Chapter 764: Chapter 764: Returning to One’s Ancestral Roots (20)_1
Jiang Bin was scheduled for the nine o’clock train this morning, and a crowd had gathered to see him off. But suddenly, he decided not to leave, leaving everyone a bit dumbfounded.
Could it be that he was dissatisfied with the inspection work this time? Everyone was trembling with apprehension, and even more bewildering, he suddenly asked Principal Lu to take him to see the student he sponsored at the school.
What on earth was going on?
Principal Lu didn’t overthink it. Sponsoring a student through to university graduation was no small expense. Most here usually only studied up to junior high, and some, even poorer ones, may not have finished junior high, stopping at elementary school.
Principal Lu took Jiang Bin to the school and first went to the office to take out a pile of Xiu Xun’s historical grades, lavishing praise in his words: "This child is smart and willing to learn. What’s more remarkable is that he never shrinks from adversity. In the first grade, after attending for half a year, he skipped right to the third grade. That was truly impressive."
"Although our school has had many children with good grades in the past two years, those children come from families with good conditions; aside from their studies, they need not worry about anything else. Only he, under such harsh conditions, has managed to maintain such grades. It’s truly difficult. You won’t go wrong in sponsoring him; he’s bound to achieve great things in the future."
Having learned that Jiang Bin was here for the inspection work, Principal Lu spared no effort in introducing Xiu Xun to him.
Jiang Bin seriously examined Xiu Xun’s files. Because Xiu Xun was adopted, he didn’t believe the birth date listed, and estimated his age compared to his nephew’s age and found they closely matched.
"This child, is he from Xiahe Village?"
"Yes, we are poor here, but Xiahe Village is even poorer. However, in the recent few years, a few families have prospered, including the one where Xiu Xun is now working. That family is kindhearted. Xiu Xun has managed to keep going until now with their help."
Otherwise, in these times, how could such a young child find work so easily, and to receive a salary that’s even no less than that of a few full-timers? Obviously, that family harbored goodwill, which gave Xiu Xun the opportunity to continue his studies.
Xiahe Village, Jiang Bin thought of the Ruan Family which Shu Wen had asked him to help deliver things to; people from the same village should have some understanding of each other.
However, since he was not acquainted with the Ruan Family, Jiang Bin did not want to bother them rashly, especially since nothing was certain yet; he felt even more embarrassed to trouble others.
All he could do was to reach out to Zhao Li, asking her to act as an intermediary to introduce him to the restaurant owner, and thereby inquire about Xiu Xun’s situation.
But what Jiang Bin didn’t know was that the restaurant and the Ruan Family were one and the same. When Zhao Li readily agreed and took him to the restaurant, where he saw Ruan Jianguo, who had just sent Shu Jiao to school and was back dealing with business, he realized they were the same establishment.
He expressed his surprise while explaining the purpose of his visit.
Ruan Jianguo, having heard a little about Xiu Xun’s background from Ruan Jiaojiao, exaggerated a look of shock to prevent Jiang Bin from becoming suspicious.
He wasn’t foolish; an opportunity to make good connections was not to be squandered. He invited him into a private room for a detailed discussion.
Ruan Jianguo was an open book: "When Xiu Xun was sold to us by a beggar gang, he was only around two years old. Exactly how old, we really don’t know. He’s lived in this village for almost a decade. In the first few years, his adoptive parents treated him quite well, but about four or five years ago, when they thought they couldn’t have children but then had a son, that’s when this child’s difficult days began."
