this gigantic stone door, bearing a huge sculpted demon face. The suspended walkway they walked on was the tongue of this sculpture, leading directly through the slightly open mouth to the other side of the door.
"Tavia, Zeda, Vivian greet you!" a hoarse voice roared.
With a rumbling sound, the face of the demon sculpture split open from the middle.
What lay before them was an underground space with a diameter of a thousand meters, shaped like an egg.
Lava flowed down from the dome along the rock walls, providing illumination in the underworld, gathering into a red sea below the walkway.
The surrounding rock walls were embedded with balconies, with a demon standing on each one.
Some had single horns, some had double horns, some had bull horns, others had sheep horns, and some had no horns at all.
Some had red skin, some had black skin covered in scales, and some had skin resembling human color.
Some had flesh wings, some had black feather wings, while others had no wings at all.
Some had sharp tails like Tavia, some had lizard-like giant tails, looking overall monstrous. Of course, there were also those like Vivian who had no tails, typically succubi.
Unlike angels, demons’ appearances resembled a chaotic stew, showcasing every kind of strange look imaginable.
In the center of the space, above the vast lava sea, a mass of rolling black mist floated. Within the mist, countless eyes seemed to be staring, like numerous souls entangled together, tearing, devouring, and growing.
Every demon in the hall gazed at the trio.
The door behind them closed with a boom.
The three of them bowed humbly as they walked forward, till they reached the end of the walkway and knelt before the mass of black mist.
"Second-class Demon Tavia, with first-class Fallen Demon Zeda and apprentice Fallen Demon Vivian, greet the Demon Lord!"
"Rise." One of the "balconies" detached from the rock wall, floating before the trio, hovering on the right side of the black mist. Standing on it was a towering demon, twice as burly as Zeda.
Huge bull horns, eyes as fierce as a hawk’s, a big nose, a mouth full of fangs, massive red flesh wings, and a tail resembling a dragon’s.
The muscles on his body looked like they could burst at any moment.
"Thank you, Demon Lord." Tavia crossed her hands in front of her chest and saluted the black mist, then stood up.
Zeda and Vivian followed suit, saluted, and stood up.
The bull-horned demon asked in a voice akin to a beast’s roar, "We heard there were some unexpected events regarding the mission assigned to you, to induce the fall of the Lich Knight. Is that correct?"
The voice echoed repeatedly in the vast space.
Tavia glanced at Zeda.
Zeda understood, nodded, stepped forward, and respectfully said, "Yes. As the executor of the mission, I initially attempted to induce faith confusion in the Lich Knight by pitting divine power, royal power, and the faith of the Lich Knight against each other, thereby guiding him towards a fall. However, things took an unexpected turn. When the conflict arose, the Lich Knight did not exhibit faith confusion but smoothly transformed into a saint. *I never knew liches could transform into saints. After that, things started deviating from the original track. As the executor of the mission, I became helpless. Hereby, I apologize for my incompetence.*"
"No, you don’t need to apologize. In fact, none of us knew liches could transform into saints. He is the first of his kind; perhaps he won’t be the last," said a demon with two ram horns softly.
"We don’t care about the original mission anymore," said a female succubus, resembling an adult Vivian, with a voice full of allure. "Do you think he still has the potential to fall? He is the first Lich Saint, and his transformation speed was faster than any other saint. We want to know if he can fall like others or if he is different and capable of falling."
After a brief silence, Zeda said loudly, "I’m afraid I’m unable to answer that question. His actions always surprise me. *Despite following him for half a year, I feel I still know nothing about this new species.*"
"What about you, Vivian? Can you answer this question?" the succubus asked.
Vivian blinked and shook her head. "I don’t know either."
A demon resembling a lizard flicked its tongue like a snake and said, "Maybe we should discuss with the Lich Council and directly bring him back to cut him into pieces for research. That way, we’ll surely get a precise answer. A minor lich probably won’t matter to the Lich Council."
"You better ditch that idea," said a demon that looked like a standing frog with flesh wings, murmuring. "The Lich Council has four hundred members but no leader. The last time we reached the ’Grey Robe Accord’ with them, it took twelve hundred years. You never know what’s in those skeletons’ heads; sometimes you don’t even know what language they’re speaking. *I want nothing more to do with them or any relations at all.*"
"This sounds as awful as having added a new Lich Envoy and a new Lich Knight," complained a demon hanging upside-down like a bat.
"Yes, awful indeed, nothing could be worse," said the frog demon, spreading its hands. "Although we once assumed that if he fell as a saint, we could accept him. But honestly, we’d rather he never appears here; otherwise, our meetings might never end."
"Your name is Vivian, right?" A strange voice arose, sounding like countless people screaming, sharp, with an echo.
"Yes! I am your servant, Vivian! My Demon Lord!" Vivian was startled, quickly stepped forward, and bowed respectfully.
The massive shadow rolled swiftly and spoke in that eerie voice, "I’ll ask you this differently. Having interacted with the Lich Knight for so long, in your judgment, under circumstances without interference, does the Lich Knight have a high chance of naturally falling in the struggle against the church?"
"No... no such indications at the moment!"
"None at all?"
"Yes, regrettably, none at all. In fact, even with our interventions, no signs of him falling can be seen. His faith is growing stronger."
"Good," the voice said, "From today onwards, you are promoted to Demon Envoy, authorized to report directly to me. The Lich Knight will be categorized as a Demon Envoy, and you will be appointed as his inducing demon."
Vivian opened her eyes slowly, stunned. Not only her, but Zeda and Tavia were also stunned, their eyes wide open as they looked at the huge shadow. The surrounding demons seemed calm, as if they had already anticipated this decision.
An over 2500-year-old young succubus was officially appointed as a Demon Envoy, directly reporting to the Demon Lord—this was unprecedented in the Abyss.
Of course, the most bizarre was the Lich Knight being categorized as a Demon Envoy.
Vivian stammered, "But... but he hasn’t fallen."
"Does one have to fall to become a Demon Envoy?" the voice replied.
"This..."
"Excellent Demon Envoys, we have many, lacking one isn’t an issue. Fallen knights have also existed in the past. The symbolic meaning outweighs the actual significance. The Lich Knight, only in the position of a knight can truly demonstrate his value. I need you to guarantee the purity of the Lich Knight’s faith, ensure his identity remains hidden, and not induce his fall."
Vivian was completely dumbfounded; she could hardly believe what she was hearing. Zeda and Tavia beside her were equally shocked.
The voice continued, "An exposed Lich Knight, or a fallen Lich Knight, even a fallen Lich Saint, can only cause temporary faith chaos on the continent. *But if we can split the church into two factions adhering to different principles, the impact will be long-lasting. That’s our genuine need, practical benefits.* I require you to maintain his pure faith so that Heaven’s people can never grasp him."
Vivian listened blankly.
Zeda and Tavia were both dumbfounded.
"I understand it appears simple, rarely needing any actions—at least for now. But never forget the greatest obstacle: his pact with the Holy Spirit. Once his true identity is revealed, whether he falls or not, Heaven will have the right to persecute him according to the pact. Therefore, I demand you ensure his identity remains concealed at all costs."
"At all costs?" Vivian asked blankly.
"Yes, at all costs, including our agreement with Heaven. Even if you violate it, I will use my Demon Lord authority to invoke special provisions to protect you. But there is a condition. After violating the agreement, you must evade pursuit by the Angel Army and return alive to the Abyss. Furthermore, you must assist him within your capabilities as much as possible in his confrontations with the church. Do you understand my intent? *We need a strong, devout Lich Knight who perfectly hides his identity’s secret.* Not an average fallen lich."
"Vivian understands! Vivian is grateful to the Demon Lord!"
"Alright, report to your Demon Envoy. Do well, and you shall receive endless rewards."
"Yes!" Vivian respectfully prostrated herself again, bowing.
"March to Krimasha, Volume Two: Lich Knight" [End]
