The Last Gentleman
Chapter 542: 540: Peeping

With the death of the Acting City Lord, Dugall,

a large portion of the liberated rat citizens chose to pack their bags and embark on a journey outward. Wishful of life or resigned to death, they only hoped to see the outside world, for they had had enough of this corrupt and chill city.

But some opted to stay within the city, gathering at the ruins of the Plague Bed and attempting to gulp down the Plague Original Liquid flowing between the ground, wishing to achieve Open Source.

Even more so, some actually found a large hole at the center of the rubble and crawled into the cave deep, filled with corpses.

Just as these greedy rat citizens had crawled deep into the cave, ready to gnaw on the remains of the plague giant, and suck the green rot sipping between the corpses,

Buzz!

A sensation of being watched emerged from the darkness,

several rat heads lifted, as if they saw countless green eyes in the darkness watching over them.

"Chitter~ Could Lord Dugall actually not be dead?"

Invading the Plague Bed was a grave crime. Terrified out of their wits, the rat citizens prepared to flee the cave as fast as they could.

As they turned to run, however, everything before them plunged into pitch darkness.

It wasn’t that someone had turned off the lights, but that their eyeballs had all been stripped away in an instant... All the eyeballs in the underground cave, whether belonging to the dead or the living, converged towards a certain direction on their own.

Driven by instinct, the eyeless rat citizens still managed to crawl out, but each one had been scared stiff, fleeing the city like mad.

Whoosh whoosh~

At this moment, the Plague Rain that had gradually ceased suddenly intensified, and even green lightning streaked across the sky.

All signs seemed to suggest that the Green Prime Minister, Dugall, might not have died at all, and had even become more formidable.

Whether they were the rat citizens scavenging among the ruins, those spread out in other areas of Rat City, or even those who had already left the city, all sensed a penetrating observation that reached into their hearts, forcing them to look up.

In the clouds where Plague Rain fell violently and lightning flashed incessantly, something appeared to be slowly emerging. After a moment, an enormous eye appeared, gazing down at everyone.

The giant eye shot a beam of green light directly down into the deep pit,

and within the column of light,

a mysterious figure enshrouded in a cloak slowly rose.

Behind his head, four distinctly different eyeballs rotated at a uniform speed,

The second eye that had just been activated was plague-green, bringing a sense of dread even worse than that of Dugall, as if one would turn into a pool of plague pus simply by being gazed upon by this green eye.

As the four eyeballs slowly converged into the mysterious person’s hands, they flowed back into the body underneath the skin of the arms,

The downpour ceased, the Thunder Light dissipated, and the giant eye vanished as if it were an illusion.

The rat citizens kneeling around tried to stealthily peer at the face under the hood, only to realize that this mysterious person was not Dugall, but a stranger with a face covered in ember patterns and full of eyes, feeling that one more glance would set them on fire and burst their bodies.

"Huff..."

Prophet Form’s little Grape took a deep breath, the second core body inside him now activated, and a portion of his memory had also been completed.

His overall capability had also reached the Open Source Limit, his growth path seemed different from that of an ordinary Patient, and even he himself did not know what state he would reach when all the corpses were activated.

Floating in the air, little Grape had no intention to linger, glancing around before quickly Locking on to the Villa made of flesh pieces thousands of meters outside the city.

He extended his arm forward, his finger flicked!

A green Plague Eye shot out at great speed,

Immediately after, he followed suit, stepping on the green eye emblematic of the plague, traversing the air.

As the eye’s tail emitted green exhaust, it accelerated continuously with a swoosh, carrying little Grape directly into the peculiar villa.

He landed steadily, his hands still on his hips.

"Haha! I have now activated my second core ancient corpse, there’s no need for any illness cultivation to directly achieve Open Source Limit; next, I shall start to seek and complete the Path!"

However, William and Jin merely glanced at him before turning back to continue their conversation.

This made Grape very uncomfortable, and even considered impulsively running away. Just then, during the casual conversation, William suddenly exclaimed loudly:

"There might be no time to rest during the next Abyss exploration. Grape, do you need a rest?"

"This Grape just finished a grand feast, how could I possibly need a rest? Let’s set off right away."

"Good! Jin and I have already discussed it, and she will join us to the Abyss.

However, before we officially set off, there’s one thing we need to take care of. Grape, your Pupil Skill must have improved a lot, right? We need you to ’take the lead’ on this."

"What is it?" Grape sensed something was amiss and didn’t immediately agree.

"You saw it when you were in Rat City, that tallest tower, the Dark Moon Tower.

With your current vision, can you see inside it? You don’t need to do too much. Just confirm if the ’second City Lord’ from the legends is still alive in there.

We’ve made such a big fuss this time, we’ve even broken the structure of Rat City, and a lot of the rat folk will leave because of this, yet the tower has shown no response.

I suspect that the city lord from the rumors has long since died inside due to wounds left from the war. I need you to help confirm this."

As soon as Dark Moon Tower was mentioned, Grape’s eyes became alert, "What’s there to confirm? Since the person doesn’t care about the changes in Rat City at all, why don’t we just leave? Whether he’s dead or alive has nothing to do with us."

"No... If this legendary ’Moon Rat’ is still alive, I want to meet him. And Jin is also very interested in this Knight from ancient times."

"Cough cough~ Alright then! But let me be clear, I’m only responsible for observing through a perspective view, and I’ll only take a quick glance. I won’t help with anything that follows."

Listening to Grape’s somewhat unconfident reply, William pressed on with a question: "Grape, you must have sensed something during your breakthrough, right? That’s why you were in such a hurry to leave Rat City to find us instead of staying in place to consolidate.

There is something inside that tower that scares you, right?"

"I didn’t look, it’s just instinct that made me refuse to peek at that tower... But since you’re begging earnestly for my help, I’ll reluctantly agree this one time."

"Thanks, Grape."

In speaking, Grape instantly transformed into the most common scarf form, following the action.

As everyone left the temporarily constructed villa, the villa itself was retracted following Jin’s footsteps, turning back into a small lump of flesh within her body, achieving perfect recovery.

They also hurried back to the city on foot, and while running, William asked Jin out of curiosity:

"Jin, I heard that Knights should also have corresponding mounts, right?

I saw three knights with cancerous mounts matching their attributes outside the circus last time. Don’t you have one yet?"

"Not yet, after all, I’ve only been a Knight for less than a week.

Cancer Palace, unlike Original Tomb, always has resources like Dead Horses, which one can obtain just by passing some test.

To create our mounts, we need to prepare various precious materials, even including a healthy servant spirit, preferably a strong animal spirit.

I hope I’ll find something in this Abyss exploration~ But well... I wouldn’t mind a rat spirit’s soul either, hehe."

William caught Jin’s hint, "Jin, it’s better not to set your sights on the rats of the Dark Moon Tower; let me do the negotiation first."

"What if the other party is unwilling to negotiate and has fallen into madness due to the Abyss’s erosion; then I can take action, right?"

"We’ll see about that when we meet the other party."

Upon returning to Rat City, thanks to Grape’s series of actions, the entire Inner City District was already deserted.

When they arrived in front of Dark Moon Tower and looked up at the towering and extraordinary structure piercing the clouds,

Even Jin felt some unknown oppressive force at that moment, as if the whole tower was weighing on her heart, leaving her somewhat breathless.

The eyes on the surface of the scarf emerged, and as veins of ember-like scars spread across the eyeballs, the vision reached its maximum value.

The Sealing on the surface of the tower was slowly penetrated by Grape, peering into the deep and pitch-black interior,

Peering at a strand of silver-white hair,

A pair of completely lifeless eyes,

And the Dark Matter that faintly flitted between the pupils.
