Chapter 200: Never Alone
Chapter 200: Never Alone
DAHLIA POV
My body hurts as I tried to run and maybe that was why, because I was trying to run. I have to remember that my body wasn’t in the shape it was once before. I was so sure that I was dead. After Callum had tortured me almost to the point where I had lost my voice because I was screaming so loud, I allowed my body to disappear into that numb place. The place where I disappear to my happy place but that suddenly became a nightmare and so I took solace elsewhere.
I locked up whatever memories that I had left. Too many memories hurt and made the pain even more unbearable. So I figured if I let go of my memories, I could ease some of my pain. But then Reagan had showed up. I wanted to believe that he was just a figment of my imagination. Someone I had conjured up because I was desperate to escape the pain,
It turns out that he was indeed real. He came for me, he came for me when everyone had told me countless of times that he wasn’t coming. I had believed that and I wanted to believe that he wasn’t real, that he couldn’t have come for me but he did it and he wasn’t alone.
He had brought Nikolai, Killian and also Bjorn and a whole lot of army with him! That was enough to bring out the fire that I had buried inside.
Gripping the sword tightly, I limped through the corridor, my eyes scanning the cell where the people I had tried to escape with. I searched until I finally came across the right one. A relieved smile formed on my face but it slowly disappeared when I noticed that there was a soldier standing in front of it, his sword drawn, poised to fight.
My heart skipped a beat but I didn’t let my fear show, instead I gripped my sword and stared at him prepared to battle even though I knew I was in no condition to. The soldier seemed to know it too because he stared at me with a smirk at me before he lashed out at me. My blocking was weak, pitiful almost. But it was just enough to deflect the blade before it could slice through my body.
The soldier smirked again before he lashed out again, this time more forcefully. I blocked it again but this time around the force was so great it sent me stumbling against the wall. A grunt escaped me as I felt pain creep up my side where the bruises were still fresh.
The soldier laughed as he pressed his sword against me holding me tighter against the wall as I had nowhere to go to. I grunted as I pushed back, using all my strength to keep the sword from cutting into my shoulders.
My arms trembled with the weight at which I was using to hold back the sword. The soldier smirked at the side and she pushed back slightly. A wince escaped me as his sword sliced into my shoulder a little bit.
"Did you really think you had chance against me?" The soldier sneered down at me as his sword continued to dig into my shoulder.
A whimper was my response as I continued to push back while ignoring the stinging pain in my shoulder.
"I do admire your bravery though." The soldier said with a smirk as his eyes searched into my eyes for something that made me feel uneasy, "I guess Callum didn’t break you after all."
The sound of the name, the sound of my tormentor stirred something deep within me and I felt a surge of anger. I used that to my advantage as I pushed back at the soldier who was surprised at my sudden strength. "You are right, he didn’t." I answered him before I raised my knee and jab it into where his cock was.
The soldier grunted as he doubled over in pain with his eyes squeezed shut. Raising my sword, I used one hard and yanked him up with his hair before I jabbed my sword through his chin.
Warm blood trickled down my fingers as I twisted the sword. The soldier’s mouth fell open and I could seem my sword in his mouth which was full of blood. His eyes widened as he stared at me and I smirked making sure my face that wasn’t the one of fear but of vengeance would be the last one he saw before his soul crawled back to hell where it was originally meant to be.
I reached down towards his trousers and I pulled at the keys that were around his waist belt. Then I removed my sword watching with satisfaction as he hit the ground. Without wasting any time, I turned towards the cell and turned the key.
Groaning from the pain in my soldiers, I swung the gates open and stepped inside. The dim lighting from the moon flooded inside the prison making me see the prisoners who were busy huddled up inside. The thick stench of blood and sweat and despair hung in the air as I walked inside the cell with my sword in one hand while the keys dangled in the other.
Their eyes were wide and fearful as they stared at me, whimpers escaping their lips. I walked further my eyes doing a quick scan as I tried to figure out where I could see where a familiar face.
"Dahlia?" I heard someone call, the voice was hoarse and raspy, but also familiar.
"Branderson?" I called as I searched the crowd for his face.
I then saw him as he stepped forward a look of confusion as he stared at me. A smile formed on my face as I ran forward to go and approach Branderson. He wasted no time in wrapping his arms around me which was a wrong idea because of the injury I had sustained.
Branderson quickly released me when a whimper escaped me. He moved backwards, gently touching my shoulders as he inspected me. "Oh you foolish little girl, what have you done?"
"Quit whining old man, it doesn’t suit you old man." I said and Branderson laughed in response, it was weak but it was still filled with warmth.
Deciding that there was no time for any of this, I moved away as I looked around. "Alright everyone listen up!" I said, "There is no time, we need to get out of here fast!" I said and turned around to walk away when I noticed no one moved.
I looked back to see the prisoners were watching me with a skeptical look in their eyes. It was strange that they didn’t jump at the first chance of freedom but then I realized that we already tried it and it ended badly for all of us. Heaving out a sigh, I turned to look at them with a wry smile on my face.
"I understand that you are scared. I am too but this time around, this is our only shot at freedom." I said but they still looked like they didn’t believe me or it was that they were too scared to even try.
I gripped the sword tightly as I swallowed down the lump back in my throat. "I know what they did to you and trust me they did worse." I said with a wry smile as I scanned their tired faces, their eyes still filled with distrust. "For the longest time, I believed that I was alone. They made me believe it for months. I thought no one was going to be coming for me but they were wrong. Today is the day we make it out of here. Yes, we tried and failed but that was because we didn’t have the hellhound of Iravia with us!"
Whispers floated round the cell at the mention of the hell hound. I watched the people’s eyes widen as they stared at each other then back at him. "And he isn’t alone either, he brought the duke and the prince is with him, they’ve come for us all!"
The crowd parted ways as a girl stepped forward and I recognized her as Ilyana. "Are you telling the truth? We can finally get out of here this time around?"
I smiled at her as I nodded my head. "Yes." I said to her before I looked at her, "They made us believe that we were weak. That we were abandoned and that no one was coming for us but guess what a whole army is here for us all, so what say we get out of this place? Who’s with me?" I asked and the people slowly rose up from their seats a look of fierce determination on their faces.
"We were getting out of this hell hole." I said with a smile before I started heading towards the entrance but all of a sudden three soldiers suddenly entered, their swords raised as they stared at us with malicious grins on their faces.
"KILL THEM ALL!" One of them yelled before they ran towards us with purpose.
