The Incubus System Chapter 781. Morbid Humor
Elenna's fear was clear. She was retreating, her steps faltering as if trying to put as much distance between us as possible.
"Are you going to kill me?" she asked.
I watched her carefully, my gaze unwavering.
I took a deliberate step forward, my movements slow and deliberate. There was a certain cadence to my approach.
The distance between us was closing.
"No," I replied, my voice calm and measured.
I couldn't help but let a wry smile play at the corner of my lips. "But don't mistake my restraint for an inability. If I wanted you gone, you would."
Her gaze remained fixed on me.
"What do you want?" she asked.
Her stance shifted slightly, as if she was preparing herself for whatever might come next.
"I'd like to make an offer," I repeated, my voice holding a note of intrigue.
I could practically hear the wheels turning in her mind, her thoughts racing as she tried to process the situation.
"An offer?" she echoed, a mixture of curiosity and skepticism tingling her words. Her gaze remained fixed on me.
I took a step closer. But I kept my gaze steady, my expression neutral.
"A cooperation," I stated plainly.
She took a cautious step back, her brow furrowing in contemplation.
"Cooperation for what?" she pressed.
“You… want to know everything about demons, right? I can tell you,” I gave her a nice offer.
"You want to tell me?" she repeated, the skepticism evident in her voice.
It was an understandable reaction, given the topic at hand. Demons and their ilk weren't exactly the stuff of casual conversation in most people's lives.
"Yes, Elenna. I'm offering to tell you everything you've ever wanted to know about demons, demon hunters, and the shadow realm that coexist with your reality," I affirmed, my tone casual but infused with an undercurrent of intrigue.
Her eyes narrowed slightly, her analytical reporter instincts kicking in. She assessed my proposition. The air between us held a palpable tension.
"For what price?" she finally countered.
I allowed my grin to broaden.
"Ah, Elenna, you cut right to the heart of the matter," I commented, my tone teasing.
I straightened up, my gaze locking onto hers. " Be my servant. You will find out," I stated.
"What if I don't want to?" she queried, her gaze locked onto mine.
"Ah, Elenna, you always know how to keep me entertained," I remarked, my tone light and tinged with an edge of amusement.
I allowed my laughter to carry a hint of mockery.
“You have been chasing me and disturbing me for a long time. Besides…” I gave her a death glare. “That network of yours… is very dangerous…”
A hiss of frustration escaped her lips. "You are evil…"
I couldn't help but laugh at the irony of her words.
"Well, Elenna, I can't say I'm surprised by that assessment. After all, demons are often categorized as 'evil,' aren't they?" I mused.
“Ah!” A sudden yelp tore through the air.
She stumbled backward. The edge of the building was perilously close.
A wry smile tugged at the corners of my lips.
I observed her.
"So, what's your answer, Elenna?" I inquired.
Elenna's voice wavered.
She fell silent, her gaze dropping downward to the bustling streets below.
The wind tousled her hair. We were perched at the 30th floor after all.
"Do I have any choice besides yes?" she questioned, her eyes flicking up to meet mine.
The corner of my lips curled into a half-smile.
"No," I responded simply.
A flicker of a thought crossed her eyes, a glint of something that bordered on morbid humor.
"Will you eat me if I agree?" she inquired.
I chuckled at her question.
"Well, that's an interesting twist on things," I mused, folding my arms across my chest.
“You will need me to survive so it was you who would eat me," I convinced her.
