As they stepped inside, they brought a gust of cold wind with them.

Jiaojiao saw that all four of them had wet hair and their clothes were coated with snow. She had been feeling a little down earlier, but the moment she saw this, her mood shifted to one of concern. She slipped out of Ruanlin Family’s embrace, running off to the bathroom on the first floor to grab a few towels.

"Quick, wipe yourselves." She trotted back to the four of them, handing them the towels.

"Jiaojiao is so sweet." Shu Lang chuckled as he took a towel and ruffled Jiaojiao’s little head.

Ruan Jie impatiently rubbed his head with his hands a couple of times, initially dismissing the idea of drying himself. But just as he was about to say "What’s the point of wiping? No need," he caught sight of Jiaojiao’s large, watery eyes filled with worry. The words stuck in his throat, and he swallowed them back. Resigned, he began drying his hair properly with the towel.

Seeing that all of them had obediently started wiping themselves, Jiaojiao finally smiled. However, she couldn’t help but mutter in mild protest, "What were you guys doing? You were gone so long." Most of all, she was annoyed that they hadn’t taken her along.

Ruan Hao casually wiped his hair until it stopped dripping, then set the towel down. Yet, since they were still radiating coldness, he worried Jiaojiao might catch some of it and said, "Jiaojiao, go back to Mom for now. Once we’ve warmed ourselves up, we’ll come over."

"Exactly. Later, Jiaojiao will find out what we were doing. Quick, go back to your mom, and we’ll be there soon." Shu Lang chimed in, smiling mysteriously.

Jiaojiao had no choice but to return to Ruanlin Family.

Ruan Hao and the others waited by the door for about ten minutes, making sure they were fully warmed up before coming over.

Jiaojiao immediately forgot the resolution she had made earlier and happily started sharing the pine nuts she had been peeling with everyone.

The whole family sat together, watching the evening program, laughing, chatting, and snacking... Time slipped away unconsciously. As the countdown approached, Jiaojiao had nearly drifted off to sleep. Suddenly, Shu Lang stood up.

He said to Jiaojiao, "Jiaojiao, come, and see the New Year’s gift we prepared for you."

Jiaojiao’s hazy thoughts instantly cleared up. She climbed out from Shu Wen’s lap, and everyone headed toward the door. Jiaojiao put on her warm winter coat, thoroughly wrapped up against the chill, before stepping outside.

The Shu Family’s small villa consisted of three interconnected buildings, with a little lotus pond surrounded in the middle. In the center of the pond were a wooden bridge and rockery, all carefully laid out with a sense of elegance.

Although it was winter now, the snow-covered lotus pond carried its own unique charm.

However, Jiaojiao had always been wary of the water. Ever since coming to the Shu Family, she had never gone to play or walk on the pond, even when adults were present. Especially after the incident with Xin Miao, Shu Jiao had strictly forbidden her from going anywhere near water.

But now, the lotus pond—bright and radiant under the snow—was surrounded by fireworks. Even the fixed wooden boat in the center of the pond held fireworks onboard.
