The Last Gentleman -
Chapter 525: Destination
When faced with a crucial Abyss decision, William didn’t hold back and decisively ate the remaining half of the "Luck Meat," closing his eyes to fully experience the process of chewing, swallowing, and digesting.
As the meat’s components flowed through his bloodstream, William, with eyes still closed, spun the Old World model like a ’globe,’ gently pressing his index finger on it.
When the spinning stopped, and William opened his eyes,
"Huh? What’s going on... Could the meat have expired?"
Even Jian, sitting opposite, was somewhat bewildered because William’s index finger had not landed on any mark of the Abyss but, instead, on an undistinguished area of barren land.
"Maybe you weren’t in the right state of mind, close your eyes and try again," suggested Jian.
With Jian’s reminder, William closed his eyes once more, recalled the feeling of being at the bottom of the Abyss, and spun the model in front of him again.
Stop and open eyes.
The index finger still landed on the same spot,
If one could say the Luck Meat did not take effect the first time, then pointing to the same location twice in a row was worrisome."This... Mr. Jian, is it possible that the area my finger landed on contains an undetected[Tenth Abyss]that you are unaware of?"
"It’s possible, as my last trip was half a year ago. The Old World, without the protection of the Evil Sun, breeds darkness at every moment.
Although the chance of an Abyss forming is extremely small, we cannot rule out this possibility.
Go directly to this place and have a look, and if you find nothing, come back and discuss it with me.
If you really discover an unknown[Tenth Abyss]I’m unaware of, you will have to decide for yourself whether to delve in... A newly emerged unknown Abyss may harbor dangers beyond your imagination.
If you make a choice among the nine known Abysses, I could at least provide you with some surface clues."
"Alright, I’ll go check it out first.
After all, the Duke’s meat shouldn’t have expired, and twice the same should not be a coincidence... By the way, do you still need this model, Senior?"
"Take it, I have plenty more," replied Jian.
However, William didn’t actually want to take the model with him; he could imprint the three-dimensional map of the Old World and the selected Abyss location in his memory with just one glance.
Having been given permission to use it, William spun the spherical model of the Old World once again.
This time, instead of touching it with his finger, he raised his right arm and slapped it fiercely!
Slap!
The spinning Old World model shattered under the impact, and its fragments scattered everywhere.
However, one of these quickly ejected fragments, after several ricochets, landed steadily in William’s teacup.
As the fragment rose to the surface of the tea, not just William, but even Jian across him widened their eyes.
It directly corresponded to the region William had pointed to twice before,
Jian exclaimed, "As expected of the being who even the boss pays great attention to, the Old World merchant—Duke Garrison, truly fearsome... If such luck were used to consolidate power, one could probably become the foremost in the Old World."
"In that case, I’m set on going there! Thank you for your care all this time, Mr. Jian."
Just as William was about to get up, a floating Magic Glove pushed him back down, "Now that you’ve determined your destination, there’s no need to rush, two months should be sufficient.
There is one thing I must clarify for you,
Whether it’s the ’Consciousness Abyss’ you sensed by looking into my pupil or the Abyss you experienced during the magic performance, both differ from a real Abyss.
The Abysses I have shown are purified, stripped of impurities, retaining only the raw essence of darkness.
A real Abyss is far more complex and varied; you may encounter other disruptive factors beyond darkness."
"So your Magic Cube is not an Abyss condensate?" asked William.
"I don’t have the ability to condense the Abyss into an object. The Magic Cube in my hand is just a ’token’ of my relationship with the Abyss... I gained the recognition of the darkness at the very bottom, and that Abyss regards me as its sole Favored.
Using the Magic Cube as a medium, I can harness Abyss Power anytime I need it, nothing more."
"I see."
"For the upcoming ’Journey into the Abyss,’ you’ll have to rely on yourself, as no one in the Circus can take two months off."
"Yeah! I’ll be back on time."
Having said goodbye to Mr. Jian,
William was returning to his Magic House with a brisk pace when he saw Catherine already waiting for him there, swinging her legs while sitting on the table.
"So you are setting off~ I won’t be accompanying you, are you going to be very sad?"
"No."
Catherine took off her eyeball and made a face, "Hey~ can’t you even pretend to say ’yes’? I was planning on supporting you with some good stuff, but it seems like you aren’t interested."
"What stuff?"
"Stuff that’s definitely helpful for traveling to the Abyss~ Beg me for it, and I’ll give it to you!"
"Bye."
William locked his suitcase, stood up, and left.
He hadn’t gone far when he sensed something flying toward him from behind. With a quick spin, William caught the dart-like object in his hand to find that it was actually a total of ten syringes filled with octopus ink.
"Don’t die in the Abyss! Use one of these when you feel sleepy, it will perk you up! When you come back, see if I don’t give you a proper telling-off."
"Thanks, Catherine."
As William knelt down to pack the ink-filled syringes in his suitcase, he also found a couple of used gravy injectors bound between the straps for storing syringes.
"I wonder how Jin is doing, with a high-profile Honored Tumor Knight killed, there’ll surely be some upheaval at the Cancer Palace. If Jin has already become an Honored Tumor Knight, it’s likely he might come looking for me.
Forget it... I’ll focus on the Abyss business first."
Before leaving the Circus, William made a point to visit the Zoo.
’Beast Madman-Zock’, who had taken good care of him during this time and was considered a relative in the Old World, had not even attended the final closing summary due to the special nature of his performance.
Clearly,
Even to the boss, the newly birthed First Beast was of great importance.
When he returned to the Zoo, he found it bustling with Circus employees who were dismantling and rebuilding the enclosures, seemingly to create a larger and more integrated zoo.
Approaching Zock’s Beast Cave, William discovered a layer of white mucus covering the entrance of the cave.
His Madness Brain’s sensing power penetrated it but still received no response; Zock’s Beast Madness Brain seemed to be in a state of self-imposed isolation.
"It seems I can’t say goodbye to Senior Zock; he must be engaged in some critical First Beast cultivation. It’s better not to disturb him."
After leaving behind a handwritten letter, William officially set off on his journey.
Upon reaching the exit of the Circus, he explained his two-month authorization by the boss and was personally received by a manager with the face of the Jack of Hearts.
"Lord William! The Circus Tent is currently folded and hidden within Subspace.
Please specify the area you need to go to, and we will adjust the space to get you as close to your destination as possible."
As the Jack of Hearts produced a model of the Old World, William’s finger landed on a region of the Grand Canyon not illuminated by the Underground Sun, a choice that seemed to cause the other party some distress.
"The area you selected is in a state of spatial lockdown and there are also many uncertain factors. We can only drop you off at a region a hundred kilometers away at most, to keep the Circus’s exposure risk below 0.1%.
You’ll have to manage your way to the destination on your own."
"Alright."
William understood; after all, the Grand Canyon he chose was the secret zone controlled by the Duke’s Chamber of Commerce.
Whirr!
The lifeless sky cracked open a slight gap.
William squeezed out from the minute gap in the Tent at an altitude of ten thousand meters, plummeting downward,
"Damn Sun! Do they have to be so cautious... so high up, an ordinary member would be smashed to death."
