Chapter 327: 326. Founding Day Ball (4)
The crowd of people gathered around me as soon as the bestowal ceremony was done and I talked to people. They all had their own agendas which were clear even though they were dancing around it without clearly mentioning it.
I had around forty marriage proposals on the spot and more business proposals. I didn’t give them a definitive answer as I played their game better than them.
"So, when are you planning to marry, Marquis Ryujin?"
"You’re quite young so, you should start thinking of choosing a bride from a reputed family now."
"Besides, why are you wearing a mask Marquis?"
"Yes, are you trying to hide your handsome face?"
"I’m sure Marquis is breathtaking beneath that mask."
"Come on, Marquis, please remove that mask."
"Yes, we want to see your face, Marquis. Please remove the mask."
The nobles were continuously pestering me and despite my best efforts to not being outright rude, I was stuck with being tolerable.
"Why are you all pestering, Marquis Ryujin?"
I heard a familiar voice seep through the crowd and the crowd turned to look at the King who sauntered ahead with a smile on his face and a glass of champagne in his hand. I had to bow again before him and he grinned watching me as if trying to reassure himself that he was still in power. My blood shimmered again and my Dragon’s Presence urged to break free and show him his place. I controlled myself and pulled the reins over the beast that sat inside me.
"We weren’t pestering Marquis Ryujin, Your Majesty."
"Yes, we simply wanted to see his handsome face."
Roger looked at me and then smiled, "You won’t be able to digest his beauty so, don’t ask him to remove that mask."
I could sense the hinted mockery in his words which irked me. This bastard thought he was strong enough to taking a jabs at me.
"You’re quite popular, aren’t you?" He laughed and I smiled.
"Not as much as you, Your Majesty." He laughed again and then gestured towards the Queen who also walked towards us.
"Congratulations, Marquis Ocean Ryujin." She spoke with a smile, which was obviously fake.
"Thank you, Your Majesty." I said with a bow and the nobles around seemed to wonder why I didn’t ask for her hand to kiss as per the rightful etiquette.
I could have but I guess it was enough to see her like this, she would be suffering more in future.
"It’s a blessing for our kingdom to have people like you serve us, Baron-Marquis Ryujin." She said and I smiled.
"It is indeed an honor to be serving the great Majesties of Sestia, Your Majesty." I said not taking the jab that she purposely aimed at me by "accidentally" calling me Baron.
"I’m sure you are, Marquis." Roger smiled and then looked at me.
"Why aren’t you drinking? It’s the ball to celebrate not only the Founding Day but also your achievements." He said and then called over a server.
I couldn’t deny as the server came over and I took a glass, and pretended to drink nearly giving my father a heart attack.
After a while, I was once more surrounded by girls who were trying to talk to me but since I was starting to feel on the end of my patience, I couldn’t pay attention to them.
"Pardon me, ladies." A familiar voice seeped through and I looked at the source who smiled at me. It was Grand Duke Alarice Montaire.
The girls stared at him and he gestured at me, "I suppose we could talk a little now, if you aren’t too tired, Marquis Ocean."
I gratefully escaped the clutches of the girls, "Yes, indeed. I apologise for not being able to spend time with you all, ladies."
I walked with Grand Duke avoiding all the calls that I was getting and we entered the hallway and from there we walked all the way to the waiting room which had balconies across them.
Alarice stepped towards the waiting room but I looked at him, "Your Grace,"
He turned to look at me, "Yes?"
"Would you mind if we talk here? I don’t want to go in a room, I feel suffocated." I said and he nodded.
"Sure,"
We stepped towards the balcony and I closed the doors behind us before I walked over and took a seat on the parapet stone railing inhaling the cool night air.
"Careful," Grand Duke gasped as he saw me bounce and take a seat.
"It’s fine, Your Grace. Did you forget I could fly?" I asked with a smile and he sighed.
"Yes, indeed."
"Please have a seat," I gestured towards the armchairs that were in the balcony.
Alarice took a seat and looked up at me as the wind made my hair dance. I placed my glass of champagne beside me.
"You seem to be doing well," he said and I smiled.
"I can say the same for yourself," I said as I gestured at him.
He looked quite healthy and muscular now that he had regained his previous glorious body. He seemed even more handsome now.
He chuckled, "My wife talks about you often."
"I feel honoured to hear that," I said as I started swinging my legs, starting to feel relaxed.
"She also told me to ask you that if you have contacted our son yet." He said and I looked at him.
"I haven’t."
"Why?"
"I’m tired of answering to Her Grace... Young Master doesn’t need me anymore." I sighed.
"Responding to one letter isn’t tough." He said and I ran my hand through my hair.
He seemed to have sensed that I was starting to get angry. He fell silent for a while and I started to think of ways to piss off the King and Queen for daring to disrespect me.
[Goddess of Wisdom advises you to not act rashly and wait for the right moment to deliver the strong blow.]
"That’s what I’m thinking. If I had to react right away I would have just got rid of their heads."
[Defender of Divine Glory asks Goddess of Wisdom to not lead you on.]
"Lead me on what?"
They fell silent and I sighed.
"I guess, I could visit you day after tomorrow, Marquis Ryujin." Alarice said and my attention drifted back to him.
"Sure, Your Grace." I plastered a fake smile.
He tilted his head slightly before there was a knock on the door and Silas stepped in.
"There you are," he said and then looked at Grand Duke Alarice who was also there.
"Greetings, Your Grace." Silas bowed and Alarice stood up.
"Greetings, Archmage."
Silas looked in between us, "Am I interrupting you?"
He must have sensed both of us yet, he was asking that.
"Not at all, I was simply giving Marquis Ryujin some company." Alarice said and I frowned slightly.
He said he had something to say to me yet, all he did was make a small talk, what exactly did he want to talk about?
"Is that so?" Silas said before he glanced at me.
"I’ll leave now," Alarice said and then faced me, "See you soon, Marquis Ryujin and congratulations."
Alarice left leaving me and Silas behind.
"What did he want to talk about?" Silas asked.
"He didn’t get to the point." I told him and he sighed before he walked over and stood leaning his arms on the stone railing.
"Your father was worried when he saw you drink the champagne." He said and I rolled my eyes.
"I didn’t have a sip, Uncle. Look it’s untouched," I said picking up the glass.
"I know."
"Where’s he?" He asked.
"He got caught by the King," Silas said.
"And you escaped alone." I spoke looking at him and he shrugged his shoulders.
"Your father isn’t fast enough."
I sighed and looked at the sky, the stars were shimmering in the inky sky free of the troubles that living beings were going through.
"I’m sure he’s so ugly that he can’t even dare to show his face."
"That’s why he never dares to show his face during the balls."
I heard snickering and Silas and I looked down at the two men who were talking right below our balcony without knowing that there were people above them.
"Marquis, my foot! That outsider came up and took the position from our family how dare he thinks he would have it easy!"
The two distinguished gentlemen were the Viscount Jervico and Count Kliens who were bitching about me here.
Silas moved as if to do something and I raised my hand stopping him.
"It’s clear that His Majesty and Her Majesty were only supporting him because he was of use, he thinks his achievements were being rewarded."
"Such a fool to think that he would gain power amidst all of us."
I saw Silas roll his eyes and I picked up my glass brushing my hand over the invisibility brooch activating the invisibility spell. Silas stepped back as I picked up my champagne glass and poured its contents in the heads of the two men.
"What in the-"
"Who dares-"
Both of them looked up but they couldn’t see anyone, they got a bit confused and started cursing while Silas crossed his arms at his chest.
I smirked as I saw them starting to walk away wiping their faces and I created a huge water ball and dropped it over their heads dousing them in icy cold water. They started shouting and I laughed feeling a bit better while Silas smirked watching them being drenched.
"What are you going to do with the Golden Serpent and the King?" Silas asked and I stepped down from the railing deactivating the invisibility.
I looked up at him with a smirk which made me cock a brow before he smiled.
"Tell me if you need any help. I’d love to see their faces."
