The King of Urban Mercenaries -
Chapter 301 - 301 301
301: 301 301: 301 At Zhonghai’s Pudong District International Airport, Lin Fei and the strikingly cold-faced Ling Weiwei stood facing each other.
Being subtly trapped by the seductive Shen Peini in front of the beautiful Minister Ling had put Lin Fei in a spot where he felt compelled to make some explanations for himself, especially since they still had to go on a business trip to Ningzhou together.
If Minister Ling, because of her dissatisfaction, threw a tantrum and opted out, and the matter reached Mu Shanshan, then Lin Fei, the high-ranking official, would clearly be in deep trouble.
“Weiwei, I think you might have misunderstood me and—”
Lin Fei intended to offer some defense for himself, but it was clear Ling Weiwei had no patience to listen to his explanations.
He had barely begun speaking when Ling Weiwei coldly interrupted him.
“What now, Vice Minister Lin?
Are you trying to tell me that you just happened to run into Minister Shen on the way, so you decided to hitch a ride with her?!”
As a high-ranking executive of Mu Group and the absolute confidante of the icy CEO Mu Shanshan, Minister Ling was usually rather calm and insightful.
Even during high-stakes trade negotiations, Minister Ling always managed to stay cool and focused.
It was rare for her to partake in such irrational behavior as cutting someone off mid-sentence.
Yet now, she interrupted Lin Fei without reservation, her words full of indignation.
Anyone could see that her mood was definitely far from beautiful.
And indeed it was true.
She had carefully laid out her plans and finally got a chance to spend some time alone with Lin Fei, hoping this trip would fulfill her wishes.
Yet before their journey could even officially start, Shen Peini poured a bucket of cold water over it all.
That Minister Ling didn’t lash out on the spot was quite the feat of restraint.
“Anyway, things aren’t entirely what they seem to you, and I can’t explain it clearly in a moment.
However, I can assure you of one thing.
I take this business trip to Ningzhou just as seriously as you do.”
Unable to clarify his actions, since he truly had slept with that siren Shen Peini, Lin Fei nevertheless valued accompanying the beautiful Minister Ling to Ningzhou.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have dragged himself out of the bed he shared with Shen Peini and rushed to the airport early in the morning.
“Where’s your luggage?!”
A woman in love is a detective, a woman angered by love is Sherlock Holmes.
Just like Ling Weiwei at this moment, no matter how much Lin Fei tried to explain, she could almost instantly find evidence to refute.
“Luggage and such are just material possessions.
Going to Ningzhou, having you is enough.”
Lin Fei was accustomed to being independent and never paid much attention to his luggage.
If it hadn’t been for Shen Peini’s meddling, it wouldn’t have been an issue.
However, now, pointed out by Minister Ling with her cold voice, it suddenly became one.
Fortunately, Lin Fei was quick-witted and immediately came up with a response.
From the slowly retreating icy coldness in Ling Weiwei’s clear, autumn-water-like eyes, one could tell Minister Ling was quite satisfied with Lin Fei’s response.
“Mu Shanshan instructed that once we are there, you’re to follow my lead in everything.
If you have any issues with that, you can raise them now.
If not, we need to get ready to board.”
Despite being drenched with Shen Peini’s cold water bucket before even beginning the trip, Minister Ling, both professionally and personally, clearly had no intention of changing her itinerary because of Shen Peini’s interference.
Of course, if it weren’t for Lin Fei’s satisfactory answer, Minister Ling wouldn’t have minded leaving Lin Fei behind and traveling to Ningzhou alone.
“Let’s board the plane.”
Even without Shen Peini’s disruptive presence, Lin Fei wouldn’t have thought of arguing with Minister Ling over the leadership of the trip.
It wasn’t about power or the lack thereof.
Lin Fei was clueless about the work-related aspects.
Frankly, accompanying Minister Ling on this trip, he was nothing more than an unnecessary addition.
Of course, when it came to certain specific aspects of life, such as rolling in the sheets, it was clear that Lin Fei, the “great official,” had to take the lead.
…
On the flight from Zhonghai to Ningzhou, in the business class where Lin Fei and Ling Weiwei were sitting, Ling Weiwei finally calmed the indignation inside her heart and patiently started to explain the business trip details to Lin Fei.
“The branch in Ningzhou has been established for quite some time, and its operations used to be quite favorable, ranking high in profitability among the many subsidiaries of Mu Group.
However, for some reason, it suddenly started losing money these past two years.
Our purpose for this trip is to investigate—Lin Fei, are you even listening to me?!”
As she spoke, Ling Weiwei could no longer continue—not because she had run out of patience, but because Lin Fei was not cooperative at all; he simply wasn’t showing any intention of listening!
“Weiwei, you know that I’ve never been interested in this kind of work.
Once we get there, you can handle it yourself.”
Lin Fei, the great official, didn’t even take his work seriously under the watchful eye of his CEO wife, Mu Shanshan.
Now that he was going to Ningzhou where his wife seemed far away, he certainly intended to have a good time.
Work, for him, obviously had nothing to do with him.
Lin Fei’s nonchalant and lazy demeanor made Minister Ling quite furious.
“If we’re going on this business trip together and you’re going to leave all the work to me, what do we need you for?!”
“To sleep with you!”
“I—”
Seeing Lin Fei’s nonchalant attitude, not showing the slightest bit of embarrassment, Ling Weiwei felt so angry that she was almost breathless.
If not for the confined space in the airplane cabin that made it inconvenient to move, Ling Weiwei really wanted to kick him squarely in the head to give him a wake-up call.
It’s true that she, Minister Ling, had preemptively decided to join Lin Fei on this trip to Ningzhou, bypassing protocol, with the hope of sparking some ambition in him and adding to his work accomplishments.
And, admittedly, she did have a desire to share a more personal space with Lin Fei.
However, such matters are better left unspoken than announced so openly.
To speak so bluntly—how could Minister Ling handle this?!
This too was because there were barely any other passengers in the business class; if it weren’t for that, Minister Ling might have felt like jumping out of the plane.
Too direct!
Too shameless!
Can’t you be a little more subtle?
Although Minister Ling didn’t really oppose the idea of something happening between the two of them, speaking so straightforwardly took away all the atmosphere, not to mention, how could Minister Ling still have the face to go along with it…
