"Changchong, next Saturday, choose a time when no one else is at my house to come over, and I’ll introduce my family to you. They’re all very nice," Ruan Jiaojiao said. She hadn’t wanted to keep it in the past because when living there, all four rooms were occupied, and no matter how well she concealed it, it was bound to be exposed.

But living here was different.

Ruan Jiaojiao rubbed it a couple more times before lying back down. Changchong, feeling unsatisfied, nudged its big head closer, and Ruan Jiaojiao subconsciously kept rubbing it while talking. She was already getting sleepy, but because she was still excited, she kept postponing closing her eyes.

Eventually, she rubbed until she fell asleep unconsciously, and her little hand slumped down.

Changchong carefully slithered out from the palm of her hand, straightened up, and, not wanting to leave, lingered in the room for a few minutes. Seeing her being blown by a breeze and fearing she would catch a cold, it rose up and used the tip of its tail to pull the thin blanket over her, covering her up to her chest, before turning and slipping out the window.

But as soon as it closed the window, it felt a chilling presence beside it.

It cautiously turned its head to look, and sure enough, it locked eyes with the glowing green "Demon Eyes" in the darkness. Startled, it shuddered so hard that it fell from the second floor to the first with a dull thud. And yet, it didn’t dare to stay, hurriedly slithering away.

Downstairs, Ruan Jie, half-asleep, got up to check but didn’t see anything unusual, so he lay back down again, pulling his wife close into his arms.

The Ruan Family all slept soundly, none aware of anything amiss. Only Xiu Xi was still in the darkness, staring towards the back hill, pondering the possibility of driving away the annoying animals from both the back and front hills...

Ruan Jiaojiao didn’t wake up naturally but was roused by a few younger brothers.
