Chapter 212: 211. Enter A New Pawn (2)

I woke up a couple of hours later to find the dusk settling in and Lyall who was standing in the corner with his back against the wall.

"Did you eat?" I asked and he looked up at me.

"No, Master,"

"Let’s go and eat then."

I let my feet down from the bed and he cleared his throat before informing me, "The Viscount sent a carriage for you, Master."

"Oh, good."

"But there is a little problem with the priests,"

"What? They don’t want to let me go?" I asked stretching my arms above my head.

"Yes," he said, "the priests say that you should be taken to the capital to meet the Pope and the Saint."

I chuckled as I walked out of the room with Lyall in tow, "Then what?"

"The person sent by the Viscount and the priests are currently discussing what should be done."

"Let’s see what they are up to," I announced before I walked down the corridor and reached in front of the closed doors from where the sounds of heated argument were heard.

I looked at Lyall before gesturing for him to go ahead, he stepped ahead and banged his fist on the sturdy doors making the people inside go quiet for the time being.

The door swung open and the young priest who had shown us to my room poked his head out. He looked surprised as he saw me there before he stole a glance inside.

"M-My Lady?" He gasped.

"What’s going on? I got to know from my knight that Viscount sent for a carriage but there has been some problem with the priests." I spoke sounding innocent and the priest looked conflicted before his expression shifted and he looked as if he figured something out.

"My lady, if I may, will you please present the ones inside with your views about moving to the Viscount Boltzer’s spacious and clean mansion or staying here?" He prompted and I concealed my smirk as I heard his request.

"Sure, I would love to."

His eyes gleamed before he swung the door further open and looked back at the ones inside.

"The Saintess is here!" He announced.

The old men and an unfamiliar man dressed in a proper, prim outfit straightened up and walked up to me. He had sandy brown hair with intelligent looking blue eyes that fixated on me as soon as I entered. He once looked at Lyall before he studied me.

"Earl!" An older priest shouted but the man gave no heed to him as he stopped in front of me.

"Welcome to Boltz territory, My Lady." He said as he bowed, "I am Earl Karcel Fenson. It’s a pleasure to be in the presence of such a beautiful lady."

"I’m Mirielle Clarkson, daughter of Earl William Clarkson,"

A hint of confusion fogged his eyes before he smiled and I added, "My father’s territory isn’t quite large and it’s on the outskirts so, I can understand if you don’t know about it, Earl Fenson."

He laughed awkwardly before masking his confusion and gently grasped my hand resting a kiss over my knuckles. I would ask Eric to banish this one aspect of mannerism of any Tom, Dick and Harry getting to kiss another girl’s hand when he becomes the King.

"May I ask what you are doing so far out then, Miss Clarkson?"

I smiled, "I had the healing ability since childhood but I never enrolled at the Temple because my parents and I couldn’t bear to be away when I was quite young. But now that the nation is in such dire circumstances where the need for healers is vital, I decided to do what I can to aid those who are suffering."

Fenson stared at me with wide eyes before he smiled, "Such noble thoughts! You are indeed an epitome of Noblesse Oblige, Miss Clarkson. Lord Boltzer would be thrilled to have a chance to provide you with proper meals and a good rest,"

"Sh-She is a healer, she must go to the Temple!"

"That’s right,"

"If anything, her seeking out the temple means that she is bound to have a place at the Temple." The old priest announced.

"Please don’t pass such judgements already, Father Erswin." Earl Fenson said.

"My Lord simply wants to thank the Saintess and provide her with a little better environment to stay. You cannot possibly want such a blessed Saintess to stay in such an old and dilapidated building, can you?"

He knew how to push the buttons of his enemies.

"It’s blasphemy to insult the temple of Saintess Miella and the Dragons!"

"Oh my! I simply spoke about the physical structure, Father, I never said anything that could count as a blasphemy."

Someone give me popcorn.

"The Saintess will stay here!" The old priest declared and Earl Fenson looked at me.

"What is your opinion on it, Lady?" He asked.

I looked at both of them before smiling, "I can’t stay for long int his town, since I have cured those who were infected I must move soon. So, I can have one meal at the Viscount’s place since he has extended me an invitation. It will be rude to refuse."

The priests looked defeated as I said that while the Earl’s face broke into a smile.

"Such a wise decision, but it’s sad that you cannot stay for long." He said before facing the priests.

"Now that the Lady has made her decision, I think we shall take your leave." Fenson said with a smirk.

The priests tried to stop me by saying that they would provide me with the best of what they had but Fenson didn’t let them do anything apart from just speak things.

He led me out of the temple and we faced the flashy and expensive looking carriage, he opened the door before giving me a hand.

"After you, My Lady." He spoke as I placed my hand in his stepping inside the carriage.

Lyall sat beside the coachman while Fenson got inside after me.

The sky had turned inky with the stars glittering and the crescent moon now growing little by little. The air was quite dry and chilly but it was better to travel through a comfortable carriage for a change.

"My Lord has been eager to see you ever since he heard about you, My Lady." He started and I smiled.

He went on the explain as how Lord Boltzer had been taking care of his territory and how the people adore him. He also went on the explain that he had been doing all he could to get medicines for the plague and sending letter to the Main Temple to get a healer but they only replied saying they will but never really did.

I could sense how he was subtly trying to sabotage the Temple’s image by mentioning that various other Lords also tried to get the healers from the Main Temple but they never sent anyone to help.

"You being here is God’s way of saying that he hasn’t forsaken us like the Temple of the capital." He smiled and then gasped lightly.

"Oh, my! I didn’t mean to say that the Main Temple is lacking in any sense. I can understand that they might be busy with the other administration matters."

Temples never had to look after the administration matters so much that they couldn’t look after those who asked for help from them.

I could see potential in this guy.

The carriage stopped after a while and we got out to see a tall and lean middle-aged man standing at the entrance of the mansion with a petite woman beside him. Both seemed like they were the servants on the household.

"Welcome to the Boltzer household, Saintess." The man bowed before me and I smiled.

"Please come this way, Saintess,"

The woman led me inside while the man servant took my luggage.

"My Lord has prepared a room for you to rest for the night, please come this way." The woman said.

She led me up the stairs and I saw the portraits on the walls before she stopped in front of a set of doors. She opened the doors and gestured for me to enter.

"Would you like to bath and change, Saintess?" She asked.

"Yes, please."

"Very well, I’ll arrange for your bath." She said.

After bathing and changing the maid whose name I got to know as Marlene told me that she would lead me to the dining hall for dinner with the Lord of the house.

I agreed and she dressed me into a beige dress and braided my hair back.

"Your hair is so beautiful, Saintess." She said, "I’ve never seen anyone with so light shade of blue hair before."

I chuckled, "Thank you."

"Shall we go now? Everyone must be waiting for you." She said with a polite smile and I nodded.

"Yes,"

After getting me ready, she led me out of my room and down the corridor and stairs towards the dining hall where a pudgy man with light blonde hair and round blue eyes waited for me along with a woman and three young men.

The man whom I assumed to be the Viscount smiled at me as he sat in his spot at the table.

"Welcome to our humble residence, Saintess." He smiled.

"I am Viscount Henric Boltzer, it is a pleasure to meet you."

"It is a pleasure for me too, Viscount. I’m Mirielle Clarkson daughter of Earl Clarkson."

His grin stayed as he nodded and then gestured towards the lady with brown hair and murky green eyes.

"This is my wife Beth and my sons James, Pete and Theo."
