The Kingmaker System
Chapter 167 - 166. Bigger Game (2)

Chapter 167: 166. Bigger Game (2)

A week had passed by after the incident at the towns and the news agencies had named it to be the "Night of Terror" because it was indeed quite terrifying to imagine sleeping in your beds peacefully and suddenly waking up to the beasts attacking your homes and towns.

I was doing my part from the sidelines while the nobles were doing their part in shifting the blame and putting pressure on the King to make a decision regarding this.

The investigation team was already ordered to look into it by the King but I knew what they were going to do so, I was just sitting back and waiting.

I had already delivered the evidence of his Aide Viscount Jordan being a spy of the Queen with some more fabricated evidence like dealings with the illegal herb traders and also about meeting with the dark tribes who were responsible for cursing people.

I didn’t know what these dark tribes people were but I had left this part with Rose so, she had gathered some sensational pieces of evidence and had it sent over to the King.

Viscount Jordan was still alive and at the King’s side so, I was assuming that the King was observing it for himself. He must want to know till what extent does his wife go.

Well, I could take care of that as well, since it was easy to sway the kind which was unstable. At this moment, the Queen was strong because she was showing the world that she was a benevolent person and an angel or mother figure with her own family’s support and the King’s power but if I removed both of them then it wouldn’t take long for her real face to come before the people.

Still, it was a bit of a long way so, I guess I could take it as the time comes by.

I was busy with my paper work when I heard a knock on the door making Roan to stand up and go look at who it was.

"Master, it’s Grand Duchess and her knight." He told me and I waved my hand asking him to let them in.

He opened the door and Grand Duchess Dahlia along with Sir Adler walked inside. She was dressed in an elegant teal green gown that embraced her strong physique quite well. Sir Adler was dressed in a casual outfit with the sword hanging from his side.

"You look quite beautiful, Your Grace." I smiled.

"Thank you,"

"Are you here to have some tea with me? Roan-" Roan moved even before I could tell him to but Lady Dahlia spoke up intercepting both of us.

"Weren’t you going to show me around your territory?"

"Eh? Was it today?" I wondered aloud making her narrow her eyes at me.

"I’m sorry, for making you wait, Your Grace. I was too busy working that’s why it slipped from my mind." I said as I stood up and grabbed my long coat from the stand nearby.

I wore it before I looked at Roan who seemed like he was a deflated balloon.

"Roan," I called.

"I know, I know, I’ll finish this up." He waved his hand as he walked towards his desk making me smile.

I walked ahead and grabbed the back of his collar.

"Come along," I said.

"Hah?"

"I don’t want you to have a stiff body by only being stuck with desk job. Come, let’s roam around a little with a beautiful lady." I spoke making him look at me.

"Thank you, Master!"

"Well, aren’t I a good employer?" I grinned making him snort.

"Well, so and so."

"Tsundere." I chuckled.

"What’s that?"

"Nothing, let’s go."

Lady Dahlia, Sir Adler, Roan and myself left my study and on my way ran into Kate who was holding a few envelopes in her hands.

Kate was still an ten year old child, so she was mostly doing the errand jobs and since she wanted to be dressed like her mother so, I allowed her to be dressed like a little maid. She looked more like her mother but her eyes were like Lyall.

"G-Good morning, Master!" She bowed.

"Good morning, Kate. Are those letters for me?" I asked pointing at the envelopes in her hands.

"Yes, Master."

I hummed lightly as I looked at the company that I was having. I sighed as I got down on my knee before the girl getting to her eye level.

"Can you put them in my study on my desk?" I asked with a smile.

"Yes, Master!" She beamed making me chuckle.

"Good girl." I patted her head making her cheeks go red.

"Ah, we’re going out for a while so, we won’t be having lunch here, tell the maids to prepare food only for you all, do you understand?"

"Yes, I’ll tell them, Master." She said making me smile.

"You’re really good at your work, Kate. Thank you." I said making her smile to widen.

"I-I’ll do my best, Master!"

I saw as Kate made her way towards my study before I turned to go my way.

"Let’s go."

"Can you at least turn your charm down while talking to little girls?" Roan said making me look at him.

"And how do I do that?" I asked with a small smirk.

Roan glared at me making me chuckle.

"Probably not smile." Lady Dahlia suggested joining in on our conversation.

"All right," I said putting on a stoic face.

"Is it better?" I asked in a nonchalant tone and faced a maid on our way who was grooming the bushes with the large scissors.

"Let’s check." I said as I walked up to the maid and saw a leaf on her head.

"Milie?" I called recognising the girl.

"He knows the names of the people who work here?" Sir Adler asked Roan.

"He knows the names of every single person who lives in his towns." Roan clarified.

"That’s commendable." I heard Lady Dahlia comment.

Though they stood at a distance, I was able to hear them clearly.

Milie turned and gasped looking at me, I kept a stoic face as I was told making her stare at me.

"Ye-Yes, Master? Is anything wrong?" She asked.

I looked at the bushes which were shaped quite perfectly and then at her as she stood stiffly in front of me. She flinched as I met her gaze and she lowered her head.

"I-If I did a-anything wrong then, please forgive me!" She squeaked.

"Nothing wrong," I spoke as I reached out and plucked the leaves that were caught up in her hair.

"You’ve got leaves in your hair," I said and blew the leaves away making her look at me.

"Yes?"

"And your hair is all tangled up as well." I said as I gently brushed the stray strands of her hair into place and tucked one of them behind her ear making her face grow red.

"Th-Thank you, Master!" She spoke avoiding my eyes with a shy smile.

I didn’t smile as I patted her head, "Good work."

I turned and looked at Roan who seemed like he had chewed on a lemon, Sir Adler had a blank face while Lady Dahlia smiled.

We got on a carriage with Roan sitting beside me while Lady Dahlia sat in front of us. Sir Adler took a seat beside the coachman so it was only us three.

The way to the Oasis town wasn’t quite long but it seemed like Last Dahlia wasn’t expecting what I had built in my domain.

She looked around the town with a curious gaze looking at me as everyone in the town greeted me when I passed by.

"Everyone in the town knows you." She prompted.

"Yes,"

"And you know all of them too?"

"More or less," I admitted.

It was thanks to the Dragon’s bloodline that my human senses as well as my memory was improved. Dragons had exceptionally sharp memory and they could remembered things from long, long time since they also lived for centuries watching over the generations of the other races pass by.

We reached near the Oasis Foundation buildings and I gave Lady Dahlia the tour of the inside.

She gazed with quite interest as I led her down to the hospital. It was a hospital influenced by the modern world design with the emergency exits and an elevator which worked with the help of the magic stones to save the critical patients.

The wards were also designed accordingly and currently, there were quite a good number of patients around who were rescued from the monster attacks.

We ran into Doc while being in the hospital and he came over to greet us as he saw me.

"Good day, Master." He spoke as he bowed to me.

"Good day, how is everything here?"

"Busy," Doc replied curtly, "The injured people are too many, though it’s good that their injuries aren’t that severe."

His eyes then drifted over to Lady Dahlia.

"It’s quite rare for you to bring over a noble lady." He prompted.

"This is Grand Duchess Dahlia from Frosthail and Sir Calix Adler, Vice Captain of Seraph Knights, I’m giving them a tour of this place." I said and he nodded, not showing any sort of respect to her.

Lady Dahlia seemed a bit perplexed and Sir Adler frowned while Roan cleared his throat.

"Oi, old man, you’re supposed to bow in the presence of high ranking nobles."

"I’m not obliged to, I only have one Master and I bow only to him," Doc said firmly and then looked at Lady Dahlia, "For me he’s above everyone else."

Sir Adler gave me a side glance and I sighed, I had spoiled everyone here but I guess I still couldn’t order Doc to bow before someone whom he didn’t respect.

Still, to change the subject I asked a question, "I suppose the severe ones might be from Lozar, right?"

"Not quite, the dead ones never reached here so, I’m dealing with all those who managed to survive. And also the ones from other towns are good to go, I’ve already discharged most of them, the rest will be out within a week or two." He reported.

"All the people from those towns are here?" Lady Dahlia gasped as she looked around.

"Yes, my town is ever growing so, I accept the people who have nowhere to go." I answered.

"To be precise, Master has a habit of picking up strays." Doc commented.

"Well, can’t deny that fact." Roan added.

"You’re one of those strays too." Doc shot at Roan making the younger man glare at the older one.

"Listen here, old man-"

"I don’t have time, boy. Move, I need to go check on the patients." Doc said waving his hand dismissively as he bowed once to me before he left.

"That old man is rude." Roan scowled making me pat his shoulder.

"It’s fine, let’s go ahead."

We moved ahead towards the next stop, the Oasis Foundation School. The classes were already started as the children from my town were enrolled. They were given free education, free dorm rooms and free food.

It was almost the lunch time when we entered the school gates that’s why the children who were out at once gathered around us.

"It’s Master!"

"Hurry, Master is here!"

"Waah! It’s Master Ocean!"

"Hurry! Hurry!"

Lady Dahlia, Sir Adler and Roan stepped back as I was engulfed by the little kids who excitedly hovered around me and talking all at once.

But even though I was surrounded by the shouting kids, I could hear the conversation that went on between Lady Dahlia and Roan.

"There he goes again surrounded by children." Roan sighed.

"Everyone here loves and respects him so much." Sir Adler observed.

"Well, love and respect are true but... People here see him as a God." Roan clarified.

Lady Dahlia chuckled, "I can see why they are not ready to bow to anyone else except for him."

"Not really, you haven’t seen anything yet." Roan said.

"This guy specializes in making people worship him, he has people who are ready to lay their lives for him and also take lives on his word." Roan explained.

"By the way, he can turn the people into his devotees, I can understand why they see him as a God."
