Chapter 487: 486. Someone Like You (2)

"Should I kick you in the water so that you’d wash up?"

Sol didn’t even have to turn his head to look at who it was.

"Even if you kick I wouldn’t feel it," he responded bluntly before he turned his head to see the person standing behind him.

The sky behind her looked like the beautiful painted canvas of pink, purple and golden. The burnished hue of the setting sun gleamed off of her long, wavy brown hair and her blue eyes twinkled like gems as she grinned. This girl who was only 20 was the one for whom he had to come, she didn’t look like it but she was a strong person, at least mentally.

"Yeah, right, the big and strong Dragon wouldn’t be kicked down by a human."

"You’re even weaker than a human," Sol spoke making her frown.

"What did you say? Just because you’re strong doesn’t mean you get to look down on others!" She crossed her arms at her chest and he scoffed.

"Besides just take a dip already, you stink!" She spoke making a face and scrunching up her nose.

Sol looked at her, it was probably only her who could dare to talk down to him like this, nobody else ever did that.

Everyone else idolised him, saw him as a savior and only ever demanded of being protected. But whenever it started to feel like a burden he would turn his head and see this little human who would be by his side, despite being scared or hurt, she would push through with her own strength.

She was still standing there with her arms crossed.

Sol looked down at his bloodstained outfit—a deep blue coat now darkened in places where the fabric clung damply to his side, stiff with dried blood. His scarf, once the color of a clear sky, was twisted around his neck, its edges frayed and stained. The buckles of his leather harness were splattered, and the metal detailing on his belt glinted faintly in the sunlight, tainted by smears of red. His trousers bore streaks of dirt and dried crimson, especially around the knees, where he had knelt beside the stream moments before.

He sighed and started u dressing making the girl gasp.

"Hey, what-"

"What? You told me to get washed up, right? That’s what I’m doing." Sol spoke with the hint of playfulness in his voice.

"And here," he said before tossing his blood stained tunic and trousers at her making her squeal.

"What the hell are you doing?!" She shouted and Sol laughed.

"Wash them for me,"

"Hah? What do you think of me?!"

Sol laughed as he stepped into the flowing water before he smiled back at her. Though she was angry, her cheeks were flushed and her eyes glowed radiantly.

It would be a lie if he said that he couldn’t remember her. If anything, it were only her memories which were vividly engraved on his mind apart from the curse that painfully riled him up from time to time.

If not for her, he might have been dead. He never thought that he could find someone like her in his long, lonely life but now he found someone who was somewhat like her. And all he thought was how he would protect them this time.

"Oi, Sol. Are you sleeping with your eyes open?" Sol snapped back to reality as he blinked finding a hand waving before his face.

"Huh?"

He lifted his head to see Reina back in Ocean’s form looking at him with slight concern in his eyes.

"Are you all right? What were you thinking about so deeply? I’ve been calling for you for a while now but you were just staring off in the space." Ocean said and Sol blinked before he looked around the room.

"My brother left a while ago and I was going to ask if you were coming for tonight’s banquet but..." Ocean continued and Sol cleared his throat closing the book in his hand.

"I-I’m all right, I was just thinking about something." Sol responded and Ocean tilted his head.

"So, are you coming for the banquet tonight? It’s again just going to be the same but there’ll be lots of food and dancing."

Sol was still a little absentminded and he shook his head.

"I... I don’t feel like going, I’ll stay here." Sol said making Ocean’s eyebrows to jump.

Did he just say no even after hearing that there will be a feast? Who is he and what did he do with the real Sol?

Ocean placed his hand over Sol’s forehead, checking for his temperature.

"Are you not feeling well?" He asked and then held his jaw before lifting his face, "Or is it the curse again? Does it hurt? But I just healed you."

Sol blinked before he pushed Ocean’s hand away, "I’m fine, it doesn’t hurt or anything... I just don’t want to be around people."

Ocean observed Sol for a while and then sighed before placing his hand over the curly blonde locks, ruffling them a bit.

"All right, if you say so. But I’ll have to show up since Davian also wouldn’t go without me. But I’ll be back soon, all right?" Ocean smiled and Sol averted his eyes.

"Y-You don’t have to come early because of me."

Ocean was amused, "Hm? But won’t you be lonely without me? I can already see you crying."

A vein popped over Sol’s forehead, "Wh-Who the hell is crying?! I won’t be lonely without you! Don’t get too ahead of yourself."

Ocean laughed as he watched Sol before he ruffled his hair, Sol brought his hand up about to slap Ocean’s hand away but he just clenched his fist.

Ocean smiled, "All right, then. I’ll still come back soon because I’ll be lonely, hm?"

Sol clicked his tongue turning away, "Do what you want."

Ocean chortled before he stepped back.

"Also, once we return to Sestia, there will be a ball to announce about Kai to the world. I’m going to declare him as my heir, there is also another Dragon who is there but he’ll take on my work as the Underworld boss. So, I hope you also decide if you want to really stick around me or not."

Sol looked up at Ocean and then sighed, "I... I can’t stay around for a long time... I..."

Sol needed to find a way to the source of the curse, there was still time but the uneasy feeling and the sudden feeling of the curse coming alive after a long while just made him believe that the clock of doom was clicking. He needed to fix it all before everything came crashing down. He once lost it all, but he couldn’t lose what he cherished again.

Sol lifted his eyes looking at Ocean’s carefree smile before he clenched his fists, "I’ll stay for a while but just say that I’m a distant relative or something."

Ocean nodded, "All right,"

In the evening, Ocean got ready and looked at Sol who kept reading a book. He still hadn’t talked to him about anything yet, and it seemed like Sol would still need some time to open up. Ocean didn’t know what kind of battles Sol was going through or had gone through but he didn’t want to burden him if he didn’t want his help. He would wait and jump in when things would go out of hands or when Sol himself calls for help. Until then, Ocean would respect his privacy.

[The Preserver asks what’s the need for that.]

"Huh?"

[The Preserver points out that you can easily find out about Sol with Mana Eyes that have been upgraded.]

"There’s still something called privacy, I know I can just have a look and find more information but... if he’s uncomfortable then it’s plain rude to intrude."

[The Preserver finds you amusing.]

Ocean felt a vein in his head pop, whenever he read these notifications he kind of felt as if this Preserver saw him as some sort of a specimen or lab rat.

[The Preserver defends himself saying he simply finds you interesting and not as a specimen.]

"Then what?"

[The Preserver is pondering.]

Ocean sighed as he stepped towards Davian’s room, he wasn’t out yet so, Ocean simply leaned his back against the wall with his arms crossed waiting for him.

"Besides, what’s the deal with my other Patron? He has never commented or anything, is he even working at this point?" Ocean thought.

[The Preserver explains that The Eternal Ascetic doesn’t really comment over everything and that he will be giving you tasks or quests when required.]

"He might as well maintain static silence till the return of my original Patrons."

[The Preserver chuckles.]

[The Preserver explains that The Eternal Ascetic isn’t ignorant but he cherishes the silence and peace over everything.]

Ocean narrowed his eyes, "Sounds like a hermit."

[The Preserver laughs.]

"Whatever," Ocean sighed and just then the door opened.

"Hm? Why are you sighing so loudly, Master? Are you upset that I came late?"

Ocean lifted his head hearing Davian’s voice and almost felt his heart skip a beat.
