Chapter 726: Chapter 726: Snatch (18)_1

"Your aunt knows you didn’t mean it, you’re hurting inside too, right?" Shu Jiao said, gently smoothing his hair.

Such tenderness was something Ruan Wei had never felt from Liao Zhaoji over the past decade or so.

Liao Zhaoji, uneducated and unaware of any grand principles, had frequently beaten them, especially whenever the topic of their sister came up. She would hit them; she would never gently smooth their hair or speak to them in such a tender tone. He even thought that when her hand reached out, it carried a fragrance with it...

Ruan Wei was very sad inside. He wished that his aunt could be his mother.

Ruan Wei nodded with tears in his eyes.

When he came back that afternoon, he ran into Liao Zhaoji again. She brought him some snacks, and he was truly overjoyed, holding them in his hand, reluctant to eat them, wanting to share them with his sister later. But as soon as he got home, Ruan Jiandang threw the snacks away, telling him that Liao Zhaoji didn’t love him at all; she only wanted to take him away because she couldn’t have sons over there!

At that moment, Ruan Wei’s heart felt like it had a huge hole in it.

He didn’t believe it and asked Ruan Jiandang for proof; Ruan Jiandang said that everyone knew, only he, the fool, didn’t.

So, his thoughts had entered a dead end.

Watching Ruan Wei nod with tears in his eyes, Shu Jiao sighed.

Then she said, "Xiaowei, if you have to blame someone for this, blame your aunt."

Ruan Wei looked over, puzzled.

"Jiaojiao didn’t know about this at first. On the day your mother came to find you, she told me right away. Your aunt, without your consent, went to snoop on your mother’s news. It was just a few days ago that she found out your mother was suddenly being affectionate in order to take you away."

"You know how much your sister adores all of you brothers. She was dreadfully afraid you’d be taken away, and she was about to tell you when your aunt stopped her."

"Do you know why?"

Ruan Wei shook his head.

"Child, think about what you’ve just done. When you’re heartbroken, you can’t think of anything else, and that’s why you lashed out at Jiaojiao, right?"

As Ruan Wei listened, guilt caused him to cast his eyes down again.

"Your aunt anticipated this, so she told her not to say anything. She’s just as precious to your aunt as you are. Your aunt can’t bear to see her sad any more than she could bear to see you sad, so your aunt didn’t let her tell you."

"It’s this matter, if there’s blame to be cast, blame your aunt."

"No, I was wrong, it was me who lost my temper," Ruan Wei said, head down, wracked with guilt.

Seeing Ruan Wei like this, truly realizing his mistake, Shu Jiao breathed a sigh of relief, then moved on to the main issue: "Alright, we won’t worry about who was wrong now, your aunt just wants to ask you one thing, Xiaowei, do you want to go live with your mother?"

This time Ruan Wei shook his head with such vigor it seemed it might fall off.

Although he longed for his mother’s love, he would never leave the Ruan family, not even in death.

"I see, then you can study in peace. You and your two brothers, you’ve all been raised by your aunt. In fact, you’re no different from her own children. Even if you don’t have a mother, you still have us, don’t you? Look at Jiaojiao, how much she loves you brothers; she couldn’t bear to part with any of you."
