Chapter 166: Chapter 166: Severing Ties (5)_1
Just when Liu Mei bumped into him at that moment, he immediately pushed all his feelings of guilt and wrongdoing onto her.
"Our Xiu Family must have had eight lifetimes of bad luck to marry such a wicked woman like you!"
"Xiu Jianlin, what do you mean by that?" Liu Mei instantly became agitated, her eyes wide with anger.
Xiu Jianlin felt miserable and, unlike before, he didn’t give in to her. The couple started fighting on the short walk home, attracting a crowd of onlookers. Only the Ruan Family kept their courtyard door tightly shut, deeming even an extra glance at them as dirtying their eyes.
After the village officials left, a member of the Ruanlin Family stood in front of Xiaoxi and sighed. Squatting down beside him, she said, "Xiaoxi, you might resent Grandma now, but when you grow up, you’ll understand. Grandma is doing this for your own good."
"Understand!" Xiaoxi looked at her, his eyes devoid of resentment.
The Ruanlin woman gazed at him in astonishment, and then, realizing that this child was not ordinary, she chuckled and shook her head. She extended her hand to tousle Ruan Jiaojiao’s little head beside him and said, "Alright, Grandma will go prepare lunch for you. We need to make more delicious food today to celebrate properly."
"Okay, we’ll eat meat!" Ruan Jiaojiao said with a cheerful smile.
She genuinely felt happy for Xiaoxi.
Having escaped from the Xiu Family, and now being with the Ruan Family, he would get to experience their affection. She believed that this would significantly reduce the chances of him becoming a world-ending antagonist.
"You little glutton!" the Ruanlin woman said affectionately, playfully scrunching her little nose. Suddenly reminded of something, she asked, "Did you even get to eat breakfast this morning? Granny completely forgot. I milked some goats this morning. Let me cook it for you, wait a moment."
With that, she got up and busy herself in the kitchen.
Goat milk has a strong smell, but it can be masked with a few almonds. Add a pinch of sugar and it tastes quite nice.
Ruan Jiaojiao and Xiaoxi sat side by side, sipping the goat milk, their mouths ringed with white. Turning to see Xiaoxi sporting the same milk mustache, Ruan Jiaojiao couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
Xiaoxi laughed too.
His eyes shone with a determination and focus that others couldn’t perceive.
In the future—they would never be separated again.
Ruan Jianguo was also delighted. Though initially upset about Xiaoxi returning to the Xiu Family, all previous gloom in his heart disappeared when he saw him back in the Ruan Family.
Elated, he took the two children to the village entrance to see the house.
The construction was progressing energetically; one floor was already up, outlining the basic shape of the house.
It would feature three bedrooms in a row on the upper level along with a very long living room, with a similar layout downstairs except the living room would be a more practical central hall.
"These three rooms upstairs will be for the four of you to live in: Jiaojiao will have one, Xiaoxi another, and Ruan Jie shall share one with his older brother." Now, Xiaoxi held more weight in Ruan Jianguo’s heart than his own sons.
"The lower level shall house your granny, as well as dad and mom’s room, and the remaining room will be a guest room."
Ruan Jianguo pointed out each room to the two, having clearly arranged everything in his mind for their future.
Ruan Jiaojiao, held in Ruan Jianguo’s arms, craned her neck to get a better look inside the house as she asked him, "Which room will Brother Xiaoxi stay in?"
"Xiaoxi, which one do you like?" Ruan Jianguo asked Xiaoxi, who was on the ground.
Xiaoxi glanced at Ruan Jiaojiao and pointed to the two rooms on the east side. "Mine," he said, "and Jiaojiao’s."
"Hahaha..." Ruan Jianguo burst into hearty laughter. "You sure don’t hold back, kid." But though he said so, his eyes were full of joy, clearly very pleased with Xiaoxi’s attitude, which showed he didn’t see himself as an outsider.
