Chapter 711: Chapter 713: Brother-in-law, Develop Me into a Member of Dragon Soul

Bang!

During the time when Chen Di was arrogantly causing a ruckus to An Dehai while clinging to Lin Fei’s thighs,

Lin Fei slapped him squarely on the head.

“Brother-in-law, why did you hit me?”

Originally with a tone of arrogance, Chen Di was suddenly slapped by Lin Fei. Although the slap wasn’t hard and didn’t hurt much,

having his showy behavior interrupted, Chen Di was clearly not too pleased.

In fact, had it not been for knowing that Lin Fei was a member of Dragon Soul, Chen Di would have been outraged at being slapped by Lin Fei for no reason and might have long since pulled in his sister, the violent police officer Chen Qi, to start a verbose complaint against Lin Fei.

“An Dehai is my brother, and I will not allow you to raise your voice at him under the guise of my influence. Additionally, I’ve told you before that I have already retired from Dragon Soul. So, in the military, you should act as you would normally. Don’t try to leverage my name; you can’t. If you get into trouble in the military, I won’t be able to help you.”

With a stern slap, Lin Fei severely reprimanded Chen Di.

In reality, if it hadn’t been for Lin Fei realizing that Chen Di’s behavior towards An Dehai stemmed not from genuine arrogance or showing off, but rather from a playful mentality,

this action from Lin Fei wouldn’t have been just a simple slap on the head followed by a scolding.

After all, if Chen Di developed a habit of abusing Lin Fei’s identity as a former membership of Dragon Soul to act arrogantly in the military, not to mention the negative impact it would have on Lin Fei,

it would be an absolute disaster for Chen Di himself!

Anyone who becomes arrogant and overbearing, no matter who they rely on, is undoubtedly on the path to self-destruction.

Although, due to his relationship with the violent police officer, Chen Qi, Lin Fei wouldn’t mind helping Chen Di out of trouble if he really encountered any in the military or elsewhere,

because of that same relationship, Lin Fei, who naturally regarded his cheap brother-in-law Chen Di as family, wouldn’t stand by and watch Chen Di walk down the path of rampant tyranny in the military using his former Dragon Soul status.

Not even a hint of it was permissible!

This had nothing to do with whether Lin Fei had left Dragon Soul or not. Instead, Lin Fei was genuinely considering Chen Di’s future.

“Brother-in-law, how can you do this? You, you’ve disappointed me so much!” Lin Fei’s well-intentioned scolding did not earn Chen Di’s understanding.

On the contrary, Chen Di began to reproach Lin Fei with a face full of discontent.

“Brother-in-law, although I admit that I was blind previously and failed to recognize your noble identity as a member of Dragon Soul, after all, I am not an outsider. With my sister between us, how can you be so petty towards me? I even mentioned I wanted you to help me join Dragon Soul, and you shut me down with your words before I could even ask. Isn’t my apology enough?”

While verbally offering an apology, Chen Di was yet again preparing to cling to Lin Fei’s thighs.

“Hold up! I think you might have misunderstood me,” Lin Fei declared with a cold voice to Chen Di’s act of clinging to him. “I can assure you, without any intention of silencing you with words, that I retired from Dragon Soul three years ago. Believe it or not, it doesn’t matter. Either way, I am no longer part of the military.”

Annoyed, Lin Fei reiterated to Chen Di, who was shamelessly clinging on, that he had indeed left Dragon Soul.

But Lin Fei’s explanation clearly was in vain.

Chen Di didn’t show the slightest hint of belief; instead, he looked at Lin Fei with an innocent face, tinged with a hint of disdain, and said, “Brother-in-law, I never imagined you could be so petty! To avoid helping me get into Dragon Soul, you’d actually resort to lying about retiring from it. Brother-in-law, I despise you!”

“Whatever you want to think,” Lin Fei shrugged, clearly lacking any desire to explain himself further to Chen Di.

This attitude of his, when observed by Chen Di, only deepened his suspicion that Lin Fei was deliberately lying to avoid getting involved.

“Brother-in-law, you keep insisting you’ve already retired from Dragon Soul,” Chen Di, who had made up his mind that Lin Fei was deceiving him, expressed his dissatisfaction, “but before you ask me whether I believe you or not, why don’t you ask Captain An—does he believe you?”

Upon hearing Chen Di’s words, Lin Fei’s gaze reflexively shifted to An Dehai.

Seeing An Dehai’s face—although there was no shake of the head, there was a slight embarrassment—considering his understanding of An Dehai’s temperament, how could Lin Fei not realize that An Dehai, too, did not believe he had retired from Dragon Soul?

This led Lin Fei to feel somewhat helpless.

Of course, this was not to say that An Dehai didn’t trust Lin Fei. The problem was, the name Dragon Soul had an almost sacred magic in the hearts of the junior officers within the Mo Country’s local military.

Given the perspective of Chen Di and An Dehai’s identities, they couldn’t fathom any reason why Lin Fei would retire from Dragon Soul.

“See? I knew it. Captain An doesn’t believe it either,” Chen Di, who had read the disbelief on An Dehai’s face, couldn’t help but mockingly call out Lin Fei, “Brother-in-law, stop the act. There’s no one else around here. Your being from Dragon Soul is not something you need to state—believe me, I wouldn’t tell anyone else even if you killed me.”

“Brother-in-law, let me tell you the truth. I’ve always been a staunch die-hard fan of Dragon Soul! In the entire Azure Dragon Military District, I am the most steadfast supporter of Dragon Soul—no, I mean our Dragon Soul. So, brother-in-law, do you think you could see it in your heart, based on my firm support and belief, to recruit me as a member of our Dragon Soul?”

“Lieutenant Chen, don’t you think you’re getting ahead of yourself?” Lin Fei hadn’t even spoken before An Dehai, who had been irritated with Chen Di for quite some time, sarcastically retorted, “I’ve never heard that Dragon Soul was hiring a spokesperson.”

As the most special and mysterious force, and arguably the highest echelon of military power in Mo Country, Dragon Soul’s yearly recruitment of new members from local military districts across the country was always in single digits.

This was why An Dehai, who had intentions of asking Lin Fei to help coach and train his own men who had the potential to pass the Dragon Soul selection, could not be pleased with Chen Di as this unexpected “rival.”

Even though Chen Di didn’t seem at all capable of passing the Dragon Soul assessment standards,

due to the familial relationship between Chen Di and Lin Fei, An Dehai clearly still needed to be wary…
