Chapter 198: Chapter 143 The Evil Spirit in the Stone Jar
Having repeatedly entered and exited too much previously, Rod had been in Wise Man Mode these past few days, and the mere thought of entering the Dream Realm had made him extremely nauseous. Moreover, his soul and spirit were also very fatigued, with significant aftereffects from the "Awakening."
Just as he had recovered a bit, Rod immediately returned to the Dream Realm.
There were no changes in the Dream Realm, except that there were numerous Sun Stones, Red Jade, True Silver, Soul Red Crystals, and Potions scattered all over the place.
Looking at these heaps of resources, Rod’s smile was so wide that it almost split his face. He moved them all to the corner of the cabin, piling them up with the previously remaining supplies.
Afterward, Rod walked into the cabin, and the heptadecagonal pattern on the back of his hand boiled up, transforming into a mass of white mist that shot out and entered the cabin.
A white glow enveloped the cabin, and after it dissipated, a rocking chair had appeared in the otherwise empty cabin.
But aside from that, there seemed to be no other changes.
Rod approached the rocking chair and gently touched it, and a line of information popped into his mind.
[Wooden Rocking Chair]: Used for the rest of the Spirit, restoring mental tranquility.
It seemed somewhat useful.
Rod tried sitting on it, and the chair started to rock gently. It faced the front door of the cabin, and although the outside was just a foggy emptiness, there was still a serene feeling of an old man who had put aside everything and was basking in the tranquility of his twilight years.
After sitting for just a few minutes, Rod felt his spirit had become somewhat more comfortable.
Perhaps later he could try sleeping in the Dream Realm.
Standing up, he checked the stone platform and discovered there were two new formulas on it.
[Goddess’ Tears]: Purifies toxins, partially resolves corruption, removes curses.
Requires one Perfect Tear Stone, three Starlight Fragments.
[Illusion Belt]: Disguises appearance.
Requires a dose of Humanity, ashes from any Ghost Spirit.
——
Still pretty useful.
Rod left the stone platform and came to the bookshelf, noticing significant changes in its appearance; it had become bigger and sturdier, covered in many strange spirituality patterns, and there was an additional book on it.
Rod reached out, and the moment he touched the bookshelf, three lines of information directly appeared in his mind.
[Miracle Bookshelf]: Used to store and restore Miracle Books.
[Book of the Past] (Damaged): Allows one to see images that have faded into the annals of history.
[Book of Knowledge]: Records, completes, and corrects acquired knowledge. To obtain knowledge outside the Dream Realm, requires spirituality items to compensate for the consumed power.
Rod felt slightly surprised. Had the Dream Realm become more friendly, possibly due to its increased completeness?
He took down the Book of the Past.
This was also a large book, but its cover was grey. Opening it, the pages were also entirely blank.
But the means of using it had already appeared in his mind. Rod took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and used his senses to interact with the Book of the Past he held.
Soon, half a circle appeared in his mind. He channeled Spiritual Energy into it, but the mental link immediately broke.
Rod opened his eyes to see the book’s pages flipping rapidly as though blown by a strong wind.
Suddenly, it stopped; a picture appeared on the page showing a 45-degree angled view of the cabin in mid-air. The scene was exactly the cabin, and the figure was himself, taking a book from the shelf, which suddenly began glowing and rapidly flipping pages.
The image ended there, and a line of information emerged in his mind:
The Land of Dreams, not traceable.
Rod nodded slightly; the Dream Realm was indeed special.
But it should be fine in the material world. Although the Book of the Past couldn’t be taken out of the Dream Realm, it could still be used directly in the mind.
The method of how to use it was also imprinted in his mind.
After studying it briefly, Rod felt slightly disappointed.
The book was not very useful; the further back in history it traced, the more Spiritual Energy it required. If over thirty years, it needed specific era-related items to anchor the time. With his current level of Spiritual Energy, he could manage only a few years.
Given that the histories here spanned thousands of years, it was impossible for him to use it to find treasures or anything of that sort.
If only he had the Book of the Future.
Rod thought silently.
He put back the Book of the Past and took down the Book of Knowledge, unexpectedly discovering it had also undergone significant changes.
Its cover had become more ornate, each pattern turning pure gold, and the words "Book of Knowledge" shone brightly.
A line of information transmitted through his mind, and Rod learned that the previous Book of Knowledge had also been incomplete. After being completed, the concept of "knowledge" it embraced had expanded, meaning it could answer more questions now.
Rod immediately asked about methods of communicating with living souls.
But the Book of Knowledge still displayed that it required twenty Red Jades.
Seems almost useless, hardly different from answering questions for free.
Rod fed twenty Red Jades into it, receiving a brief response:
"Adjust the frequency of your Spiritual Energy to match the corresponding soul’s frequency." along with the method of adjustment.
That simple?
Lucky the Red Jade was a friendly gift from Manolo Bana; otherwise, it would have been quite painful.
Better deal with the soul matters first.
Rod thought.
He approached the Soul Altar and lightly touched Gregor’s soul.
Several days had passed since the incident at the Judgement Court, and his soul had quieted down, no longer hearing any voices.
Rod adjusted his Spiritual Energy according to the method in the Book of Knowledge until he resonated with the other’s soul.
"Gregor, can you hear me?"
A roaring sound erupted within this despicable soul.
This was the voice transmitted after the Spiritual Power Resonance, carrying a strange and grand sensation.
An ecstatic response immediately resounded within Gregor’s soul.
"My lord! Is it you? You’ve finally come! Please rescue me! Save me! I will serve you forever! I will always crawl at your feet!"
He completely failed to recognize me, nor did he know his current state.
Rod thought.
Perhaps it was for the better.
After a moment, he said in a sinister tone, "Gregor, your lord can no longer save you. Your soul is in my hands, and what you say next will determine whether you regain freedom or become my snack."
Gregor eagerly shouted, "I agree to any conditions you propose!"
"Then, I will first test your loyalty. Tell me about your past deeds."
Gregor immediately began to speak incessantly, seemingly tortured by loneliness to the brink of madness, and any form of communication with an intelligent being became a form of relief.
He detailed all his past actions, not missing any detail, and did not forget to explain that everything he did was done to destroy humanity and welcome a greater existence.
Rod listened for a long while, impressed by the significant contributions Gregor had made to the Trolian cause.
He had completed numerous high-threat missions, assisted his teammates at critical moments to kill powerful monsters numerous times, and had masterfully used his characteristic "Prison Cage," proving himself a highly intelligent combatant.
However, as the battles dragged on, Gregor increasingly felt the insignificance and helplessness of humanity. There were always monsters in the darkness much stronger than them; each monster they faced had a Spiritual Power Level three levels above theirs, meaning the monsters had nine times their Absolute Spiritual Power Strength.
Gregor grew more disillusioned, feeling that humanity had no chance of survival, that any victory was merely a fleeting firework, and his faith dissipated like fireworks as the endless fierce battles continued.
Until one day, a Doomsday believer from the Descender Sect found him and spoke to him of their ideal blueprint. Gregor was immediately moved and established a new dream, joining the Descender Sect and quickly becoming one of its high-ranking members.
Afterward, everything he did was to aid the Descender Sect in realizing their ultimate dream—welcoming the arrival of a great being known as "Old Day Dominator" and transforming into the new dark humans of a new era.
From Gregor’s words, Rod learned a great deal of information about the Descender Sect and its personnel. They were closely aligned with the Polluter Sect, thus he also obtained quite a bit of information about the followers of the Polluter Sect.
What surprised Rod was that Gregor’s attack on Sword Pass was not aimed at him, nor was it for malicious destruction. This directive came from the highest echelons of the Descender Sect, and only he knew the real intention behind it.
Unfortunately, Gregor did not know who this highest authority was.
After listening, Rod said in a cold tone, "Gregor, I will verify the truth of what you’ve said. It would be in your best interest not to deceive me."
Gregor shouted, "Gregor would never deceive a great being, may my lord come soon to save the suffering humanity."
Rod disconnected the soul link, planning to report this information to the Internal Affairs Court as soon as he left the Dream Realm.
But before that, he needed to locate the place of the evil ghost pattern on the back of his hand.
Rod began to wander in the Dream Realm.
As he approached the left side of the cabin, the back of his hand warmed up, and an idea struck Rod—this was the place.
Raising his hand, the evil ghost pattern transformed into a cloud of black mist and soared out, landing in a corner by the wall of the cabin.
As the black mist dissipated, a large black cauldron appeared in the corner.
What is this?
Rod approached curiously.
Suddenly, a skeleton-thin evil ghost crawled out of the cauldron and opened its mouth wide at him.
Rod was startled, but he quickly realized the evil ghost had no intention of attacking him, so he cautiously approached again and gently touched the edge of the cauldron.
[Evil Ghost Stone Tank] (Damaged)
[Thirsty Soul]: Feed with humanity to produce Evil Ghost Stones.
Evil Ghost Stone?
Rod decided to give it a try. He was not lacking in humanity; the Obelisk was full with 1000 points of humanity, and there were at least a hundred portions of humanity scattered around outside, plus two Flower of Humanity.
Rod placed the humanity and Flower of Humanity in the storage, took out fifty portions, and fed them one by one to the evil ghost, which opened its mouth like a chick.
The evil ghost devoured them with great relish.
After feeding thirty portions, the evil ghost spit out a pure black stone and withdrew back into the cauldron.
Rod picked up the stone.
[Evil Ghost Stone]: Formed from the fresh blood of an evil ghost, serves as a core of power that can act as a carrier for the soul, but also grants great strength. However, the user will be observed by the evil ghost, and over time, their soul will ultimately be devoured by it.
Damn.
What use is this thing?
Rod was quite disappointed. Although he had plenty of humanity, thirty portions were not insignificant—that was equivalent to three hundred points, and all he got was this thing; it felt like a loss.
Perhaps this "carrier for the soul" might be useful somehow.
Rod placed the Evil Ghost Stone into storage and left the Dream Realm.
He wrote down all the information obtained from Gregor on a piece of paper, but did not send it out immediately because he had not yet figured out how to explain the source of the information.
Just then, someone knocked on the door of his dormitory.
Rod put away the letter, opened the door, and saw Dean Vera and Mina standing outside.
"The ceremony for the advancement of Spiritual Energy is ready. Come with us," they said.
