The Immortal Cultivation World of Male Inferiority and Female Supremacy -
Chapter 427: Safety First
Chapter 427: Chapter 427: Safety First
Before coming here, Fang Zhou had already prepared the questions he wanted to ask.
Seeing him being so straightforward, Fang Zhou was not polite either, "Who are you? What is this place?"
The man thought for a moment before answering, "I... have forgotten my name, you can... call me Night Mouse, that’s the name I’ve given myself."
"Night Mouse?"
Fang Zhou was surprised, Would someone really give themselves such a name?
Night Mouse showed a self-deprecating smile, "I’m like a... mouse living in dark corners, only daring to come out at night, so... this name suits me quite well."
Fang Zhou asked curiously, "Why did you forget your own affairs?"
Night Mouse shook his head, looking solemn, "This place is called Black Soul Mountain, it absorbs the memories of all living things. Living here long enough, you gradually lose your past and become a walking corpse without memories."
Such a thing actually exists?
Fang Zhou frowned slightly, "Then what exactly is this place?"
Night Mouse gazed out at the gloomy sky, speaking softly, "This is... a world that has withered and is slowly dying."
As the conversation continued, Night Mouse’s speaking ability gradually recovered, becoming smoother and eventually no different from normal people.
He had lived in Black Soul Mountain for too long, having a large portion of his memory drained away, completely forgetting his identity, only remembering that he came from outside.
But Night Mouse knew quite a bit about the affairs of this world.
From Night Mouse’s mouth, Fang Zhou learned that this place is a world entirely different from the Cultivation World, with a slightly different race, developing a civilization different from the Cultivation World.
But eventually, this world was destroyed; the reason for its destruction is unknown. The last remaining relic of civilization is only Black Soul Mountain, and the humans of this world had long since died out.
This matched closely with Fang Zhou’s previous speculations, so he wasn’t too surprised. In fact, he found Night Mouse’s attitude odd, "You don’t seem surprised to see me?"
His attitude was too calm. Logically, having survived alone in this ghostly place for so long, seeing a fellow countryman unexpectedly should elicit excitement.
Not to mention that I carry the title of a macho leader and have 12 points in male reputation; why wouldn’t he react when he sees me? Could it be because he can’t see my face?
Night Mouse revealed a stiff smile, "Someone comes in here every once in a while. I’ve seen quite a few. You’re not the first, and certainly not the last."
"What happened to those people?"
"Some successfully left, while others died here."
Fang Zhou raised his eyebrows in surprise, "Then why didn’t you leave with the others?"
Night Mouse looked up towards the top of Black Soul Mountain, speaking softly, "I left something up there, and I won’t leave until I retrieve it."
Fang Zhou didn’t press Night Mouse about what he left behind; instead, he tried to determine whether what Night Mouse said was true or false.
He really wanted to initiate a soul conversation with Night Mouse, but he was afraid of exposing his own secrets, so he refrained.
After a moment of silence, Night Mouse regained his spirit and said to Fang Zhou, "What do you intend to do here? I might be able to help you. Once it’s done, leave as soon as possible, or you’ll end up like me, turning into a mouse."
Fang Zhou still wasn’t sure whether Night Mouse could be trusted, but after a moment of hesitation, he decided to reveal his objective to Night Mouse.
After all, this ghostly place is too large, and there aren’t many living beings. Fang Zhou feared that he couldn’t find the Black Broken Sword on his own in a month.
Regardless of whether Night Mouse could be trusted, any lead he provided would be a bonus, far better than Fang Zhou wandering like a headless fly.
"The sword that killed the Black Soul King?"
After hearing Fang Zhou’s words, Night Mouse fell into thought, "Could it be the Sword of Xipper, the Blazing Holy Sword that severed darkness and brought light and hope?"
Seeing Fang Zhou’s constipated expression, Night Mouse laughed silently, "Very direct and strange, isn’t it? That’s how naming works in this world."
"No, I can accept this setting," Fang Zhou said awkwardly, "But the sword I’m looking for is a black broken sword. It’s black. Could you be mistaken?"
Night Mouse shook his head, "There’s no mistake. To kill the Black Soul King, the description fits only that sword."
After pausing, he continued, "The Black Soul King was the ruler of Black Soul Mountain. The last ruler was killed by a treasure sword called the Blazing Holy Sword, which consequently broke and was tainted black."
"That must be it. Do you know where it is?"
"It should be inside the Dim Cathedral. I saw it there once several years ago."
Night Mouse stood up from the chair, walked to the bookshelf, and carefully pulled out a map, spreading it open on the table.
"This is a map I drew when I had nothing to do. You can take a look."
Fang Zhou walked over and looked down, revealing a "You’re kidding me" expression.
The map was filled with numerous chaotic lines, looking like a child’s doodle. No one would believe this thing was a map.
Night Mouse showed a stiff smile, "Flying over it isn’t feasible; those eyes in the sky would spot you, so it may have some inaccuracies, but overall, it’s correct."
He pointed to indicate to Fang Zhou, who took a while to figure out how to read this "map."
"We’re here, and the Dim Cathedral is there,"
Night Mouse pointed out two locations on the map, on the right and in the middle respectively, "If you take the shortcut, it’ll take half a day, but it’s a bit dangerous with many difficult monsters on the way. The longer winding road is safer, but it takes a whole day."
Fang Zhou said directly, "Take the longer path!"
Night Mouse looked at him in surprise, "I thought you would choose the shortcut."
Fang Zhou was also surprised, "But didn’t you say the shortcut was dangerous?"
Night Mouse: "... I said it’s a bit dangerous."
Fang Zhou decisively nodded, "Then we’ll take the longer path; safety first."
Night Mouse: (* ̄ー ̄)
You’re in this ghostly place talking to me about safety first?
Fang Zhou, on the other hand, felt his thinking was clear. Although Night Mouse said the shortcut was only a bit dangerous, fear often attracts what’s feared. If something unexpected happens midway, wasting more than just half a day is possible.
I’d rather take the longer, safer path; it’s both safe and worry-free.
In the end, Fang Zhou made the decision to take the safe winding path. However, it was too dangerous for Night Mouse to go out during the day, so they waited for nightfall to act.
Thus, Fang Zhou had to stay in this attic with Night Mouse until evening, fortunately having countless topics to discuss.
Fang Zhou asked many questions about this world’s situation, and Night Mouse could answer them all.
"By the way, what is this thing?"
Fang Zhou poured out the glow collected after killing the monster from his gourd.
