Chapter 172: 171. Learning New Things (1)
After a few days, I got the news that Baron Oberon was detained for smuggling the rogues into the kingdom and also putting so many lives in peril.
The Baron didn’t resist when he was arrested but he did give his comment on this situation.
"I am innocent and I know the real culprit will be exposed soon. Till that time, I’ll wait in my place."
Lady Dahlia had avoided getting detained because of Grand Duke’s influence and my Grandfather strongly supporting her and also because the King knew I was siding with her despite it not being known. He was smart in that sense.
But apart from that, I was worried about my Elite team who were still static silent. I hadn’t received a word from this as a monthly report and I was getting anxious.
I was tempted to send someone but where to send and what to do was uncertain so, I couldn’t risk any more people.
"I guess, I’ll just have to wait for a bit." I mumbled but even that seemed worrisome.
What if they were in some trouble and each passing minute was crucial?
"Damn it!" I groaned running my hand through my face.
"What’s wrong? Are you worried about Lord Oberon?" Roan asked.
"I’m worried about Lyall and others," I answered making him stare at me.
"Lyall and others? You mean your own top Assassin team which has people like Lyall and Mrs Jones? You must really be looking down on others."
I turned my gaze on Roan as he snorted and then chuckled shaking his head. He looked at the documents in his hands.
"If those people are in danger then that warzone is your place without a doubt. Because if they can’t handle that so-called Monster battalion then only you are the one who can." He said making me ponder upon his words.
Lyall was the man who in his first try defeated a rogue bear and also fought with the swift and smart rogue wolves. He was even more skilled than the Seraph Knights who were trained by Grand Duke Alarice.
Mrs Jones on other hand was a fearsome and ruthless fighter who never left any of her opponents alive, she was skilled in clean assassinations and there was no work that she had left unfinished.
Along with them there were apprentices who were Lyall’s colleagues and his friends who were almost as skilled as him.
"I guess, you’re right," I muttered.
"I am," Roan nodded with a self-satisfied smile, "Besides, I have got the information about the thing you asked about."
"Oh, great." I spoke and turned to him as he rose from his chair and walked up to me with the slip of paper.
"Here,"
"Hm? Are you sure it’s this?" I asked and he nodded.
"Yes,"
"Good then, take some time off for now, at night you’re going out with me."
"Eh? You want me to go with you?"
"You want me to take Remi to such place?"
Roan sighed and shook his head, "Fine, I’ll go."
"Good,"
"Besides, didn’t you say you will have lunch with Grand Duchess at Eldarf today?" He reminded and I looked at the large vintage clock in my study.
I was almost late, "Damn. I almost forgot, thanks for the reminder, Roan."
I stood up from my chair before I walked up to the window, "Want to come along?"
"No, I’ll finish today’s work first, I don’t want a backlog." He said as he turned on his heel and walked back to his desk.
"Besides, I don’t want to be carried by you."
I laughed at his final sentence before I unfurled my invisible wings and leapt out of the window.
I couldn’t use the teleportation device to go to Eldarf manor since the Magic barrier was meant to keep it safe and any kind of device or destructive magic spell was rendered useless near that place.
Besides those kids were extremely sensitive to mana so, to protect them and also to keep others away it was for the best.
I landed in front of the manor and walked inside before the kids could come but then again, it was a needless thing because all the kids were busy hanging out with their new trainer.
Grand Duchess Dahlia had taken a special liking to the kids who showed more potential than the Seraph Knights around whom she had grown.
"Master is here!"
"Welcome, Master!"
"Master, you’re late!"
The kids complained as it was almost lunch time and they were already serving the food on the dining table.
"I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I was busy with some work." I lied.
"I bet you forgot." I heard Lady Dahlia say as she entered the dining hall with a big bowl.
Something in that bowl smelled really nice so I inhaled deeply.
"I didn’t," I lied again, "What’s this? Smells good!"
"It’s my family’s special beef broth." She said as she placed the bowl down making me lean in close but she tugged at my collar pulling me back.
"It’s still hot." She chided and I chuckled.
"All right," I said as I moved towards my chair with my stomach already grumbling.
We ate together with the kids filling the silence with their excited chatter and telling me about their time with Lady Dahlia and how she was really skilled. She had beat every single one of these kids when it was her against three kids, but then again no one would last if all of them were against one.
"So what plans do you have after this?" I asked looking at the kids who in turn looked at Lady Dahlia who was sitting beside Sir Adler.
"Studies." She said.
"Studies?"
"Yes, they shouldn’t only learn about fighting, right?"
"But they know a great deal." Kent spoke up in a tone that said that he’d already repeated that countless times.
"Yes, they do. But they should also know about the society that they’re going to live in." Lady Dahlia argued.
"They know about it, and they know better than humans."
"You’re a human too!"
"Not the kind that are out there."
Lady Dahlia and Kent were suddenly arguing and I looked at Sir Adler who also jumped in and I sighed looking at the kids.
"Were they fighting like this before I came?" I asked Sylvia who sat the closest to me.
"Yes, Aunty Dahlia said that she will teach us etiquette and the way the noble world worked but Big Brother Kent said that we don’t need that." Sylvia explained making me look at the three who were suddenly in a heated argument.
I sighed and let my Dragon’s Presence whip around making everyone present in the room to flinch and turn silent.
"Arguing at the dining table isn’t good, right?" I spoke up fixing the three with a cold gaze.
"Ye-Yes, I’m sorry, Master." Kent spoke up while the two also muttered an apology.
The three then focused on their foods not daring to look up or utter a sound as we all are silently.
After the lunch was done, I walked up to the drawing room where I usually read stories for the kids. The kids and adults followed me into that room and stood in front of me while I took a seat on the comfy armchair. I looked at the three adults before I faced the kids who seemed rather anticipating.
"I agree with Lady Dahlia’s suggestion of letting the kids learn about the noble world." I spoke up making Kent frown.
"And I also understand why you’re against it, Kent."
"But, I’d like for the kids to make their own decision about it." I announced looking at the kids.
"I’ll warn you beforehand that learning etiquette is different from how you live, it’s basically teaching you a new way of living and behaving in the society. How to walk, how to talk, how to eat, how to behave, everything, do you understand?"
The kids nodded and I asked, "And you must also know that most of... your buyers from that place were nobles?"
It gave me a bitter aftertaste as I said that and even the kids looked a bit tensed as I mentioned their past.
"So, you will learn about those people and their lives... Do you want to? Or not?"
The kids were silent for a while and exchanged glances before some of them whispered amongst themselves. I could hear their talks clearly but I made no comments and waited till they came up to a decision.
After a few minutes of the kids discussing amongst themselves they stood in front of me with their heads held high.
"We want to learn about it." Sylvia announced their decision.
"Are you sure?" I asked for confirmation.
"Yes, Master."
"You’re not saying yes just because I said it’s important, right?" I asked.
"No, we decided it because we think it’s important for us." Cyrus clarified.
"Yes, we need to know who we’re up against and isn’t it your style to know all about your enemy before attacking?" Rowan announced with a smirk making me chuckle.
"All of them are not your enemies." I corrected.
"Enemies or not, we should know about the world around us, right? We have seen how the commoners around us live so, it’s time we know about the nobles as well." Viella said.
The kids shared the same opinion and I smiled before looking at the three adults.
"Then it’s decided," I announced, "The kids will learn etiquette and everything about noble world."
