Chapter 1271: Chapter 1271: Guilty Conscience

Madam Qin’s gaze fixed directly on Su Yunjin.

Leaving Su Yunjin no escape.

A sense of alarm rose in Yunjin’s heart.

How come she felt like Madam Qin’s gaze revealed a knowledge of the answer yet was probing her? Ketchup is a modern creation, and the ketchup Su Yunjin made followed modern recipes.

Could it be...?

Su Yunjin looked at Madam Qin in surprise.

Upon considering such a possibility, Yunjin quickly dismissed it.

Impossible.

Could Madam Qin possibly be a time traveler too?

And given Yunjin’s uncertainty, she couldn’t possibly tell Madam Qin the truth. Otherwise, if people found out...

Wouldn’t the locals consider her a monster? After all, time travel was too fantastical, and Yunjin had never expected to wake up in an unnamed fictional era after falling asleep in modern times. The ancient mindset was so ignorant, and if they found out the truth, they’d surely think her a monster, leaving her defenseless and unable to clarify, to avoid unnecessary trouble.

Yunjin had no intention of revealing this.

Nor did she intend to tell Madam Qin the truth.

While Yunjin was pondering, Madam Qin was scrutinizing her in thought. Had Yunjin answered immediately, Madam Qin might not have thought much of it, but Yunjin hadn’t responded and wore a look of surprise, which by the end, made it evidently clear to Madam Qin that Yunjin was concealing something.

This aroused suspicion in Madam Qin as well, could it be that Su Yunjin, like her, was not from this time period? Just then, Su Yunjin began to speak with a smile.

"Madam Qin, I won’t hide it from you, I made the ketchup myself." The local people didn’t know how to make ketchup, so if she lied and said she bought it,

it certainly wouldn’t hold. If Madam Qin were to inquire further, Yunjin had no explanation. Without hiding anything, Yunjin simply owned up to making it herself.

Madam Qin didn’t expect Yunjin to admit it so directly, and her eyes revealed a flash of astonishment, "Madam Su, may I ask how you made it?"

In fact, what Madam Qin really wanted to ask was where the tomatoes came from. She had lived in this place for five or six years and had never seen tomatoes here.

The explanation for the tomatoes was a simple issue for Yunjin, and she responded readily.

"Madam Qin, to be frank, one day I saw a foreign child being bullied on the street, and I stepped in to help. In gratitude, the child’s parents gave me a bag of foreign seeds, which were tomato seeds. When I was idle, I used them to make ketchup."

After Yunjin explained, she still felt a bit guilty deep down. Tomatoes were easy to explain, but ketchup was a modern thing, and Madam Qin, being such a shrewd person, was clearly not so easily fooled. Yunjin feared that her story might give her away. Fortunately, after hearing her explanation, Madam Qin just stared at her for a while but didn’t continue to press for more information.

The topic passed just like that, and Yunjin finally breathed a sigh of relief. Madam Qin’s gaze fell on the noticeable bump of Yunjin’s belly and she smiled subtly.

"Madam Su, your child must be almost due, right?" With a belly the size of a watermelon at over five months, Yunjin’s bump was quite evident.

Speaking of the child,

Yunjin’s eyes softened unconsciously.

She placed her hand on her belly.

Before Yunjin could answer, she looked up to see a familiar handsome face appear before her.

"Master Chu?"
