Chapter 794: Chapter 794 I’m Your Uncle (2)_1
She took the initiative to hold Jiang Bin’s large hand and said, "He’s not a mixed-blood child." Then she urged, "Uncle Jiang, let’s hurry, otherwise it will be too late."
"Okay," Jiang Bin did not continue the previous topic and the two of them continued walking toward the village.
When the villagers saw Ruan Jiaojiao leading another unfamiliar man through the village, and the man’s attire didn’t suggest he was an ordinary person, there was no surprise. After all, seeing such things had become customary.
Xiu Xun’s adoptive parents’ home was located towards the end of the village; it took them about ten minutes to get there. On the way, they ran into Wa Yiting, who was tying up firewood in the threshing area—The Wa family lived just a few houses away from the Xiu family.
Wa Yiting paused when she saw Ruan Jiaojiao walking into the village from the village entrance.
Ruan Jiaojiao lived at the entrance of the village and almost never walked deep inside—this was Wa Yiting’s first time seeing her come this far in.
"You worthless girl, what are you gaping at? Didn’t you hear me calling you? Hurry up and fetch the ball for me," Wa Wen was shouting not far from her.
When Wa Yiting brought the ball to him, he turned around and saw Ruan Jiaojiao passing by the front of his house. Remembering the loss he had eaten at the Ruan family last time, he wanted to mischievously hit her with the ball but seeing the huge and fat wolf beside her, he paled in fright. Forgetting the ball that had rolled away, he turned and ran into the house.
"..." Ruan Jiaojiao, such small courage, and still thinking of doing mischief, I don’t know where she gets her confidence from.
"Are you guys friends?" Jiang Bin asked deliberately.
"Does it look like we are?" Ruan Jiaojiao replied seriously.
Jiang Bin, amused by her deadpan seriousness, continued to hold her hand and they walked on until they finally slowed down at the doorstep of Xiu Xun’s adoptive parents’ home.
Ruan Jiaojiao had rarely ventured deep into the village and had never paid much attention to the Xiu family’s home—this was her first real look at it.
Xiu Xun’s adoptive father was Xiu Jianhong, and he was the biological brother of Xiu Jianlin.
However, they had split the family assets years ago and had since become estranged.
Xiu Jianhong was skilled in a respectable trade and was an excellent carpenter. His family was considered well-off in Xiahe Village. Thus, when Xiu Xun was initially bought by the Xiu family, he was pampered for several years—eating well and dressing well. It was unlike Xiu Xi, the original child, who from the beginning had been mistreated and at eight years of age was malnourished and shorter than her.
Having enjoyed a good life, Xiu Xun naturally grew taller than other children in the village. Even though the Xiu family later had a son and started treating Xiu Xun poorly, it didn’t affect him much. He had a solid foundation and even now he seemed one or two years older than his peers.
The Xiu family’s son had been born when Xiu Xun was around seven years old and was now almost five.
Ruan Jiaojiao didn’t remember his name, only vaguely recalling his appearance because Hu Yun, Xiu Jianhong’s wife, liked to bring him along to watch TV at the Ruan family’s home.
While Xiu Xun was still working at the Ruan family’s restaurant in the city, the three members of the Xiu family were having dinner at a small table set up in the threshing area.
Aside from the cold winters, villagers generally disliked eating in the kitchen; they preferred eating outside, setting up a small table in the open space so that while they ate, they could greet people passing by. Some didn’t even bother to sit; they would just carry their bowls and visit neighbors.
Since the Ruan family was always bustling with people, there was never a need to visit neighbors to find excitement.
Ruan Jiaojiao was short and couldn’t make out what dishes they were eating, but with four dishes on the table, they must have been eating better than the average family.
