Chapter 479: Chapter 479: A Little Girl Who Looks Like Her (1)_1
There was nothing else, just a chair and a barber, not even a mirror.
When they arrived, someone was already getting their haircut. The master, a man in his forties or fifties, saw them coming and said with a smile while catching a break, "Here for a haircut? It’ll be quick. You can sit here for a while now, or you could take a walk nearby and come back in ten minutes."
Ruan Jian/Guo responded, and since it was past three in the afternoon and the sun hadn’t set yet, he parked the car in the cool shade of the barber’s place, had his wife and daughter sit in the car, and went to the grocery store next door to buy four bottles of soda to bring back.
The four of them sat in the car, drinking soda and waiting for the barber.
By the time they finished their drinks, the person in front of them was done with their haircut and had left after paying.
"Who’s getting the haircut?" The barber shook the black cloth he had draped over himself to get rid of the hair clippings before coming over to ask.
His gaze finally rested on Ruan Jiaojiao.
He said with a hint of surprise, "This little girl looks so familiar. Have I seen you somewhere before?"
He even walked around Ruan Jiaojiao twice as he said it.
"Hahaha, how could that be? We haven’t been out recently; you must be mistaken," Ruan Jian/Guo laughed heartily, thinking the other person was just subtly complimenting his daughter’s good looks.
"That can’t be right. I’ve been cutting hair on this street for so many years; how could I be mistaken? I truly think she looks familiar." The barber stroked his chin, lost in thought, but couldn’t seem to remember.
Ruan Jian/Guo, hearing this, didn’t mind and instead asked Ruan Jiaojiao to show the back of her head, explaining, "My daughter fell a few days ago; the scab on the back of her head hasn’t fallen off yet. We want to cut her hair into a boy’s style. Do you think you can do it without causing injury?"
"You can rest assured, I’m skilled at this; I absolutely won’t hurt your daughter." The barber smiled, and while smiling, suddenly slapped his thigh and exclaimed, "I remember now!"
"Just some time ago, about a dozen days back, there was a little girl, pretty as a picture, just like your daughter. I haven’t seen such a pretty little girl in the villages around here. She was in a shop ahead, not sure what she was buying, with her brother. They had just finished shopping and came out. I don’t know whether it was a natural disaster or man-made calamity, but a flower vase from the house above fell, and her brother, walking in front of her, got struck by the vase right on top of his head. His head burst open on the spot, and he was smashed to death instantly. Oh, the blood, tsk tsk, it spilled everywhere. What a sin!"
"I don’t know if that little girl was scared stiff or not, but she couldn’t even cry and stood there like a wooden post, just standing there not..."
"What, what’s wrong..." The barber, who was in the middle of speaking enthusiastically, saw the little girl in front of him who had just been drinking soda with a smile, turn ghastly pale in an instant. He was startled, and promptly swallowed the rest of his words.
"Okay, okay, why talk to us about this!" Ruan Jian/Guo, noticing Ruan Jiaojiao’s face had turned white, thought she was scared by the barber’s gory description and scolded the barber, then quickly turned to comfort Ruan Jiaojiao, "Jiaojiao, don’t be scared, it’s all right, ah."
Ruan Jiaojiao’s hand holding the soda bottle was trembling. Based on the barber’s description, she was reminded of scenes she had witnessed, especially when her brother was killed in a car accident, blood everywhere, with that Ruan Jiaojiao who had occupied her body standing expressionlessly aside, coldly watching like an unfeeling wooden post.
