The King of Urban Mercenaries
Chapter 120 - 120 120 Assassination

120: Chapter 120 Assassination 120: Chapter 120 Assassination Simply put, Lin Fei stepped out of his office and began to inspect the work site arranged for him by Cao Zian.

Floors one through fifteen, as well as the parking area, were all within Lin Fei’s jurisdiction.

Putting theory into practice always trumps armchair strategizing.

Unaware until he saw for himself, Lin Fei was startled by the huge volume of work.

According to regulations, just at the entrance of the lobby on the first floor, there needed to be four security guards on duty.

In reality, though, it meant eight guards to ensure shifts could be covered.

From floors one to fifteen, on average, every two floors required one security guard.

The underground parking lot, at the very least, would need four guards to maintain shifts.

Roughly calculating, without twenty security guards, Lin Fei wouldn’t be able to carry out the security work.

The daytime was still manageable; after all, Moongaze Building was located in the bustling business district, making the security work relatively minor.

However, someone needed to be on duty during the night.

Lin Fei currently had no available staff under him, but fortunately, Cao Zian had a few security guards who could hold out for a few days.

However, that was all they could do—just a few days.

After all, even the strongest guards couldn’t possibly work night shifts back-to-back.

It wasn’t a matter of salary, but because human energy is ultimately limited.

In short, Lin Fei didn’t have much time to recruit people—only two or three days.

If he couldn’t find people within those days, he would have to take on the job himself.

Just thinking about the workload of twenty people weighing down on him alone, Lin Fei felt his scalp tingle.

“Could it really be that I need to make a trip to the job market?”

Moongaze Building, underground parking lot.

Lin Fei watched as Mu Shanshan’s BMW drove off and he sprinted back to the office to change out of his security uniform.

Dressed in civilian clothes, he returned to the underground parking lot and slipped into Shen Peini’s newly purchased red Audi sedan.

“From the time you left wearing your security uniform to the time you came back changed, you only took three minutes and twenty-five seconds.”

But soon, Lin Fei felt something was amiss.

Sitting in the passenger seat, Lin Fei had been there for a few minutes, Shen Peini’s car was already started, but she showed no signs of driving off, simply locking all the doors of the car.

“What’s the matter?

Curious why I didn’t drive off?” Seeing Lin Fei look at her in confusion, Shen Peini’s delicate lips curved into a meaningful smile, “Don’t worry, you’ll know the answer soon.”

Shen Peini’s style of talking to herself did not alleviate Lin Fei’s confusion but deepened his suspicions instead.

However, he clearly underestimated Shen Peini.

As if she hadn’t heard Lin Fei at all, Shen Peini focused her gaze outside the car until Ling Weiwei’s graceful figure appeared in the underground parking lot.

“President Ling, work’s over, if you’re free this weekend, let’s go shopping together.”

Shen Peini rolled down the window, greeted Ling Weiwei with a charming smile, and then, without waiting for Weiwei to respond, she started the car and left the Moongaze Building’s parking lot.

Compared to Shen Peini’s flirtatious and beaming face, Lin Fei’s face was covered in a visible frown, and he looked particularly unpleasant.

Lin Fei finally understood Shen Peini’s motive, but evidently, it was already too late.

Just a moment ago, the moment Shen Peini rolled down the window, Lin Fei vividly saw a murderous aura and a hint of intent to kill flash through Ling Weiwei’s usually lovely eyes.

Clearly, Lin Fei was tricked by Shen Peini again.

At that moment, Lin Fei even began to doubt whether Shen Peini’s initiative to invite him was all premeditated.

If he wasn’t absolutely certain that Shen Peini was sincere towards him, Lin Fei would suspect that she was the widow of one of his enemies, specifically coming to take revenge on him.

Damn it, this woman really knew how to set someone up!

Red Valley International Hotel, a red Audi sedan parked outside the hotel entrance.

Compared to her previous radiant smile, Shen Peini’s brows were now tinged with an unmistakable sorrow.

This touch of sadness added a layer of melancholy to her persona.

It wasn’t a trait Shen Peini should have.

She was mature and enchanting, and this kind of melancholic sadness did not belong to her.

Yet, this mood was indeed present on her.

The reason was clear.

When the red Audi left Moongaze Building, there were two people inside.

But upon arriving at Red Valley International Hotel, only she was left.

However, she also knew that all she could do was wait.

What she hoped for was that Lin Fei would appear before her, safe and sound, as soon as possible.

In Zhonghai’s West Suburb, Lin Fei walked down the road alone with a cigarette hanging from his lips, with several black sedans slowly following not far behind.

Although he had been back in Zhonghai for over half a year, Lin Fei’s sense of danger had not diminished due to the peaceful life of recent months.

Years in the army and the life-or-death experiences on foreign mercenary battlefields had ingrained Lin Fei’s perception of danger deep into his bones.

Shortly after Shen Peini drove the red Audi away from Moongaze Building, Lin Fei noticed cars following them, and even sensed a faint killing intent emanating from them.

If Lin Fei’s enemies abroad had wanted to carry out an assassination, they would have acted inside Moongaze Building.

For those infamous mercenaries or terrorist organization members, they would not care whether Moongaze Building was in a busy area or what the severe consequences of their actions might be.

Many of them were true warriors who had experienced the battlefield and life-and-death struggles, and they would not take Zhonghai’s police force into account.

However, the several black sedans that followed Lin Fei in the city kept their distance behind Shen Peini’s Audi.

Only when Lin Fei left the city area did they dare get closer to him.

And every time they encountered a surveillance camera, they would keep their distance.

Clearly, such tactics could not possibly belong to Lin Fei’s enemies from abroad.
